I would certainly be waiting at least another 5 years before I get excited about EV..it will take that long min for infrastructure to be decent even if they started today.

As volumes increase, and battery production systems evolve, an EV will be cheaper than a comparable ICE vehicle. It’s going to happen. |

Tesla cars are only for people interested in performance vehicles though. You could pay the same for a HSV or FP6 and be embarrassed by a grandmother driving a Tesla.... Where is Ford's high performance EV is the question?

Mach-e GT does 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds.
Is that high performance enough?

When you go down the range, the premium AWD version gets pipped to the 100km/h mark by the Ecoboost Mustang which also goes around corners better. It'll be a cold day in hell when we hold up SUVs as 'performance vehicles' - what do all the cars in DFB's post above have in common aside from internal combustion engines. enough V6 diesel in front of them to stave off electrification for say, 5-10 years? I guess that’s something only the high ups in Ford know for sure, the rest are just guessing… |

I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Get rid of these weak and slow Turbo diesels. I'd be more than happy to own a EV Ute. Its why I have a Cybertruck on order. Who wouldn't like a car that goes 0-100 in 3 seconds and can tow (far enough for me).

Depends on how many kms you did and how long you'll keep the car. If you get the incentive, you'll pay the 2.5 cents per kms road tax in 2027 or when we hit 30% new car sales as EVs. If you don't take the incentives, you don't pay that ever. Also, if you did 20,000 kms vs driving your ICE car, you're probably $3k to $5k ahead over the last year so its not as bad or big a hit in the scheme of things (depending on how long you keep the car for).

Without significant funding of charging infrastructure, you’re really limited to where you can go, it’s all right for those who mostly charge at home each night but for anyone travelling and doing lots of kms everyday, a BEV is still heavily restricted on where it can go and still get good fast charging. That will change in time but expecting spread outside of early adopters willing to take a chance is not realistic. Let the infrastructure build up around costal cities first for maximum bang for bucks, then conquer rural areas.

Regional Queensland is dreadful, once you’re away from the coast, there’s virtually nothing and given the amount of people in mid western NSW, charge facilities are still light on the ground. |

NSW is light but people don't usually do 500 kms a day. Some do and of course EVs might not be. But a lot in regional don't do that distance as a round trip so they do have a use case. Lots of EVs in rural areas as they like the lack of need for servicing and no fuel requirements. EVs aren't all things for everyone. Just like pathetic diesel dual cabs are not for me but seems a lot of people like them (mostly for the tax benefits than the vehicle itself). Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk

Their main market is all those costal population areas where most of the charge locations are, win the hearts of commuters first and expand to other vehicles as the network grows. Lots of future sales there before ever fully replacing ICEs and Hybrids…. In respect to Diesel utes, What really annoys me about diesel is Bosch and how they lock down the advance of tech until they’re ready. After dieselgate and almost by magic, they reveal a new emissions strategy that lowers NOX to 1/10th of 2020 level. Unsurprisingly, the system can’t be retrofitted to existing diesels, talk about revealing hubris and self interest especially when the main idea is keeping exhaust temperature to at least 200C, normally hard in city running. They had to have known for decades that was needed and did nothing…… |

Those wondering about infrastucture, should remember when the ICE automobiles were appearing, there was a lack of fuel stations. Yes, plenty of hay stacks and farriers, but few bowsers and mechanics to fix these strange smoke blowing contraptions.

The government didn't have to install fuel bowsers though. Unfortunately the taxpayer is going to have to foot the bill for the infrastructure required to allow everyone to own an EV

Most charging stations are Privately funded in this country. Its a tiny percentage that are Govt funded and mostly in QLD.

People bought Falcons (outside of the Aussie angle) because they were big, could seat 5, cheap to run, decent performance and easy to fix. The Model 3 cabin is the same size as a Falcon cabin and does all of that and more (though for considerable initial outlay but you make that back in time with small fuel costs). And from the Sales figures, it looks like a lot of people in that Medium size between $60k - $90k bracket agree as the numbers speak for themselves. I prefer not to buy second hand cars. Never know what their history is and besides, they are probably better relegated to history. IMO. But there is never a right or wrong answer. Its an opinion here and not a logical decision. I love V8's... I also like EVs. I am fortunate to have the best V8 Manual on sale at the moment under $100k. I'm fortunate to have the same in the EV world.

All your opinion buddy, very one eyed/tracked.
Thank goodness many are different.
