People are influenced first at school the way i was. If you were a holden fan (VNSSGRPA ERA) you were the norm . i was one af very few that supported ford and was an outcast because of it.
My dad had an XE fairmont and it made a Vk in my opinion look absolutely stoneage in comparison interior wise but alas the was v8 in the VK and thats what made the school yard a harsh place to be. Flash forward to now and all the guys i went to school with all still drive holdens and i still drive fords. In order for them to change to ford, youd have to expect me to be willing to do the same and switch to holden...NO WAY! so in effect its just plain old brand loyalty and ford are starting to get it right because they are building emotion into there cars the way holdens have been for nearly two decades... look at the monaro... seriously its a two door VT... look at the way people perceive that two door como and youll see what i mean... its a monaro not a two door commo. BF is BY FAR the best engineered car to come out of australia BAR NONE this will gradually turn the tide in fords favour.. lets just hope VE isnt what its cracked up to be and orion kicks *** and the schoolyard will be a better place and well see the benefits in years to come. PS one last thing id like to add although holden sells more cars they make less per car than ford.i know what id rather be selling. pps fords small car sales suck *** and need to improve before well even be close to holden let alone toyota... having said that im looking for a new corolla..FOCUS is too pricey even though its a better engineered car.

And saying Ford and Holdens look alike shows the length of your experience with cars. About the last half an hour. Try mistaking an AC Cobra for a Kingswood.

Q: Why do young kids buy Holdens?
A: Because they match their Holden baseball caps and jackets of course. Holden's clothing marketing is much better than Ford's. |

Then what do you class them as then? a bloody Nissan?
Nothing wrong with them, the one I drive is my mum's its a 5 Speed and its a great little car although it lacks quite a bit of power compared to my VL but its still a nice car to drive. |

Fact is that the first Falcon to hit Australia was a piece of crap that virtually fell apart on our primitive roads as it was built for US freeways. That would've been enough to turn a whole generation off Ford which has filtered through to today.
No doubt the BF with a 6 speed is superior to Commodore as is evidenced by a comparison of large cars in the weekend paper that had the Sonata, 380 and BF - but no Commodore because it is now so behind in terms of technology and refinement. Even the Viva is selling in great numbers for christ sake, just like the Commodore. HAS TO BE A CULTURE THING, DOESN'T IT? |

When I ordered my packaged lease car some years ago I could'nt be guaranteed a BA over the (then) current AU - I just couldn't take the risk. Other aussies appeared to agree, I reckon the impact of the AU on sales is still present today!
Anyway ordered the VY S and had 3 reliable, happy years (lucky we didn't need the local dealer too often - hopeless!). Never thought I would have an OHV 6 in this millenium - but did the job and I enjoyed the experience. So then we had the need for a Station Wagon, something that looked alright, went OK, safe for the kids, with just that bit more clearance. Changed camps and went for the Territory RWD - I buy what suits my needs/tastes at the time. Having said that I can't see a KiaWoo Excelathingy in the garage in the near future ... So I've gone for Territory, the BA work car has gone well without reliability problems, fingers crossed, this one will too. Great car, the Terri, quiet and capable with lots of room. Quality - hmmmm - are Falcon and Territory both made at the same plant? Surely not the interior, must be from somewhere else, as the interior fit of the plastics is worse than the neighbours KiaWoo Excelathingy! |

My mum bought a 2000 VT Series II Olympic Edition and got an SS bodykit on it aswell. So far has been very reliable. Low Ks and still has the new car smell. You look after something then usually it stays in a good condition.
Before that we had a Holden Apollo and that was also a reliable car. |
