Wow, lots of haters in this thread. While I'm not much of a fan of the colour, maybe because I had an SS in Tiger Mica for a few years and got utterly bored with it and the Munro colour looks much the same, the Munro is one gorgeous Coupe and I'll go on record saying that I *love* the snorkels on the bonnet.
Good luck to your pop, just like the guy who posted a HO a few weeks ago that was stored in a barn and is getting top dollar today, I'm sure he was getting a bagging from his mates at the time. He looks like an absolute genius now! |

Some very retarded comments in here... comparing garages to someones taste in cars... geez...
It looks like a nice and tidy Monaro I personally love the coupe's regardless of their manufacturer. How many k's are on it and when do you expect to take it for a cruise? And yeah like someone said earlier, drain the fluids or use proper storage fluids, otherwise you will find most of your consumables and seals and rubbers are going to be ratshit once you do take it out from undercovers Not a car I would classify as collectable, but definately worth looking after |

I only asked for a photo of the odometer.... Thats not too much to ask ? If he is going to start a thread of DADDYS MONARO and say that his dad bought it just to store, and it has 32k on it, AND he obviously has a camera, why not prove it and post a pic of the odometer. But then again, , there is such a thing as photoshop....... And my comment of the garage, means that it looks like any other garage. If I had the money to simply put aside $70 000 worth of monaro, I would think the garage would be a bit "flasher" AC/DC |

I believe that as i stated in my last post, if you actually chose to read the posts you would have gathered that the owner is not storing the car where it is pictured. Now dont get me wrong here- I dont know the original poster from a bar of soap, nor, I presume do you so what makes you so intuitive? I'd love to know what makes you so sour?

All I can say is if my dad was in a position to be able to store a nice example of a Monaro and be willing to pass it down to me, I would be eternally grateful even if I didn't like it. But I love Monaros so I'm jealous : Then you have APS twin turbo goodness. Had one of them fly past me. Sound so horny! |

I'm 50 plus years (father of 378ute) and always read your forums with great interest. I bought my first paddock bomb when I was 13, and although my occupation has nothing to do with cars, I have always been involved with them. I built a custom EK panelvan that took an award in 1976 at the Vic. Hot Rod Show, I built and street drove a genuine 'Brock' Group A that was raced in sports sedans for a couple of years and then street driven by me for another 10, I've owned an XA GT, a worked XC 351/4 speed fairmont, I currently own 2 monaro's (VY and VZ) and have just finished helping my son finish building his over the top XD Ghia sedan (351/auto) which has been seen on this site. And no, I'm not rich, I don't own either Monaro, I don't own my house, I have an understanding wife and I work long hours to pay for my passion - which is cars, any type as long as it has a V8 under the bonnet.
I can honestly say it surprizes me, some of the things that are being said by 'some' of the members on this forum. A few of you should grow up and learn to appreciate a decent car for what it is, to the rest of the understanding members on this site - well done, and keep up the good work in maintaining what is an excellent site. Finally, enjoy your rides and enjoy life. |

MattyJ, you have to tell your dad about the Carcoon. I've just ordered 2 for cars I have stored, and they have some K's on them. Also, for the 1600 bucks the carcoon costs you can also see the car, so you can appreciate it and even show some of your mates when they come over. Really, it would be a shame for that car to start to rust, and dry air circulation is the only way to go. Much the same as Aircraft graveyards like Davis Monthan in the middle of the desert where there is No humidity, you should find a way to remove all moisture from the air. For me, Carcoon.

I would say its a waste of time and car to leave it sit for so long! It will appreciate in the short term proberbly but will come a time, if not cared for correctly, will deterierate rapidly! One thing is, leaving a car in a garage for extended periods of time with a car cover, watch the surface rust appear very quickly. Electrics and just about everything else will fail in a short space of time if not driven regularily! Its worth in years to come?? Invest the money and buy something 10 times more exciting in 20 years time!
........thats about all I can say with out upsetting most here. You cant make too much comment without getting barrelled unless you agree 110%. Its the owners buisness and its on a very public forum with lots of differeing opinions if chosen to be diplayed ...... live with all the comments ..... as long as they arent personal | [/url] |

Worth a try and its earning money already........
The funny thing is if you keep it and then register it yourself, lets say in 10 years, and you insure it, the insurance policy will pay new for old replacement for 12 or 24 or 26 months when the vehicle was FIRST registered, not when it was manufactured, if it becomes a total write off. I wonder what a similar model will be in 10 years time. PS this clause is prob not in those cheap *** insurance company's like RACV, AAMI, GIO as they are most likely when first registered and only 12 months I knew of 5 Chargers that were kept in a Temp Controlled Warehouse for 20 years, the owner took the two RT's to America via container and sold the others in Aus, they were all still in mint condiition.

Power to your dad MattyJ. If his got a bit of coin laying around, why not do something different like that. Better than in thirty years time saying with 20/20 hindsight- "Man i had the cash then, why didnt i do it!"
The storage/garage banter going on here just cracks me up! I dont remember reading anywhere that the car was going to be stored in the garage in the photos. MattyJ just supplied photos to prove the vehicles existance. After the photo was taken they could have moved it to a deep underground storage bunker in Woomera? who knows. What i do kknow is that he definitely wont be supplying an address so other people will be able to go appreciate it too. |

Anyway, looks nice! I've have gone the HSV option myself if it's purely going to be kept as a collectible, but that's just my opinion :p I wouldn't say no if it was handed down to me :p |

A guy at work did the same thing. When he heard the monaro was finishing, he bought one of the limited edition cars. For the same reason as your dad. But he does drive his, but only occassionally. He also bought a spare set of the rims too.

Anyway, I reckon the controlled environment is the way to go. What about removing the engine from the car and storing it the way engines are meant to be stored? Or would that destroy the originality of it? BTW, the biggest killer of electrics is generally humidity and other environment conditions but age isn't always the biggest killer. The ICs will probably last a very long time but the caps, if they're crappy cheap electrolytics that seemingly every manu. uses these days, then they won't.

doubt it will still have full warranty, there would be an exclusion to cover this.

i doubt this
most manufactures have a shelf life of their product, which means warranty will start after a certain time, even if the car is not registered. I wouldnt count on getting any warranty on it in 20 yrs time

OK, I can only assume your father purchased it due to the discount he received as a Holden dealer, as I can't see many other reasons to choose this particular car.
Yes its a limited edition Monaro, however its future value depends on someone believing it has some significance in the historical car world in 30 years time. And to be honest, with no real racing / manufacturing claims to fame, I'm not sure it will be a particular stand out. If the purchase was simply to believe you could purchase any unique car, hold it for 30 years and then make a profit, I would probably suggest a few cars that will appreciate more than the last model Monaro. Porsche GT3 RS Porsche 911 Turbo Targa Last ever Mitsubishi Evo IX or first Evo X If we are talking a choice of any cars then throw in Porsche 959 Mercedes Benz Gull Wing Ford GT40 A/C Shelby Cobra Mach 1 Mustang Shelby Mustang SS Camaro Yanko Camaro Hemi - take your pick etc etc etc Overall an interesting decision. Perhaps drop us a not in 2037 and let us know how it goes

IMO if its looked after correctly it'll be worth a lot in 20 or 30 years. probably not as much as land or other investments but thats not really what it was bought for anyway is it?
regardless, people are forgeting that something like that isn't worth what everyone believes (ie it doesn't really matter what everyone thinks as a whole), it only takes one cashed up 50 or 60yo guy who remembers when he was young and dreamed about it but never had the money to make an offer. EDIT: for that reason i thing even a camry treated the same would still be worth buying in 20 years time to whatever pathetic people go to bed at night dreaming about camrys if i bought a car to hang on to like that i wouldn't try to be too extreme with the limiting of the k's etc.. i'd start if up every week, take if for a 20 or 30k drive once every few months, and change the fuids, clean it up etc every year. cant remember from the photo but i hope it doesn't have a wing. anyone that buys a monaro and ruins the lines with the wing option ticked needs a swift kick right in the tadpole factory. (IMO) i love that colour though. |
