Back then it's 150kw RB30ET was GOD !! Now every 4cyl shopping trolley has 150kw + haha , must be getting old ? The Nissan 6 is held in high regard for quality & performance, it's still eons ahead of even the current GM V6 $hitters...

I think this article makes a good arguement for the R and S series Valiants...they might have been close copies of the American Dodges and Valiants at the time, but they amazed people with thier styling and especially power...it forced Ford and Holden to do something about the standards of thier cars at the time. Valiants had it all over the other two makers here in Oz for many years, in both six cylinder power outputs and size. Even as late as 1981 there was a radio advert for the last gasp CM Valiant...it had two guys talking and one said he was buying anAustralian built car with "a big six". His mate said "Oh, a Holden 3.3 liter?", and he replied "No mate...a big six", and his mate said "Oh, a Falcon with the 4.1 liter?", and he said "No mate...a real big six...the Chrysler Valiant with the 4.3 liter 205 horsepower big six hemi engine with Electronic Lean Burn for better economy...". It certainly got the message across...but the time wasn't right, as big cars were becoming less popular at the time. |

Territory would have to be my vote - built to fill a niche, and has done it extremely well - comes with a few minor issues, but then even X5s have been known to break down with under 2500km on the clock.....

I find it funny how people bang on about resale...even if it was leading the way its still going to be bad..its a new car, of course its going to depreciate quickly. Cars are just like any other technology these days, pretty much obsolete within 5 years.

From out of the boundary...
The FE Holden. First mass produced Australian designed car. After some teething troubles with the earlier 1956 built sedans, they powered on. They were the most attractive of GM's offerings in 1956. With the FC upgrade, they achieved 50.5% of the new car market in Australia. The station wagon variant held a tad over 83% of that particular market segment. The 50.5% share of the new car market was a clear leader over No2, Volkswagen, who sold 30% of new cars in that period.

I think once the Falcon and Commodore are gone, the XR6T will surely have to be the best large cap production, all Australian car ever.

Have to say the original VE. The 1967 one.
Seriously, the E49. A 6 banger that could keep upto a 351 over the quarter. Took until someone added a hair dryer from the factory to become the fastest production 6 in aust. Might not have won any major titles in Aust, but Mr Moffat (I think) couldn't catch them in NZ, with his XY. Sure they had a rust issue, but what car doesn't?
