Dont worry mate im in the same boat, and actually thought about using what you have.
Between Lego, R/C cars/ Real car and mountain bikes it can chew the funds but its worth it.
Gotta spend it on something right?

Bags 1-5 done, still 6-8 to go.
Base of cab just sitting there, not meant to be attached yet. Just put it there for some pics.
Here it is next to the Liebherr 9800 (one of the biggest kits i have)

Awesome ...I'd have a job deciding which of these two models , excavator or D11 would be the one I'd buy ..Problem solved ..Do both eventually ..How did you buy them , retail or online ?

On my model railway HO 1:87 scale I have a Liebherr 974 and a couple of Cat D 9 Hi Track's in HO scale for scenes on the layout later on .. The Liebherr does dwarf the dozers in real life too ..The 974 is a monster and the D9's aren't exactly small .

So funny story.
Firstly i purchased the Liebherr from Zavvi at a good discount, took about a month to get here.
I came across a second one via an online raffle on an FB page im apart of, cost me $20
I kept it unopened for ages as didnt know what to do with it.
Eventually sold it to an old work mate who bought it for his son.
Rest of my kits have been either been purchased from someone else either new or used or purchased online/instore.

Definitely the excavator in real scale would dwarf the D11T

Building that set is about 100 times more interesting than Singapore itself

After fininishing stage two of the defender, i've ballsed something up and the rear axle dif works fine when spinning one wheel only, but when you try to move both wheels forward or rearward at the same time, it locks solid. Any hints from those who've built it, before i go pulling it all apart :(

I think theres been a few folks that have had issues.
I think the only way to fix it to pull apart and rebuild. Id have a look on various lego groups as it was/is a common thing

I did the same building my Lamborghini. Turned out that I built the front differential reversed. I don’t have the defender, but I would think you may have done the same thing. Worst part is pulling technic apart. So much easier to put it together.

Yep, the Defender drive train locking up is very common problem on other forums. Carefully check the orientation of the diffs.

wasn't the dif, it was the little loop retainer piece behind it, i'd put it in the wrong way. I know this as i disassembled the whole thing lol

This Land Rover was the worst purchase i've ever made. After waiting for a replacement bag i never received, for 5 weeks, i finally got to the end of stage two. Start up stage three just now, and it's missing at least one, probably two or three more bags. ****ed off to the max.

oh it's coming along great, and the functionality is fantastic - i just can't believe how pathetic their quality control is, to me missing so many bags but still approved to fly out for sale.
