There's a place called the Overlander in Alice Springs that does a 2kg steak. No prize for eating it, it's just on the menu. I asked a waitress if anyone ever ordered it and she looked at me like I had to heads and said "yeah, all the time".

Dunno if I could do it..

There are numerous outback steakhouses in american more your southern areas like texas ect

The commercials make it seem like it's an Australian chain though. The guy speaking on the commercial has an Aussie accent. But go to the restaurant and we've never met a server/waiter from Australia.

Definitely started in the States. I figure the Australian link is just a gimmick. With all the stellar American BBQ places, probably had to offer something different to draw in customers.

I recall Donald Trump was spruiking it years ago on The Apprentice. Did a search for restaurants here thinking it was an Australian chain and was US only at that time.

Outback sucks. Yeah the commercials show a Land Cruiser Troopy driving around the NT outback with a slightly exaggerated Aussie accent. My fav two American franchises are Famous Dave's and The Olive Garden.

I think the concept was to make americans think there eating like us Australians do
The menu is pretty similar but its not australian to me haha over there its americans/mexicans ect serving you and here its chinese/indians ect

My first Outback experience was in 2004 in DFW whhile I was working over there and I remember asking the manager how the hell is this australian the number plates and pictures were all australian nothing else

Add some photos, boomerangs, even some crocodile or is it alligator decor (can never get it right) and suddenly it's "supposed" to be Australian. It's spice mix is really potent to me. But all of the menu items and drink menu have Australian names though.

Now we're talking, Olive Garden! The soups I've had are delicious and the endless salad, I love it! Not to mention the breadsticks.....yum! Love the sampler desserts too!

Is Olive Garden in AU too?

No Olive Garden in AU
No Jack in the box or Carls Jnr to which are way better than Maccas in my opinion
Lucky I travel to USA regulary to visit family to get my fix haha

We do have only 1 Benehana Tepenyaki which is all over the states

If you skipped breakfast and lunch, could you eat dinner after the 1kg of ribs?
(1kg = 2.2 pds) Btw wet or dry rub ribs?

Sub sandwiches are perfect for the summer. I love Subway.

When I go to Subway my regular is the veggie or turkey. I have 1/2 of the 6 inch and that's perfect for me!

I've tried German style ribs but not American style ribs. I need to find a place in adelaide that does it that isn't crap.

They are cooked naked with a bit of salt and pepper and the extra flavor is in the sauce that's poured over the ribs after they are cooked. very smoky and a bit spicy. tastes awesome but from what I could tell not as juicy as American ribs.

Not sure if its tomato based. I can taste any tomato in it. but doesn't mean there isn't. the place I'm talking about is the hahndorf inn at hahndorf in s.a.

I'm actually a very big eater... I don't think I have met many that can beat me to be honest.

The 1kg of ribs were dripping in BBQ sauce, on top of that I had the side of salad and fries...

...... And the other half of the Mrs dinner as well as the usual bunch of drinks / beer.

And I have slowed down... in my teens and early 20's I ate heaps more!

KFC here in Sydney trialed an 'all you can eat' style menu about 10 years ago (I would have been 19-20??) Myself and a small team of mates were setting up a shop close to Bondi and we went ther for our 1/2hr lunch break...

My record was 17 pieces in 15 minutes..... we cleaned them out! I think that trial was very short lived ;)

Ever tried the Pink Pig on O'Connell St Nth Adelaide? More ribs than I can handle, thats saying something, spicy too.

Found a texas oven roasted brisket recipe. Uses a dry rub of chilli, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, mustard etc. then after an hour you add beef stock and water, cover and cook very low temp, steaming it at the same time I guess. It is for a 2kg brisket, but I will halve recipe and cooking times and get my butcher to do me a 1kg brisket. As I don't work, I have the time to spend 2-4hrs cooking it.

Not sure if it was an American restaurant but there's a great place called Ribs'n'Rumps in the Olympic Park in Sydney. It's around the corner from the Novatel where I stayed last year.

They have a meal challenge where you have to eat all on your plate.

The plate consists of fries, baked veggies and your choice of steak+ribs in beef, pork or lamb (I think). So just to be clear - that was 1kg of steak + 1kg of ribs = 2kg of meat.

I was 2 short ribs off finishing it all before I had to stop. I thought it was a good effort.

I had a continental buffet breakfast of fruit and pastries the next morning, lol.

Been to both in South East QLD (Marina Mirage at Southport and Fortitude Valley)

Awesome food however Gold Coast one is far better for atmosphere.

TLC has this show called "Pitmasters." It's a BBQ competition with $awards, brag rights, and unbelievable BBQs and style. One thing for sure, these guys/ladies are SERIOUS about their BBQ!

"All You Can Eat" KFC? Never heard of it so I did a search and found one in Boulder, Colorado. It was a special for $7.99. I can't imagine any KFC offering that for very long though, they'd go in the red for sure!

What'd your mates eat in 15 min if you had 17 pieces? Did you spend the last 15 min of your 1/2 hr lunch break rubbing your tummy wishing you could take an after lunch nap?

Watched the last season and the one before it which was a little different in the way the competition ran.

Myron Mixon - I don't think I've ever watched anyone as obnoxious on TV than that clown. Dude, it's only BBQ!

The all you can eat KFC was just a trial, I only ever saw it at the 1 restaurant (Bondi Junction to the Sydney siders) and I don't think it lasted more than a month, if that. I doub't the KFC is even there any more, haven't been in that neck of the woods for a few years now.

I think the 2nd place was 14 pieces... Nah... the other 15 minutes was the time it took to get there and back!

I love my fried chicken actually... and make a point of trying to have it in every country I travel in.. South Korea does it the best IMO.

Having said that... I haven't been to the States yet.... With my big appetite I'm a little worried actually lol.
