a kickdown band adjustment may still be needed
not able to undo the locknut could mean anything -- even a new kickdown band replacement now in the hands of the automatic workshop I found this group of automatic shops good--- but there are others http://www.allstatestrans.com.au/locations.htm only other thing it may be if an EFI -- is the throttle position sensor at the throttle body a diagnostic run on the transmission control unit of your car should pick up any electronic management fault

I was not able to remove the locknut because you had to hold the adjuster, a 1/4 inch bolt while undoing the locknut that was probably set to higher than 34Nm (spec). Too hard under a set of car ramps and probably the wrong set of tools.
Yep- throttle position sensor is at the throttle body. Its on the way to the auto workshop now. |

4: My car's running just fine now dirty hands.many thanks for asking.
it's just so hard getting parts for a car from austrailia thats not meant for the U.K,espescially as i've been told by the austrailian ford owners club uk that it's the only one they know of IN this country...at least i have a sympathetic motor factors who helps me get service parts... |

it is in the right price bracket
unless you know a lot about turbos I wouldn 't buy one two sites do a lot of homework about the ford turbo (not cheap to fix ) http://www.mx6.com /forums http://z3.invisionfree.com/tx5/index.php? with the turbo if there is an internal fault you wont know till its too late head gasket problems and cooling cv joints and gearbox noises

Ok so yesterday my passenger front power window crapped itself nearly fully open..... its pouring rain now so how do I get the mongrel up ??? Ive cleaned and tested the switch and its not that. I then pulled the doortrim off and tried to power the motor directly..... nothing, it just ticks.
Surely there is a way to manually close the window until I get a chance to replace the motor????? P.S. Does anyone have a spare motor for sale?? BTW Its a 1985 AS TX5 Turbo..... with a fully sick gladwrap window. |

If you are lucky you may be able to get to the screws holding the motor onto the lifting frame (to undo )
If not you may have to drill holes in the door skin to reach the screws to release the motor...then you can push the window closed and try a stick to keep it up from inside the door skin see if there is more helpfull info-- part ---- mazda/ford wrecker need to see if the drive dogs are stripped or motor is burnt out

Well I did what you suggested and will work great for the short-term. Will have to source a motor now.

I have a 93 TX5, On that car I have had a similar problem with most of the symptoms you are mentioning, especially the revs and loosing power and stalling when you are idling. Generally the power and reliability was all over the place. A new Air Flow sensor has done the trick.
Too expensive for a new one so I got one from the wreckers for $100. It is like a new car. |

Hi there,
Not sure if you have covered this but a previous post wasn't quite the same trouble I am having. My '87 Telstar starts fine when it is cold. recently when my daughter was driving it the damn thing just stalled. It is possible to start it when it is warm but it won't idle. Once you put it in Drive, or reverse it stalls. It won't takr 'load' at all. The only way to get it home was to keep the revs up and 'ride' the brake. The local Ford place had it for 2 days and couldn't find a thing wrong. Our mechanic couldn't find anything after 2 days as well. Any ideas? |

try spark plugs first ... then coil ... start the car at night in the dark and see if the leads sparkle if they do replace them
then vaccume lines to the pots on the carby need to be checked you do that by geting a length of vaccume hose attaching that to the poys on the carby / sucking in the end of the vaccume pots hold the pressure with the tip of your tounge and if it doesnt hold the vaccume operated pots need replacing the telstars had problems with vapor lock when hot (mostly on stop start running from shop to shop for example ) I had to carry water and a rag--- soak the rag in water put it around the carby then wait till the fuel was cool eneough to pump up and start the car I did buy a longer length of fuel line and foam type insulation over the hose that helped sometimes

Thanks for that. I'll try each of those when time permits.
The car is easy to start at any time. Just won't take a load, or idle. Someone suggested it may have to do with some part of the exhaust system. Cheers |
