Given the loose spending of our money by third parties, may as well have the HWP use these at our expense into the future as well....they are big and at least I will know what to look out for in my rear vision mirror

Whereas a C63 could actually happen. At bulk pricing, it would come close to the current price for a UK one (approx $91k at current rates, ex-VAT). Being a govco purchase, I'm not sure how they would go around the LCT and other crap like that though.

The latest Qld Police Bulletin has an article on an evaluation of Hyundai Sonata sedans as a replacement for general duties sedans. They have placed three of them at stations in the south east corner to determine how they perform.
Obviously they wouldn't be used for highway patrol duties but they may go okay in the generals role - time will tell. Police work is hard on vehicles though. Several years ago I worked in a smaller sized station in the Far North and one of my areas of responsibility was looking after our three car fleet which was generally two sedans and a divisional van. No spanner work or anything, my role was just to ensure that fluids and tyre pressures etc were monitored and the service schedule was maintained. The sedans (BF's) did about 10000 kms per month and would completely chop out the inside edges of a set of front tyres in that time. Brake pads and rotors were also pretty much used up every second month. My tip is that purchase price will play a big part in what vehicles you'll see as police cars in the near future. Resale on whatever is selected won't be any worse that what the department was getting for the Commodore/Falcon sedans when they came off the road. Quite simply, no one wants them anymore. |

I'm not sure it matters what the rozzers are driving, after you've waited half an hour to get through it'll take about the same for them to arrive, if at all...
The current crop of Ford Ranger paddy wagons make me smile, we use them at work, they couldn't pull the skin off of custard let alone with a 'box' on the back, have a turning circle of a city block and chew front tyres every twenty thousand k's. I ask myself why they use unmarked WRX's if they're not meant to persue, entrapment maybe? seen that one before... It's the motorbikes people should be worried about, quiet, stealthy and fast, no getting away from them in a 'persuit' situation, alledgedly that is...

The mustang passed the brake test but the auto failed after 2 laps and went into limp mode.

Wel, they need to run the manual option then... Hmm wonder how many officers are qualified on manual. May also cause issues with simultaneous use of radio, computer, mobile phone, changing gears, unless they have the correct training of course.....

All NSW Police vehicles are automatic due to OH&S, so they can drive and work the radio etc.

Agreed, bikes are just a hazard on the roads full stop. I tend to think of them as speed bumps...

Wonder if they've considered using the Subaru Legacy 3.6R? Decent performance, size and handling abilities with AWD etc..

Yep, Kick 'er in the guts is right...I'd love to kick one of them in the guts..two things would happen...I'd go fast and have a broken toe too. I wonder what they're worried about..in about 20 years all the coppers will need is either a ray gun to immobilise a villian's car or something..Slightly off topic but do you realise that with all the hype on the Mustang , not that I'd knock one back or anything BUT AMERICANS LOVE OUR FALCONS.I'm blown away by how many comment on how desirable our Falcons are.. Right at the top of the tree as resto's and such are XB 's and XC's. Some great YT's of Aussie Falcons in the U.S....Cheers Rod

Not the brake test, only the auto problem. I see there is a track pack for these cars in the US. That is what they should have tried. I also read this car was not Ford supplied. they just bought one from a dealer, and also Ford is not interested in a Police special. What would have happened if they had of been happy with it? Would they have expected to jump the que of the 6000 orders or whatever the actual figure is. I for one am very happy they will not be Police vehicles or Taxis. They go like 40 bastards, for a 5.0 non supercharged engine. I was very impressed. With the new supercharger becoming available they will have over 500kw. Several youtube tests show the standard spec car we are getting do 0-100 in 4.4sec. (most tests 4.8) My brother has a Porsche and when he drove it, said this thing is quicker than my Porsche. Don't know about the auto thing. I see there are people saying their falcons do the same thing at Qld raceway. It will get sorted. My wifes car will not be here for a long time yet! |

Looks like the Hyundai Sonata will be the marked and unmarked sedan of choice for the Qld Police.
