Just my own personal opinion and experience. Whilst i don't think the 220 will be as such collectible it may be somewhat desirable. A few years back now I decided to find myself a bog stock completely original vnss in as good as condition I could. All my mates laughed initially, i mean a vnss, they were litterally everywhere once upon a time....insert every stereotype here. I sold that car 2 years ago for nearly 3 times what I paid for it at just shy of 15k. At times I wish i had kept it but it made way for my Blueprint AU3 220, which in everyway due to its age, is a far superior car. I have applied the same principle, low k's, as original as possible and as best condition as i can find and at 7k it was in my eye a steal.
Recently I had it signed by Craig Lowndes and even he looked twice at the condition whilst commenting about how much he really loved his TS3. You'd be harded pressed to prise it away from me at less than 10k now and i cant see why it will go any lower. Im the only one in my town that has one and it always gets a great comment. From the unloved ugly ducklings they were seen as, these cars have aged well. |

Has just clicked over 130k's and i bought it nearly 2 years ago with 128k on the clock. Not overly concerned with how many ks i put on it but rather how near new i can keep it looking. I sold my vn with 215k but i was in such clean original condition it didnt even factor in the sale.
I've started with a better car though this time, the paint is near flawless, leather interior is unmarked with only drivers seat showing any kind of wear. Only mods on car is TS50 wheels, lowered, shift kit, Alpine video screen head unit and exhaust. I've taken plastic engine cover off though, mine is in really good condition and i don't want it to deteriorate, very hard to replace these without coughing up a small fortune |

I HAVE 2002 XR8 TICKFORD BY HECTOR. Just turned 410000klms . motor has never been touched but for 1 set of plugs. radiator,alternator ,battery ,tyres wheel bearings .leather interior ,premium sound, sunroof.used as a commuter from Torquay to port melbourne daily. it"s going to the wreckers ion 3 weeks . don't think it will be a collectable. 1 owner. $500 to $100 for those that are quick.

It is probably good for the motor . leather trim. xr8 kit .skirts etc. new alternator .battery and new tyres. Its metallic Black. rear quarter has minor surface damage from a carpark hit and run . and the hood had small indent. paint is starting to fade,. it's an old reliable unit that has never let me down. What's it worth?

When you can buy a ba xr8 cheaper than a clean low kay au3 xr8 does this mean they are getting rarer more desirable and are on the way up. Just a thought ?

I've bought a late model FG MK2 XR6 and I'm considering parking up the XR8 in the garage.
Is this going to go up in value? I'm not looking for XY GT prices, just a toy that's not going to be worthless in a couple of years. Rego and Insurance works out about $1400 a year so costs aren't high to keep it on the road.

I have always had the "hate the /love the" comments with my AU but everyone who drives it is always genuinely suprised at the performance, handling & how tight the car is. What were they expecting I wonder.If in 20-30 years time, people still like buying & fixing old cars (which I can't see changing ever) just by weight of numbers, a nice clean genuine 220kw AU will be worth plenty. Real GT's from the 70's were first to go crazy. Then it was mock up GT's. Now it's any clean car from the 70's. 6 cylinder XY Falcon 500 in poor cond up to $10,000. So based on this model, I think AU's will be very desirable. The reason I love them so much is that they look unique. Newer model Fords & Holdens often look very similar but the AU XR shape not only looks very different to the other Falcons in the stable but it looks nothing like a commordore. The Bathurst AUXR8's were possibly the greatest looking Ford touring cars since the Falcon Coupes of the 70's. Long live the mighty Ford Falcon.

xr8cam has more than appropriately put it into perspective, good clean examples of AU 11 & 111 XR8's are getting very thin on the ground and that windsor note - can't beat that sound.
Will they be collectable - I think good examples are becoming desirable right now. Mines a keeper - in my view, the best, most reliable Falcon I've owned, and I've had a few. |

agree, especially high end AU's like Rebel, T-series, and AUIII in low km prestine condition. Manual I reckon will be worth more.
Another one that you dont see often is that multi coloured XR8 version. Cant think of colour atm |

Thanks lads. The next performance Ford's older than AU's are E series GT then X series ESP's. Three very different cars with equally different 2nd hand values (based on carsales current listings) It will be interesting what happens over the next 5 years. I am also keeping my current AU for good, just love it too much.

I Traded my au3 XR8 in for a BA xr 8 in 2006 it has 26000 ks and in mint condition ,trade in price was $28.000 so it cost me $15,000 change over.I must say i did love it but wanted the latest pretty sure it wouldnt be worth 28,000 today.I sold my BA XR8 to my brother 3 years ago for $10,000 it was red manual in perfect condition im pretty sure it would be worth a bit more now.currently have a 2014 S/C pursuit ute manual in octane which i am sure has only gone up in value and i am never selling that.

Absolutely! There are all sorts of people to whom all sorts of things are collectable.
In terms of cars there are plenty of makes and models with followings; no matter how unpopular they were in their time or how 'ugly' most people think them. |

Loved mine, was a 5 speed, exhaust dumped at the diff combined with that factory cam that had some mild grump to it sounded amazing. My mates at the time were on the vt/ls1 bandwagon, constantly modding there exhausts only to make them sound like tractors, I actually felt sorry for them haha. Long live the au
