All good and well so long as neither you or your buyer do not incur closed transport (export/import) due to COVID-19.

I'd suggest that when the SHTF, unless you're selling essentials i.e. toilet paper, food or medicine then most people won't be interested in your product.

What's with Italy? Seems to have a much higher rate than the rest of Europe. I guess Chinese tourists love Italy?

If any of you fellas haven't already, I would recommend getting supplies for a couple of weeks before people potentially start panicking buying and clearing out the stores.
Even if you don't need the supplies you'll end up using it anyway over time.
Better safe then sorry I reckon.

Im personally not panicking yet. It still feels like a rouse for fear. But with that fear it induces panic and that will make people irrational to the point they 'buy out' the shop shelves to prepare for a decline in human rationale.

Australian's are definitely better off but we aren't immune to the aftermath of this once it blows over.

I have just read, there are a number of pharmaceutical companies that have a vested interest in a multibillion dollar vaccine. How ironic.

You're right people will get desperate if there's not enough food to go around, as you would expect.
Yeah I heard about that vaccine thing, will be interesting to see where it goes.
To me whats happening to the market is scarier then the virus, like you said were not immune.
I'm mostly sweating right now because I make my money in tourism to pay the bills.

Oh yeah then you guys will get hit pretty hard at first. Im in the building industry but it will have a flow on effect.

Those with cars on order I have read are going to have to wait months now.

Either way preparing now is not a bad idea. Hope it doesnt get worse (the fear) but I reckon it will.

So you're recommending panic buying, but call it "getting supplies", now before others start panic buying

Oh the irony

Have to place an online grocery order today, I bet Coles take the opportunity and send a lot of stuff with short use-by dates and a lot of brand substitution to use up their slow stock.

Here is an interesting question..

Has a government / country ever been taken to court and charged due to their actions resulting in deaths or financial hardship??

I tell you what... With early indications being that this spread due to early complacency and the continual denial and cover ups by the Chinese government it's something that I'm sure will be a hot topic when things settle down.

The whole world is losing billions every day.

China has deep pockets and a lot to answer for.

Could get interesting...

Check the policy wording carefully on your "Travel insurance" (if you took it out).

Many policies will not cover Coronavirus medical expenses, once it has officially been declared as a "Panademic" versus the current "Epidemic" status, as expected in the coming weeks.

Also, once "travel warnings" to a particular country have been formerly issued, such as with the Coronavirus, travel insurance may not cover any expenses claimed, whether medical or otherwise.

Some policies apparently do offer a type of 'change of mind / cancellation' clause where a person can cancel a trip for whatever reason they so choose.

They were discussing it on the radio a few days ago.

Can't see how that would work as it means a person could book a big trip then cancel and get a refund?

Probably has a very large excess and premium cost.

I'm sure there are a lot of people carefully reading the PDS of their policies right about now.

This is really sad....Listening to the radio on the way home just a while ago and they were saying two more cases in Australia . The other night on The Drum(ABC) one of our medico's was saying that fatality rate is one to two percent depending on which country you glean the stats from .

Already more taken than what the SARS virus got apparently although in a strange sort of way what they learned from that might help them fight this one it's been said .It's a similar type of illness they said . China is copping it . There's this and also there is a porcine virus that's wiping out vast numbers of pigs in China and nearby countries too..

The health and also economic aftermath of all this is pretty worrying to say the least . If the virus doesn't get you , the lack of work will also affect millions just like with the Hyundai shut down .

Quote:
How Chinese President Xi Jinping failed to manage the coronavirus outbreak

China’s reckless and deliberate downplaying of the coronavirus risks in order to save face has had disastrous consequences for the world.

The coronavirus marks the biggest challenge for Chinese President Xi Jinping since he took control of the country in 2012.

Tens of millions remain in quarantine, economic growth forecasts have been slashed, countries around the world have closed their borders to Chinese arrivals and people are furious with the authoritarian government.

The virus has now infected more than 83,000 people around the world, with 2800 deaths. While the vast majority of these cases are contained to China, it’s now spread to every continent besides Antarctica, prompting fears of a pandemic.

Mr Xi – and his obsession with ascending China to a leading global superpower – is largely to blame.

Chinese authorities have been blamed for allowing the virus to spread as far as it did, by hushing up the initial spread and downplaying its transmission.

Local authorities in Hubei province, the epicentre of the virus, had first hoped the virus would disappear on its own. Their kneejerk response was to cover up anything negative in the hopes that it wouldn’t get back to Mr Xi’s inner circle.

On December 31, the Wuhan government made its first official announcement that 27 people had fallen ill to a mysterious virus that appeared to stem from a seafood market.

But it denied human-to-human transmission – a crucial factor that differentiates more easily quashable illnesses from full-blown epidemics.

Over the following two weeks, infections rose, emergency wards filled up, people who had never stepped foot in the seafood market fell ill, and medical workers became infected.

It wasn’t until January 20, three weeks after Wuhan’s first announcement, that the human-to-human transmission was confirmed. Three days later, drawing from its SARS 2003 playbook, the Chinese Government locked down Wuhan and several other cities in Hubei.

Wuhan’s mayor Zhou Xianwang later took responsibility for the delay, but he effectively said his hands were tied by the central party’s rule.

“After I receive information, I can only release it when I’m authorised,” he said.

A national law dictates that local governments can only declare an epidemic after receiving approval from the Chinese Communist Party. In other words, Wuhan needed to get the OK from Beijing before telling the whole truth about the virus.

One might argue Mr Xi didn’t fully realise what was happening until it was too late.

But earlier this month, a transcript of a private speech the leader made later that he knew about the virus spreading much sooner than originally thought.

The Chinese leader issued orders on fighting the coronavirus on January 7, during a meeting of the country’s Politburo Standing Committee, almost two weeks before his first public comments on the deadly disease.

“I issued demands during a Politburo Standing Committee meeting on January 7 for work to contain the outbreak. On January 20, I gave special instructions about the work to prevent and control the outbreak and I have said we have to pay high attention to it,” Mr Xi said.

He also revealed he had personally ordered the lockdown of the virus epicentre.

“On January 22, in light of the epidemic’s rapid spread and the challenges of prevention and control, I made a clear request that Hubei province implement comprehensive and stringent controls over the outflow of people,” Mr Xi said.

It wasn’t until January 23 that Chinese authorities banned travel in and out of Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak. By this point, thousands of people had already travelled in and out of the city, around the mainland and overseas.

Since January, China has seen a rare outpouring of criticism over authorities’ initial attempts to suppress information about the disease.

China’s social media pages have been flooded with angry netizens criticising officials for failing to contain the initial outbreak in the locked-down city.

Much of the anger was because authorities initially suppressed information of the outbreak.

Of course, public dissidence is the last thing iron-fist-ruling Beijing wants to see. So why didn’t Mr Xi say anything sooner?

In an opinion piece for The Guardian, exiled Chinese author Ma Jian said the party “always places its own survival above the welfare of the people”.

The defining symbol of this was Dr Li Wenliang, the ophthalmologist who was reprimanded for warning his former medical classmates about the virus at its onset, before he died from the virus.

On January 30, while on his deathbed, Dr Li told Beijing-based journal Caixin: “A healthy society cannot have just one voice.”

“In that one sentence, he identified the root cause of China’s sickness,” writes Mr Ma. “Xi suppresses truth and information to create his utopian ‘harmonious’ society.

“But harmony can only emerge from a plurality of differing voices, not from the one-note monologue of a tyrant.”

The Government has destroyed many small businesses over the years, I am talking about Australian citizens bro, shafted by the ATO and not to mention shocking Government like Whitlam and him driving businesses to the wall that was an epidemic and then Keating played his hand in wanton destruction as well, that was a criminal act of straight out sabotage.

Boy where did this come from ? way out of left field and all in one enormously long sentence too!

Nice (non deliberate) subtle one word pun relating to the real topic I noticed in there though in the last line.

"Three weeks later that's precisely what has happened, because in order to game these high-frequency data, of which coal and electricity usage are the most important ones, we now learn that a "Wenzhou-based factory owner tells how district officials are telling him his closed factory (he has no workers) must turn on the machines and consume electricity or he’ll get “a visit”. Many countries have stopped flights arriving from China. But... the Chinese have been crossing the border to fly out from other countries instead. Spreading this virus even further.

There are 14 countries surrounding China and most of them are easily accessible by land. Apparently many Chinese have crossed the border as the borders are not closed to anyone exiting China.

The Chinese government needs to stop all residents from crossing the border if the coronavirus numbers are to decline worldwide.

Lets face it, China is surrounded by several countries where a $20-50 kickback goes a very long way.

Whats even worse, is that Chinese have lied / misled / bypassed border controls, some with symptoms apparently then bragged and boasted about it on social media....

I hope these people are gathered up and locked away for a very long time.

Such arrogance... thinking the world revolves around them.

north korean has none, or just isn,t reporting
turkey is bordered with iran (1500 cases , 66 deaths) and iraq (26 cases), just wait till it gets to those thousands of refuges that are on turkeys border that the armed un won,t let across.
if it gets to third world countries, well, it could be a real mess.
i don,t think the WHO can pospone the pandemic altert any longer, they were going to declare this last week.

It's very strange that the Australian government banned flights from Iran, but did not and has not banned flights from South Korea, which has a higher rate of infection??

A work colleague is from South Korea, and is travelling to South Korea in about 10 days for a family members 75th. Back to work a week later. Myself and others have already notified our superiors that we are not comfortable with this. We have asked that he have a month off once back in Australia before coming back to work. If not, we will be having a month off.
