As far as have seen this is the only oil which breaks the Alice in Wonderland oil labeling tradition.

By claiming to meet Ford specification while at the same time being suitable for vehicles with DPF, my nightmares might subside.

In the meantime I'll have to use the 30l stock of Nulon C3 long life diesel oil.
Penrite website says it's Ford M2C-934-B spec, SCA website says M2C-913-D.
I think there's a typo, but is 934-B better than 913-D?

It carries Renault RN0720 spec which says for latest Renault diesel engines equipped with a DPF, spec RN0700 has no mention of DPF.
If you check Caltex oil for RN0720 and RN0700 (Ford 913-C/D) the only difference is that RN0720 is for low SAPS and severe operating conditions. No mention of this for the RN0700 which is supposedly spec for our cars.

Seems as though the original spec did not account for a DPF or was found out to not be suitable for a DPF later on.
In conclusion that Penrite oil is the right spec for our cars and where a DPF is fitted.

Now I can sleep at night, haha.

You could ring Ford but they might be busy selling Rangers at the moment. Otherwise fork out the $150 to Standards Australia and be prepared to lose a few night's sleep deciphering the information. In general C follows B follows A, and things get better as you go.

My experience is the car is good but Ford wants me to be quiet, enjoy the ride and don't ask questions.

In other words, the car is fine, Ford is the problem, for me at least.

Ok,
What I think is funny/concerning,
Nulon has a 5-30W oil that says it's -913-D Ford compliant, however, in the caution section says, not to be used with DPF. The ash content is <1
Penrite has a 5-30W oil that says it's -913-D Ford compliant, has no restriction to DPF. The ash content is >1.

When looking at the specs on these oils, there is a sparrow fart of difference between them.
Both are great aussie company's, which one would you use and why?

have used nulon since buying a Mondeo with 120K kms (pretty much at 200K now). I use it because it's suitable, an Aussie Owned Co. and my Father used it when i was a kid, also because it's relatively cheap per 10L drum better on sale and..........goes a long way when you've got enough drums ahead.

I'm not interested in getting fancy with oils suitable/reasonably priced and Aussie owned is good enough.

913-D is not a low SAPS specification, but there is nothing to stop an oil manufacturer making it low SAPS.

Fuchs make a low SAPS 913-D oil for diesel engines, but it's not sold in Australia.

Our mc zetec tdci has run over 170000km on Nulon long life diesel (claimed to be DPF friendly). This is not a fuel conserving oil.

Oil consumption is too little to notice on the dipstick and fuel consumption is the same as always (5.9-6.4).

Oil additives to reduce engine wear which also meet Ford's fuel conserving claims may not be ideal for dpf.

That's also what they use in the Mondeo Ecoboost, I've been trying to find a place to get it. Magnatec Pro A5 seems hard to get. Have been short changing it every 7.5K kms.

$305.66 from the Campbellfield Bayford Parts. I get it cheaper so it's an ok price. They do have stock though. Surely there's a parts only shop up north somewhere?

So SCA have errors on their page...
10L container of C4 -> Ford M2C913-D
5L container of C4 -> Ford M2C934-B (Level)

Both have the same RN 720 (Renault) spec, so the 5L description is wrong.
Unless those Ford specs as the same? probably not...

Anyone tried this?

https://www.nulon.com.au/products/nu...sel-engine-oil

Seems the same as Nulon Full Synthetic 5W-30 Diesel Formula that I have been using but exclusive to Costco - Pros are 6L bottle and significantly cheaper than the other. Cons are you need to be a Costco member to buy.

Nargh no costco in my area, I'm still using the C3-12 Nulon spec but after I get down two more 10L drums I can finally get to the newer C4 (black label). Looks interesting though bundybear75, never seen it personally.

Yeah I went into Costco yesterday and meant to pick up a bottle (but forgot, sidetracked by Monkey Shoulder at $43 a bottle LOL)

From memory the 6L Nulon was $49 which makes it a little over $8 a litre - Even on a good sale the 10L bottles work out at over $10 a litre so a fair bit cheaper.

I'm doing around 1200km a week at the moment so getting through a fair bit of oil (7500km oil changes)

Visited the local Supercheap and Repco today as both have sales. It's confusing though trying to make sense of the different oils. I lost count of how many Enviro+ oils Penrite sell.

Can someone please explain how an oil can be both C2 and C3 as Penrite claim for Envro+ C3. By my logic, it must have an HTHS rating of exactly 3.5 as C2 is 2.9 - 3.5, and C3 is <= 3.5.

Or have I missed something?

Looks to me an oil meeting both C2 and C3
would mean HTHS between 2.9 and 3.5, from
your figures as <= means less than or equal to?

https://commercial.lubrizoladditives...f-engine-oils/

For anyone wondering about HTHS.

C3 and C4 are HTHS > 3.5, C1 and C2 are > 2.9. So an oil can meet both specs for HTHS if it meets the C3 requirement.

But then it won't have the fuel economy of the C2 oils, so why not just call it a C3 oil in the first place.

I use Nulon C3 long life diesel.
I get 6.4 l/100km (for the last 170,000km).

'Enviro' oils may use less fuel but they cost
more than they save?

My quintillionth of a kg of CO2?

There's only a limited range of Nulon oils available here and they are relatively expensive compared to what you pay in Australia. Penrite oils are normally the best value, but I can buy Fuchs cheaper so will stick with their Titan Pro Flex or C3.

The savings may not seem great, but apparently they do add up on a national level, especially with the move to thinner, heavy duty diesel oils. But it will probably take years and is likely to be sabotaged by people using thicker oils than they need.

I take your point.
I'm not a deliberate saboteur though,
just thrifty.

My last Ford went over 500000 km,
I call that environmentally sound.

Might be wrong of course.
I don't know.
Was lpg.

The big difference between Mondeo and Falcon
is the amount of time I spend with my head under the bonnet.
The big six was more relaxing though.
And did not require a new timing chain.

Interesting......

Funny how the recommended oil (as above) does not mention DPF suitability, yet other 5W-30 oils they list do.

I'm interested in the 20L bag in a box - has anyone checked prices for these?

It's not a mid or low SAPS oil. Even though it meets the Ford oil spec, I'd be reluctant to use it in a diesel with a DPF. Look for an oil that meets C2 or C3.

Yeah I agree if it doesn't specifically state Cx (Catalyst Compatible oils) then out of caution I avoid it. It's too easy to choose something else suitable.

I follow the sentiments here:
http://www.oilspecifications.org/acea.php

My currently stock levels are two 10L C3-12 drums and one of the newer rebranded black label 5W30 C4 10L drum. I'm interested in finding out how the C4 oil goes.

I've thought about using a C4 oil because for some reason, they are often the cheapest C sequence oils. But they are low SAPS, so may not provide the same anti-wear protection as a mid-SAPS C2 or C3 oil.

It is likely that I am just being mildly paranoid of course.

you are right on the money with a slight less anti-wear performance as said, interestingly it also has the same minimum HTHS Viscosity of 3.5 mPa*s as the C3 level. C2 having the lowest minimum HTHS Viscosity of 2.9 mPa*s so I reckon it's a safe bet to say it's still perfectly suitable (C4 that is).

Given it's a daily family vehicle and driven nicely I reckon it'll do 'as usual' which is just the ticket.
