the paint job does'nt do it any justice I spose.. It is way over the ci limit for the weight of the car,and has an 8 point rollcage fitted (all done without the consultation of an engineer) and thats just for starters... |

Hi All,
Great forum have been enjoying reading all the posts, and the knowledge of you all with Coupes. I have been hunting down a XA, B or C coupe for a while now, I have looked at a few, and my watch list from ebay is as long as a said wall in China. What I have noticed is that people are puting stupid pricing on their coupes. It is making me wonder if these people actually want to sell their cars or are they just out to drive me insane???? I like the blue six cylinder in this thread but $25K is at least $10K too high IMO. I am certain that I will find the right car for me in the near future, it is just very frustrating when you have the money ready and waiting and these people are just puting stupid prices on their cars??? I makes you not want to even go and check out their car. (buying a coupe atm is like trying to get swimming tix at the olympics, u gotta buy it from a scalper out of desperation). IMO if the car is not a GT or a GOSS or something very trick what right do they have to put a price tag over $35K on it. (ok maybe a little harsh but, I just want a coupe for the market price not $10K to $15k over it). Keep up with the posts on this forum they are great. Rock and Roll. |

Hail Gcg2503,
I know I have a task ahead of me, but the problem is all the coupes I go to see that are priced well over $30K are quite rusty, I am not particulary after a rust free coupe for no $$$$, I am happy to pay for it but I feel that the cars that I am looking at are just priced a little too heavy. Again, I will pay the $$$ just need to find a good example that is equal to the price tag. I enjoy the hunt it is fun, but at times frustrating. Warcore. :togo: |

THis comes up quite a bit with people looking for coupes and the fustrations associated with it. Yes people do ask some silly prices ..... as we were discussing just above ...... BUT some prices are very justified. The blue XC for sale at the moment, even though I dont know the car, I am adviced and looking at the pics, is well worth the asking price and wouldnt be surprised if it hasnt been sold already. Even if its a 6. You believe its worth is 15k ?????? I promise you it would be in my garage if it was but would have been beaten by some else. You may have money burning a hole in your pocket but you may need to be a bit more realistic on the size of your pocket ......... demand is outstripping supply, especially for good, rust free (rarer) coupes. They are not as hard to buy as you beleive as there are quite a few for sale at the moment, I think your estimation on there worth is out of wack on what the market indicates. A rust free, 6 fairly clean with a spattering of rust that doenst require a house mortgage to renovate ....... if there are any out there under 20k .......PLEASE LET ME KNOW FIRST Yes there are coupes out there for 10k ...... but ask anyone who has done a resto on a coupe and what you would be in for! | [/url] |

So you need to find a seller who will take what you're offering. 12 coupes on ebay at the moment with a price spread from $3200 to $93000. Several starting at $10K and probably no where near reserve. Good luck http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-XC-COUPE...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-X...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-xc-coupe...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-XC-Coupe...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-XA-GT-Co...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-FALCON-G...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-GS-Coupe...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XA-COUPE-FAIR...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/xb-gt-falcon-...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Cobra-Ford-XC...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XA-GT-Coupe_W...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PRO-STREET-XB...QQcmdZViewItem Last edited by THE4RD; 12-08-2008 at 08:57 PM. |

Your spot on the money regarding your take on the term "market price", I just watched the yellow coupe go off passed in for $22K. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=320283942551 I would happily pay the 22 for that but he has that car listed on trading post for $35. Which again IMO is too high. I guess I just need to keep looking and find that person who wants to sell for a price that I think their car is worth. I am not a tight with toys, just wanna get what I pay for. It will come, just gotta keep looking, which as I said is part of the fun. Warcore. |

Just have to keep your ear to the ground and dont hesitate if you see something that fits your budget and you believe it to be in reasonable condition for those $$$ As we have found out with our coupe, it is very very hard to know what is hidden under all that paint :togo:

I finally looked at that other hardtop. It turns out it a gs falcon with the gt grill and bonnet and dash. It was originally sandstone beige but is now is white, the letters on compliance read engine Y, trim S, trans B and paint 9. The interior is all intact with a few tears here and there but is reasonable. The body is not to bad it seems pretty straight with a small scrape in the passenger side quarter panel. Their is a few bubbles of rust coming up in the rear dog legs which looks like they have been bogged up before. But other then that the rest of the body seems to be in good order even the under the boot rubber was all right. At the moment the car starts and runs and the motor just purrs. It also has an alloy iron board with orginal feet. The motors out of a fairmont and is a 351 with an auto and a drum brake 9 inch. It comes with a boot full of spares I'm not sure whats in there but the quick dig I had in there I saw a few interesting goodies. The old bloke says he won't take less then 15k for it and to me that not a bad price for what its like. If you really wanted to you could wash it and put it back on the road with not much hassel. But if your fussy it would be a good start for a project. Let me know if anybody interested.

I know I have said in the past I'll never let her go. But I'm thinking more of setting myself up for the future. As I have another hardtop in the shed and to me it's about the shape not what it is (GT). I figure if I can get a good price for her then I'll let her go and try and set myself into a business. I won't even concider anything under $70k for it as I have been offered that sort of money in the past. But at the time I thought I would never sell her so wasn't interested in getting their details. I'll proberly put it up on e-bay and australian muscle car sales in the next few weeks. For those of you who don't know my car it has all matching numbers with a toploader and nine inch. It's a mcleod horn car with 48000 miles on the clock, it's in very good condition and has never under gone a restoration but was repainted about 20 years ago which was a simple rub back and spray. The interior is untouched and in good nick with only the stitching coming apart on the front passenger seat. There is no visable rust but like I said it has never been restored so the guards, doors and windows have never been removed from factory. The colour is yellow blaze with white interior. I have seen other GT's go for more dollars in worst condition then mine. Any advise with selling will be appreciated, if I can't get 70k for it then I won't sell it so please be honest and if I'm dreaming then I'll just keep her.

I'm looking for a genuine XY GT for under 50K, and surprise, surprise I can't find one. I guess the sellers are all dreamers too?? You will find that most people who own coupes couldn't give a toss whether it was a GT or not, it's the shape that is the unmistakable attraction. It is and always will be simple economics, supply vs demand. Everybody wants one, and only a few out there worth having. While that scenario exists prices will remain high. If you think they are too high, buy a sedan - sounds like that's your budget.

I do understand your frustration though. I spent 15 months looking for a good coupe in my price range. The issue was my price range wasn't in the 'good coupe' range. In frustration I bought the first one that I saw online that looked half decent ... and now I'm paying for my impatience. At least in Aus you have a much larger range to choose from than we do over here, so the chances are something will pop up. Keep looking |
