Does anyone here recall Xw's ford falcon 1970 4x4? I used to see one near my last house in the 80's. I never knew if it was brought out of ford like that or was just drug induced pet project by a ford owner??

I cant find any info or any pics of it any where!?" Im pretty sure ive had discussions about it back in the 80's from memory, i was told only a few hundred were made?!!

Can someone confirm please!

Yeah one of the original 4WD's would be good to have, definitely a talking point or collectors item.
Maybe you saw a rebodied one, on the jeep (?) chassis?

The Predator was the 6 cylinder. Pretty sure it was the supercharged one and it ran on LPG. The XR8 Sequential was the one with the cool gearbox.

What a waste. A lot of talent, skill and passion over the years. While the like of Holden, Toyota, Hyundai and Mazda with none of these qualities got the sales over the decades. What did Ford do so wrong?

malazn mafia, you are right. maybe the ford was too good for the buying logic of the australian public. seriously, why would you buy a weak and powerless small import car, when you can buy a falcon on lpg. plenty of power, space, and economy too. the petrol ones arent too bad either.

at least with the falcons, you can rest your arm comfortably and hold the steering wheel comfortably too. with the imports lol i cant even rest my arm properely in a good space lol. and tell me about the fuel/boot release swtiches lol the mistubishi had them on the doors!!! lol

fords the best. and the most comfortable. end.

Not really a waste, Ford will still have people employed in design and engineering post 2016. Just because they aren't manufacturing here doesn't mean they aren't doing anything here.

But they havent got anymore prototypes and no upcoming models.. Maybe just here for customer support? And i guess the cars would be coming from the US? If so, which model will replace the mighty falcon?

Ford designs, engineers and test a variety of new models here, some that wont even be sold here. Australia is a expanding engineering hub of the world. There will still be a workforce of 1500 (around that) employed here in that division.

Holden have had a fair few concept cars over the years, such as the GTR-X, Hurricane, TT36 and Effigy etc...

Re-bodied maybe who knows? I suspect now perhaps it may have borrowed the under carriage of a Xw ute "a custom job" & put into a station wagon? Since ford hasn't released any release dates on it or any info about a station wagon 4x4 we can only speculate here.

I just spoke with dad about it & he confirmed what I recalled last night but didnt mention it in case I was wrong I mean it was like 30 years ago I saw this thing parked at murray street prahran, malebourne in early 80's to mid 80's if anyone lived around that area & recalls seeing it as one cant miss it as its so unique.

Since we had a Xw fairmont in our family which I still got it to this day & i can spot a Xw from a mile away. It was a station wagon with Xw lights "two break lights & amber in middle" as I recall. It had all that a Xw station wagon body would have even the station wagon rear winding window lever with a 4x4 under carriage, mate this thing was high up. It was a dark colour maybe a drark blue or a dark maroon cant recall. And it was heavily used, no damage to body but all the signs of heavy usage.

Was awesome looking & unique thing! Wonder if its still around & about?

With their mainstream models heavily borrowing from recycled german designs for decades, until recently, what they actually produced in their factories was far from inspiring.

Saw this tonight at just cars magazine. A two door BA XR8 falcon.

http://www.justauto.com.au/justcars/...?photonumber=2

Quote:
A year later, the next and so far last two-door Ford concept emerged from Melbourne-based coachworks, Dreamtech International P/L. Dreamtech were fortunate in that they had the new BA Falcon to work with, specifically an XR8. There’s no denying the look of the production BA is more attractive than the AU that preceded it, so it figures a two-door BA conversion would be more attractive than an AU – and Dreamtech proved it! On the creation they debuted at the 2003 Melbourne International Motor Show, the front and rear ends were barely touched, so it looks more ‘factory’ than previous two-door concepts. Retaining the roofline and side impact protection system meant no problem with ADRs either, so the Dreamtech creation was easier to register.

Sorry couldn't add the pic.

Nope, IMHO the Monaro still resembles a pregnant rice bubble crossed with a banana boat, just like its mother the 1997 VT Commodore, which is a mutated 1994 Opel Omega C or whatever the original design was. Sportswagon? No thanks, I'll take the Territory instead, any day of the week.
