I don't know why but that's one of the few videos I've seen that convey how much narrower Bathurst feels compared to watching it on TV.

Watched the video. Absolutely brilliant.

I was thinking, 'get out of the bloody way' to the other cars.

actually the GTHO did`nt get smashed ......... , if you take the time to look look at the race you`d see the Torana won by good luck not by being superior race car at all.

1970 Allan Moffat Ford Falcon XW GTHO

1971 Allan Moffat Ford Falcon XW GTHO

1972 Peter Brock Holden Torana LJ XU1

1973 Allan Moffat / Ian Geoghegan Ford Falcon XA GT

John Goss / Kevin Bartlett Ford Falcon XA GT

1975 Peter Brock / Brian Sampson Holden Torana L34

1976 Bob Morris / John Fitzpatrick Holden Torana L34

1977 Allan Moffat / Jacky Ickx Ford Falcon XC

A snap shot of that period of history. As you can clearly see The mighty XU1 clearly dominated everything also

Also that one win in bathurst that year by the Phase 3 included the first 7 places across the line and 1971 it also took out the touring Championship.

More false and misleading comments from the "Super Coach", its easy to make a statement when you feel uncompelled to back up your factless beliefs.

i guess in 1971 the xy gt ho was the fastest 4 door production car in the world because all the other cars were 2 door or not production cars. Ford did a good job with the scraps they were given by the yanks. i just wish they sent a few big blocks over

They tried big blocks but it hurt handling and lap times because they were too nose heavy...
Ford only used as much as they needed to beat the competition, either 2 door or 4 door, which it did convincingly.....

just read all this thread and was amazed at some of the stupid posts , the claim of fastest 4 door production car in the world in 1971
true
some on here must not be able to read, torana xu1 =2 door.
charger e49 =2 door and not made till later =wrong on two levels
Porche =2 door wrong, and some bright spark compared a Maybach. ahh wrong not made till a lot of years later.
Mustang=2 door=wrong.
thats just a few examples there is at least 10 more in this thread.
whats even funnier is people who say you need to take car to each country and race to compare.WTF did we not have official times from other countries available to compare the HO against.i thought we had records kept everywhere in the world to check against.or did that only happen in 1972 and later hahahaha

My car holds the record for World's Fastest Car driven by me on a Sunday down Pacific Motorway whilst drinking water and overtaking a volkswagen.

So I guess I can put as many stipulations as I like and so I am still a World Record Holder. You can't argue with it, its true!

The GTHO was/is one hell of a car as were the XU1, The E49 Charger (record held for many many years I must say, fact) and The Monaro.

Cheers,

Chris

But you never raced it, or took it outside of australia, so the record doesn't count!

Actually i think you'll find the Phase 3 was the fastest Australian made production vehicle till the Brock/HSV Commodores...
The Toranas and Chargers most certaily had a slower top speed.

E49 held the record for the fast accelerating Aussie car.
Also the fastest 6 till the EA XR6 came out IIRC.

An e49 smoked the ef xr6 in a drag

14.4 @ 103 mph only the xrts were faster, but that was in 1972

I do know for a fact that a well driven stock manual ralliart magna is quicker though.

But I do believe they are still the fastest n/a Aussie six in terms of the 1/4 mile trap speed. The ralliarts can run just on 100mph as can an auto stock STD rental aurion atx and an et of 14.5 with a 2.3-2.4 60ft (stock)

Tall Poppy syndrome rears its ugly head again.
The HO will always be Australia's Premier Ford Ever , the history cannot be re-created because we do not race like this anymore...

I can't believe the absolute nonsense replies in this thread.
I bet half of you "experts" were'nt even born in 1971!, and are just going on heresay.
I suppose your mates, uncle's, cousin's, brother-in-law has a PhaseIII/XU1/Charger that raced at Bathurst hidden away somewhere as well.

being a four door performance car based on a mass production car should be something to be proud of... especially a taxi pack base car at that...
nothing like the exotics...
if it were a 2 door it wouldnt have had a chance against some of the european stuff, but it was a FOUR DOOR... we should just be happy it was a ford in the first place, not a gm...

That was never an "official" claim.. It might have been the fastest accelerating 6cyl car.... or 0-60 but watch the tapes from Bathurst in 71 and 72, the HO's ACCELERATE past the XU1's and Chargers down Conrod like they're standing still.
The HO's had taller gearing which meant they didnt start hauling till 60mph where the others were already on the boil, but run out of puff earlier... They simply didnt have the sheer grunt of the H3 to run taller gearing.

im only 29 but i have driven an actual E49 (on way to cotm years back) and have also put over 5k into an already healthy 265 10 years ago.. i have only ridden in replica XW's though and that was many years ago

so you go drive one and tell me cos im not a hundred years old i have no idea

for the record the e49 was line ball with my auto VF hardtop at the time, and prices then werent spastic like they are now

@Pinkbits,well said. I'm still amazed at the number of ppl who just cant accept the facts of the 'Worlds Fastest 4 door production Saloon' in its day.

Just like many of you probably dont know that Jaguar was the worlds first production saloon to have four wheel disc brakes in the mid sixties. The MkII 3.8l I6,4spd man, lsd. If my memory is correct. Oh just for the record they were good for a top speed of about 130mph,again if my memory is correct.

Anyway Im getting a good chuckle out of some of the posts here.
