yeah the Tundra, Sequoia and V8 4 Runner would be nice, with Nissan selling the Titan and Armada to replace the aging Patrol

my recommendation, race your car with the fuel light on, that will save you some xtra kg's over the back wheel

Anybody that thinks a stock auto pre-BA Falcon is faster to 100km/h then a stock 2L manual Escort is dreaming (~900kg, 3.5:1 or 3.7:1 diff and close enough to 100hp @ the flywheel), but of course, past 100km/h it's a different story, so of course by the end of the 1/4 mile the Escort would be passed, but it wouldn't happen until it's hit 5000rpm in third gear... It's funny how many people refuse to believe an Escort can hit 100km/h faster then a stock auto falcon, but won't line up their stock auto Falcon against an Escort - maybe they're worried that they'll be proven wrong... :hihi:

But the ohc mtrs of the EF on in stock form would near match them.Plus are nicer cars to drive. The X/Flows in stock form would have trouble outperforming a 2ltr manual Escort. I like Escorts but would not have one again, reason to rough & noisy. Just look at them at small Ford day nowdays, and admire the effort some with a passion for them do to them in resto & mods. buickman |

I was honest............ I have thrashed many a 4cyl in a race, and none of this dodgy will they, wont they type 'drag racing'. Yes, a lot of them will keep up till around 40kph, but after that the falc's hit their power/torque band and off they go. I mean, really no one would contest that most 4cyls get off the line better than a falcon. You must remember that a stockl EA, EB, ED etc, etc... Can hit up to 75kph in first (auto) You have to expect a little bit of a bog down low. But there is not anyone in here that canvince me that a laser will beat a 6cyl falcon (wellmaybe to 40kph) but never after that. As i said, I have raced against many a 4cyl driver and there is no real contest there. I'm sorry but you dont have an argument mate, a fact is a fact. Go ahead and organise a race with someone, then you will know if they are trying. And dont go looking for the most sh##boxy 3spd CFI EA out there to race either, I could propel myself faster with one of my own farts than one of those. Mike

sorry to drag this up again, but have you's dragged yet???
i know a bit about magna's cause i own one at the moment,it all depends if its manual or auto. i know a couple of ppl who ran 15.5@90mph in stock manual's. auto's are usually half a second slower.....so about a 16.0 for them

Many years ago (1988) I work at a place where one of the pool cars was an 1988 Laser. A mate of mine also had a pool car which was a VN Commode. Almost every afternoon we would meet at the same intersection in town and the "smart-***" drags would go from stoplight to stoplight. Over a shortish distance, the 'ol Laser would usually win .. HUGE bag of revs, drop the clutch and rev snot out of it. Helps when it's not your car ..
I'd be interested in having a drive of one of those Magna VRXs or the AWD Magnas. Do they use "measureably" less fuel than a Falcon/Commode? [ Might get the wife one!! ] |

These guys crack me up they drag a 800,000 km taxi with seized wheel bearings, more oil leaks than the EXON VALDEZ, blown head gasket and btr 4 speed that has been converted into a 2 speed powerglide from all the abuse its copped and they toss themselves over it.
Drag a healthy ED to AU auto and that smile will be wiped off your face quick smart. Non of those buz boxes can run a high 16 quarter even with a manual. Don't make me bring out the reviews because I do have a formidable collection. Last edited by t2te50; 25-08-2005 at 11:41 PM. |

reviews? don't make me laugh.......i speak from personal experience(actually going to the drags) remember the review about the XR6T running a 14.8.....that was a good one hey : after being to the drags on a number of occasions i now know stock XR6T's are good for 14flats or less... anyways i'm here to maybe find a new car(XR6T) not defend magna's py:

With a Late Entry
Have u dragged yet?? I definately would not discount the Magna. My parents have the widebody 3.0 v6 auto varient, i definately think its got quicker acceleration than my EL. However I have never compared them. It all depends on the actual vehicles (kms, condition, etc..) and the drivers. I have been in a 3.5 VRX, and that thing has some pull.... and copious wheel spin. I feel the EL has a poorly geared auto box.... i get hosed by my mates VS v6 just becuase my 1st gear revvs out to 80km/h if u floor it. WTF is up with the whole laser thing?? and why are u doing such speeds on a public road and posting it on the net?? All you are doing is getting people extremely ****ed off with such stories. Sure your laser might be a quick 4cyl, as most 4cyl are fairly zippy..... but most ppl on here are fairly experienced and drive highly modified vehicles which they have spent a lot of hard earned $$ on and for u to come on here and big note urself, having never had real Track experience. Maybe try Yahoo chat? |

Regularly drive Magna hire cars (that's what my company gives me so it's better than the bus or taxi)
Under-rated bit of kit the Magna. Not very heavy and surprisingly quite quick especially off the line. Reckon it'll be close. Pump the front tyres up to 40PSI, keep the rears low enough to keep traction (about 30). keep all electricals not needed turned off, Less than 1/4 tank of petrol (make sure it's premium or optimax, empty the boot of spare and usual , Load up the trans to about 1500RPM to launch and let it change when it wants too (don't hold it in gear - it may sound faster but it is running out of torque and HP at high revs). None of these help much but may just be enough. Good luck |

Mate he has no chance. And if you wanted to spend $200 dollars on the car
buy a K&N air fulter and a tickford cold air intake wish will cost you about $100 for the K&N fulter and $30 for the cold air intake. That is what l got on my EL falcon you can buy the intake pipe from the ford dealers. |

If its just for one drag, dont buy a high performance filter, just take the filter out, one drag wont hurt it :-)
