I think I'll pick a black Maserati Quattroporte. Maserati's seem to be quite rare and I like to be a little different.

I had a Quattroporte 6 cylinder for a weekend last year at some stage. Really not as nice as you'd expect it to be. Seats were hard as a rock. Infotainment was out of a Jeep... just a little deflating really.

You have to go back a few years to get the really good ones. The one I have driven is a 2012 GTS, so it has the NA Ferrari V8 and was made up to a standard not down to a price to meet a different market.

One of my gardening clients had one, I could here it start over the noise of a lawn mower on full revs and me with ear muffs on!

I was sad when he replaced it with the current model.

But in third place I'd go a Toyota Century with the 5.0L V12.
Nothing showy and built well.

They've just been approved for import too. Might start seeing a few on the road soon.

One thing that can be said, is that the market is rife with second hand EU weapons for pretty good coin.

Yes they are a risk, but do your research and you can get some good km's out of them.

Thats pretty true of almost any car, but very critical of EU cars. If I had the coin to get one, I would be getting checks done inside and out before purchase. I know its not a fail safe process but better to be completely forewarned prior to handing over the hard earned.

They require a pretty brutal shakedown in my experience when buying at the base of the value pyramid. Purchase is your “entry fee”. Then do the obvious chassis stuff immediately, a nice aspect of Eurobarges being great aftermarket support from Chinese to genuine OEM.

Replacement interior trim is best sourced from England because it’s never sun-damaged and will be to suit RHD. Once sorted you end up with a reliable hauler that requires the bonnet opening far less often than a B-series.

Its an interesting market, because once we hit BF and the old BTR started to not be supplied by OEM then our good old falcons became mechanically for more complex.

Not so much an issue for new car buyers, but a headache for the second hand market as your exactly right, a dead BOSS or ZF trans is just as expensive in a Falcon than it is in a BMW.

So we get high bill repairs without the build quality, sweet!

I’m constantly dismayed at the rust in post-2000 Australian built Fords. Pretty much every Euro here of that age and newer which goes into the crusher will be rust free. Better base materials and processes.

There’s something about the metallurgy of Japanese car steel which seems to make it less workable and then corrosion resistant post-repair. This is based on what I’ve seen with my eyes and also witnessed (impartially) in YT repairs. While they’re great buys in terms of exotica I feel the repairability is an offset.

Wife has been made permanent work from home, and other than travelling to work we very rarely need 2 cars. Agreement was made we would sell her car and go back to one car again (and I'd grab an ex-posty bike for runs to Woolies etc).

Good plan, but my execution of that plan sucked! Researching used prices for her car on Carsales/Carsguide/Gumtree, got bored looking at Hyundais...and yeah, this happened:

They did a great job remaking my FGX G6E front seats from black to cashmere

I passed up the opportunity to buy a 4 seater jap import BMW E32 750iL for this DF LTD. Was also considering an AU V8 Fairlane. Not too many of these old girls around in good condition anymore. This is ex New Zealand parliamentary vehicle. NZ Govt used LTDs from the early ‘70s right up to the BF around 2010.
This has cloth and only the 4.0. Would prefer leather and V8 but beggars can’t be choosers. Good to be back in a LWB Aussie Ford though.
Big gutless Toyota V8 petrol used nearly 23l/100km to tow this 500km north.
