Maybe that's because they have nothing to prove......

Not really, i would say they are comfortable with who they are, and are not trying to please others by keeping up with the latest trends.

Now before you start ( Kath N Kym Voice ), i am not saying there is anything wrong with having the latest fashion, but there seems to be some people here who seem to be keeping up with trends to please others as they dont feel comfortable with who they are.

Exactly. Being 31 and dressing like a 24 year old cos that's the age of your friends and you want to impress doesn't give the impression you are comfortable with who you are as a person.

Living a middle class existence, striving to get into the upper middle to upper class isn't achieved by dressing in designer labels then associating with people who scream uneducated trailor trash. Keeping up with fashion trends and cloning yourself on others will only lead to a life of delusional grandure.

If you really want to get there, take a look at yourself, be happy with who you are, work out where you want to go and who you need to help you get there......associate yourself with people from a higher economic background, and forget about trying to fit in with the fashion crowd of the early 20's.

I can deal with just about anything, apart from those bloody pink shirts! They look bloody terrible!! My girlfriend would shoot me if she saw me wear one. Hell, I'd shoot myself if I went insane and decided to wear pink.

But I guess we all have different tastes...

No man, i mean NO man should ever describe a colour as "salmon"

There are only 3 colours. Black, white, and not black or white.

All these people claiming "none of my jeans cost under $100" or "i have very expensive clothes"

Obviously you baught the clothing based on cost, and the image of cost. If you really felt comfortable with them, why would you jump to your defence on here, yelling about how much your clothes cost?

If you want to buy expensive clothes go for it. Just remember people The man makes the suit. A stooge in a $1700 suit or the latest $300 leather shoes with matching designer logo top, still looks like a stooge, but now they look like a stooge in an expensive suit.

I don't care that people buy expensive clothes, or spend big $$ to feel good about themselves. But what makes me laugh is when people draw your attention to how much they paid for their clothes....really, get over it.

For me. Weekdays, Suitx9hrsx5days,
Weekends = whatever is comforatble,
Out at night, whatever the required dresscode is, and dont think because the code is smart or semi formal, that you have to conform to what everyone else wares..........NNNNNN SHEEP

Well I see it this way. As long as you are clean, presentable and not trying to big note yourself on a regular basis then your fine with me. To me going around showing your underwear and trying to be some street hood is just asking for trouble. Tight jeans, ok shall I remind a few people who are old enough on here to remember that tight jeans where in fashion in the eighties, so was the males wearing makeup, If i remember correctly it was called romantic. As for pink shirts, why do people automatically assume that a male is gay. Do you realise that its a personal choice about colours. ie, I like black, casper likes blues. I feel its a choice and that if thats what certain people would like to wear than so be it. As long as my friends and people who I associate with are clean and presentable and honest and upfront then I dont have a problem with what colour and style they are wearing.

You know what I don't get about today's fashion...dressing little girls like they are teenagers. I mean what is that all about? Why not dress them to look like little girls? We just had a baby daughter and my hubby is very much..if its not for sale then don't advertise but trying to find clothes for her that don't make her look like a mini tramp is difficult.

ZZ Top sang about it..

Sharp Dressed Man

Clean shirt, new shoes
And I don’t know where I am goin’ to.
Silk suit, black tie,
I don’t need a reason why.
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
Coz every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.

Gold watch, diamond ring,
I ain’t missin’ a single thing.
And cufflinks, stick pin,
When I step out I’m gonna do you in.
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
Coz every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.

Top coat, top hat,
I don’t worry coz my wallet’s fat.
Black shades, white gloves,
Lookin’ sharp and lookin’ for love.
They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
Coz every girl grazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.

Not really, no.
I'm only 17, but some people just dress so damn oddly, I'm not sure their heads are screwed on properly. There are the odd, odd odd subcultures, such as, well, emo. I'm not really a fan of their hairstyles, for a start, but even then I think I could probably do a better job given a can of hairspray and a hairdryer. Then again, plenty of people look with disdain at me, and my mohawk, but I find it so bloody funny that I don't really mind.
I also don't like pink polo shirts, collars up or down. Not because I see them as t3h gh3y, mind you. I mean, I know plenty of skirt wearing, girl loving, gothic nanybois. I've just never really liked pink as a colour on myself, it's too 'cute'. And I don't really like polo shirts either. I love t-shirts. I like shirts. But mixing the two is like ice cream and pizza. It melts into a disgusting sludge that I don't want to touch.
Then there's another fashion, which noone here has mentioned. Facial hair. Dear practically everyone with facial hair I see: Get rid of your moustache or goatee, you look a right prat. Especially you gangstaaaaz who cut classes to grow your dirt-staches. They look really really silly. And guys who just don't shave, do. You look unhygenic to be around.
Speaking of gangstaaaaz and homeboiz; In the middle of summer you DO look a bit funny wearing huge jackets. And huge pants. Hell, you look like michelin men.
Then there are the mall-goths that hang around outside the arcade in town. Man, these guys are great. I think I was more goth at the age of 14 than these guys are so far. For one thing, you're about 20m away from an army surplus store, where you can buy actual black trenchcoats. I have one from there. Navy raincoats just look really silly. Oh, and boots can be goth, but not if they're hiking boots. Those just look weird. And cut off your mullets. And put away your Rasmus and Linkin Park T-shirts. And most of the other bands you're wearing. They're really crap.
Then there's the goth-boy-with-makeup thing. No, it's not gay to wear makeup. Yes, I do think you look really stupid. But it's not the fact that you're wearing makeup. It's just that, well, when my sister was 12 she was more skilled and less liberal with makeup than you. TRY AGAIN.
And then there are skaters. Guys, I've skated too. You really don't wanna wear those big huge jeans. They come down behind your shoes and drag on the ground, or sit beneath your shoes on your skateboard, which is literally covered in rough grit sandpaper. You're gunna rip them, or catch them, and you generally look an idiot. And for god's sake, what is with the giant shoes. You're wearing bloody marshmallows on your feet. And they're like $300 a pair, but they fall apart quickly, so you patch them up with shoe goo (a rubber cement made for sticking together shoes, for all those this far in who don't know. Also, congrats for having this much patience.) Just buy cheaper shoes and let them fall apart, then get new ones. Marshmallows coated in rubber look even funnier. Oh, and your huge hats are really weird too. I mean you guys always seem to have tiny heads, but really huge hats. They flop around and stuff.
Supre (etc) Skanks: Good lord, why would you buy tops with slogans like that? Also, your skirts are way too short. I don't mind a girl showing off a little flesh, but that's just silly. Oh, and if you're not flat stomached, Do not wear shirts that stop below your beltline. I'm not. And I don't. Is it too hard to ask that from you?
People wearing shirts etc with prominent brand names (Nike, adidas, russell athletic etc...) Do you get a discount for advertising?
People wearing fakes of prominent brand names: You're even weirder.
'Punk Rockers': Don't come up to me and tell me how 'punk rock' I am. I might be more 'punk rock' than you, but I'm not actually very punk. I like capitalism. I like the system. I don't like you. Or those bands you listen to. Listen to Iggy and the Stooges, and you'll have a little more cred with me.
I also really dont like those Vans slip on shoes, with the chequerboard type stuff on the top. The canvas ones. Especially in pink and black.
Oh, and guys who do their hair; if it's reflective, you've put in FAR TOO MUCH wax. If you've got a fauxhawk (mohawk, without shaving the sides) grow the sperm producing equipment to shave the sides off, or don't do the thing. It's supposed to be counter-culture, and in your face. And anyway, you should like it enough to actually go the whole nine yards. I know girls who have had foot-and-a-half long bright blue mohawks with sides razored down to skin. And looked damn hot. So surely you can manage it.
And, well, I've posted a long enough rant about lots of stuff I hate about culture nowadays, so I might as well leave myself open to some.
Skateshoes. Yep, I criticised them. But I don't buy puffy ones.
Pants: Jeans. That cost more than $100. But it's $NZ, so that's like $20AU. Anyway, I like the cut.
Or, more often, denim shorts. I try not to get the ****tacular ones with premade holes, or preadded patches. Because they're ****tacular.
Shirts: Workshirts, or more often, nerdy, geeky t shirts. With the HL2 logo. Or Autobots logo. Or a calculator reading out 80085 (boobs rule).
I wear a leather jacket when it's cold. Leather n' Denim. But it's nicely cut. Or I wear my merino jumper. It makes me look smart when without it on I'm looking fully westie. As for hair, well, it's a 7 or 8 inch mohawk. Used to be about twice that. And, despite being punk r0x0rz etc etc, my hair is in pretty good condition. You have to treat it right to get it to do what you want. So if you call it 'gross' I'd agree with you on the point that it doesn't feel that nice up. On any other point, :thebirds: .
That said, I can scrub up alright. Well enough that the ZZ Top song in the above post gets stuck in my head, but I don't feel too conceited about it.
Added note: Cheap suits show. They just look a bit funny. A decent suit should look natural on you.
Oh, and lastly, anyone who wears a pink shirt, or any piece of clothing just to 'pick up', you are tools. Wear whatever you think is cool. What's the use of picking up a girl because she thinks you look good in clothes you don't even like?

Note: I probably described a trait of a few people on the forum above. If you don't care, you are a champion. If you do, don't PM me about it. Raise a complain with an admin if need be. But if you really care about it that much, I'd prescribe 500mg of 'chill'. Pill form. anyway, horses for courses.

edit: WTF? How did that go from a short reply to a large rant? that's the second time I've done that tonight. Oh well.

edit again: And, Jandals/Thongs. Not actually cool. Definitely not worth spending that much money on. My $10 pair from K mart have lasted me several years of summer trips to the beach/dairy when the road's too hot. And they look pretty much the damn same as a pair of nice expensive ones, aside from not having a brand on them (which, I might add, is generally under your feet, so you can't see it, and it rubs off anyway.)

i'll add my two cents. What is it with pink or as it is more becomingly know as salmon! on blokes...... i mean males. I cant get over it. We sit in a pub in our boardies and plain t-shirt and watch these pretty boys walk past like they own the 5h1t. And whats the story when you go to a clothing outlet these days to buy an xxl or xxxl t-shirt? i'm 6"3' and trying on tee-o's these days is upsetting as the shirt just clears my belly button and thats a xxl shirt too. What ever happened to being comfortable in what you wear. I see dudes that look like that could hardly pull 6 breaths of air together as their "shirts" are to small. There i'm done.

I wouldn't say I understand modern fashion, but I guess how people dress is affected by the social surrounding you've immersed yourself in. If your a bogan, and you have bogan friends then your not going to dress like a metro right? If you live in the city your not going to dress in a style thats fit for the country right?

And that pink shirt topic; whats wrong with a pink shirt? I wear pink shirts and it doesn't bother me one bit, I've been told by girls that pink actually suits me (seeing as I'm dark in complexion).

And who truly understands fashion? You wear what you want, and I'll wear what I want. I wear clothes and pick out colours that are suited for me. I just can't see myself in a singlet and shorts.
