That was done when I had the other '66 XR Falc sitting on the garden for 2-3 days. and it was a wednesday, coz my bins are out. It must of been between 8am-5pm coz there are no cars in the front. Thats pretty cool. I dont have a street view thing though. Funny stuff

busted
A day after its launch, Google's Street View has already uncovered a lying neighbour, sprung a cheating spouse and snapped a man sleeping on the job, as armchair explorers pick apart the invasive new mapping tool. And while Google had vowed to instruct its camera-equipped cars not to drive down private roads and to blur faces and number plates, those promises were inadvertently broken. Various unblurred images of faces and number plates have been removed from Street View following complaints from users. Some private roads - including Tiki Road, Moonee Beach, The Mountain Way, Korora, and Beachfront Close, Sapphire Beach, all in Coffs Harbour - have also been removed from Street View, as have images taken inside Wesley College in Glen Waverley, Victoria. These are some of the many discoveries made by Street View users in the first day. More can be found in the photo gallery attached to the right. --------------------------------------------- MashUp Blog: What have you spotted on Street View --------------------------------------------- All Coffs Harbour private roads were marked with no trespassing signs but Google's driver decided to photograph them anyway, a Coffs Harbour real-estate photographer said. "This is very serious," Dan Svantesson, co-chairman of the Australian Privacy Foundation's internet subcommittee and a law professor at Bond University, said. "If Google have been careless in the selection of roads to photograph from, they are exposing themselves to a range of legal concerns ... I was assured that they had been very careful in avoiding such incidents in Australia." A US couple are suing Google for invasion of privacy because photos of their home, located on a private road, appeared on Street View. Google Australia spokesman Rob Shilkin said private roads and unblurred number plates and faces were removed from Street View as soon as they were brought to Google's attention via the reporting mechanism in "Street View Help". Matt, who lives in Glebe and did not want his surname published, said he had long suspected his neighbour was parking a green Pajero in front of his garage, denting and scratching it in the process with the car's massive bullbar. His neighbour always denied it but, using Street View, Matt caught him red-handed and referred the evidence to his building's body corporate. The image can be found in the attached photo gallery. "All the [garage] doors along the front of the block have sustained damage ... we're already pursuing getting the doors repaired under insurance," Matt said. "I don't think there's much point hitting him over the head with it - we might just keep it up our sleeve." Meanwhile, a user on the Australian broadband forum Whirlpool got a rude shock when surfing to Street View for the first time. "I parked my car in front of an ex's house when I was cheating on my gf at the time," the user, whose online alias is Caustic Soda, said. "My gf found out about this later on but I convinced her nothing was happening and i've never been going there. I've just found a pic [on Street View] of my ex's house with my car parked in front, if she sees this, she is going to KILL me!!" |

I dont see any real issue with it, anyone can drive to your house at any time, and you and you car are clearly visible to everyone anytime you go out. What's the big deal if it's on the web?
I can't see this lasting very long unfortunately, and I think people in the US are going to have a field day suing for whatever they can do get a quick buck. It will be a sad day when that starts happening in Australia.

To all the people complaining about privacy a photo of the front of your house is easily accessible now if you pay a fee.
A company called RP Data took photos of the front of everyones house years ago, there was a little uproar about it at the time, If you pay a fee you can get a list of how much everyone in your street paid for their houses and who owns it plus a picture of the property. As for Google I reckon its great I have wasted so many hours already trying to track down my car :

There was also a mob a few years back...up here in cairns at least. Called 'Pavement Management' or similar. Who went around and did exactly the same thing, drove down every road and took photos, front, both sides, rear, etc.
Nothing new really. Goes to show people will make a huge deal about something that doesn't warrant it. If you don't have anything to hide, why the hell should you care about privacy issues???

I had a look around the Laidley,QLD rural area and it looks like the poor bugger got a little lost. For some reason they covered a dead-end road out in the middle of no where that was just 2 wheel tracks in the grass but they didn't cover my road, which is mostly a sealed road that joins back to the main road.
I will try to post a screen shot tomorrow. |

I've got the picture that makes me think the driver got lost at Forest Hill in the Lockyer Valley, QLD
Just look at how they went down the end of that bush track(Whiteway Road), yet missed out on my road, Glen Cairn Road. Last edited by TC200six; 07-08-2008 at 04:11 PM. |
