I have a sunroof 700 factory fitted to a BA XR6 MKII with a serial number that falls in the recall notice. I rang a ford dealer and i was told they will inspect the sunroof and if it needs replacing they will change it out . But if it doesn't need replacing it will not be changed.I thought the glass gets automatically changed if the serial number falls in the recall notice.

Just checked mine, S/N - 635xxxx. Looks like I need to pay a visit to Ford or the sunroof fitter (Sunroof Centre) :(

Got a letter from Ford, went to the dealer but they don't have parts, have to wait apparently.
Now, to wait for Ford or go elsewhere. Any good sunroof fitters in Adelaide

I find it strange with all the horror stories people say about the dealers. I called Brad Garlic yesterday and the service lady was well aware of the issue, the procedure to correct it and all the details around it. She booked me in this morning to do a measure of the sunroof. 40 minutes later, they got what they needed and I have to wait a week for them to get the new roof ordered in. Cant complain with that as they did everything as per the phone call.
Though what I'm curious about is that why they need to measure these things?! Surely Ford didnt have different model roofs going out in the BA series. Surely they were all 700's?!

Hi
I have been asked to confirm on this forum that owners of Fords with Tickford or FPV or Ford "factory" installed sunroofs MUST first contact their Ford dealer. The dealer has to log your recall visit or referral. The dealer is OBLIGATED to carry out the recall if your sunroof is operating normally. The only circumstance that we (the aftermarket installers) can get involved is if it is not a FPV, Tickford or Ford "factory" installed sunroof OR the dealer has referred you to us as your sunroof has a fault. If your sunroof is under warranty, the problem will be fixed at no charge to you or the dealer, if it is not, charges will apply and it is up to you to discuss this with you referring Ford Dealer. We are dissappointed to read all the posts about the lack of availability of parts while we have them here ready to go. Sometimes the recall legal requirements are not always going to make sense when it is described as a "safety recall" but we have been told to abide by them. To clear up some of the questions about why the dealer needs to measure the sunroof, the answer is that the LTD used a smaller sunroof than the Falcon, beyond that, if it is a Webasto / Hollandia, I don't know of any other reason. I am told by Webasto that all Ford dealers now either have stock or can obtain stock in a short time so you should now start to see some progress on your recall. Kind Regards, Paul - Prestige Sunroofs Last edited by PrestigeSunroof; 10-03-2011 at 05:42 PM. |

Well I had a discussion at the dealership on this issue and parts seemed to be an issue. So too was knowledge on what was required to be replaced. Seemed to suggest some sort of rail replacement.
You don't go to a doctor to get teeth pulled. There is no way a dealership is working on my sunroof, safety recall or not. |

Hi. I rang ford the monday after the recall notice was in the paper and after giving them my vin and the sunroof serial no they said they had no record of it, I was about to ask what next when she said that as it was fitted to a ford and the serial no was right that I should still contact my local ford dealer. Three weeks and still waiting, In the mean time I spoke to a lass at prestige about another roof and mentioned mine and they confirmed mine as a dealer fit done by them and as I seem to be having amnesia issues with my roof I may go back and fill out the online form and work through with prestige and tell ford thanks anyway. Cheers MD

Looks like there is a fair few of us going through this stuff at the moment. Bit annoyed to be honest, as I submitted the claim last week and was given the recommended sunroof dealers to contact. Spoke to Prestige and was advised of the changed policy (was told I would need to contact a Ford dealer as I have a factory fitted roof).
Spoke to Webasto to see if I could still get Prestige to look at it, but after confirmation with 'management' I was told I would still need to go through Ford. Perhaps most annoying is the fact that Ford still need to inspect the sunroof before they can proceed with the job (so they can get the correct parts I'm told). PITA when I already have to take time off work to get it replaced, and now need to make 2 trips. Just wanted to mention that Paul from Prestige sunroofs was as helpful as he could be, just wished I could get it repaired there, and at least the lady at Ford knew what I was on about. We shall see how we go... cheers, Julza

Hi Julza,
Thankyou for the kind words, given the situation at the moment, they are going to think I put you up to it! If you have a moment, could you give me a call at Prestige on (03) 9808 8966to discuss your communications. I will explain why when you call and again thanks for the comments. I am going to ring Ford in a minute to see what they say.
Then I think I will be ringing Paul.

You definitely have to do this now. The guys that got in early look as though they got really lucky. I spoke to Ford CRC and very nice gentlemen explained the situation. Dealerships can refer you. I tried ringing Prestige in Melbourne but essentially was told there was nothing they can do and to ring Webasto no joy there. I would have been prepared to put the car on the boat ahead of letting the dealership anywhere near it, but will now have to re assess.

i agree with a few of the other people in that this is a slightly frustrating experience.
i got my recall notice a few weeks ago, but have been busy so just got around to sorting it out yesterday. so i rang my local dealer, as i know its a factory fitted roof. i explained i needed it fixed under the recall, but that i also had another issue with the roof jamming open on occasion instead of using the auto close. as soon as i said that he referred me to prestige, he also cited that they had had parts on order for around 3-4 weeks but hadnt heard anything more so couldnt quote any turn around times. he said if i had no luck with prestige to call him back, but theyd more than likely refer me back to prestige anyways to have the jamming problem looked at. so i rang prestige and spoke to Paul, who straight away explained he wished he could help, but seeing as it was a factory fitted roof id have to follow the process and go through ford. i explained i had contacted ford who had put me in touch with him, so he suggested i speak directly with Webasto to sort this out. so i rang webasto, explained i needed the recall work done, and explained the occasional jamming issue. i explained i had contacted ford, but they referred me to Prestige to deal with both the recall work and inspect/repair the jamming problem. Webasto said it was fine to have the work done through prestige. i questioned this, explaining i had already tried to book it in there but had been advised it had to go through ford. the consultant said to go back to prestige and let them know to quote her name when booking the recall work. called prestige back, and booked in the work. that was yesterday afternoon. this morning i get a call from prestige explaining that webasto had contacted them and advised they were not to proceed with the scheduled work to my car, and i should contact webasto to see how to proceed from here. so i called webasto, after being transferred around to a couple of different people, they advised they had no history of declining the work to Prestige. they advised not to go back to ford and gave me the contact details of another "approved" sunroof installer in melbourne. The consultant also went on to explain ford dealers had very limited, if any stock at all and that the jamming issue i had sounded like the sunroof just needed to be reset, but that i was best to take it to an aftermarket professional (prestige et al) to have both issues sorted as ford didnt really know anything about the roofs. so i called the second after market installer, gave them the whole history above and now have the work booked in for next week. they advised that if it were just the recall work being done i could have come in today as its a 20-30 min job, but they wanted to allow more time to inspect the car because of the jamming issue i mentioned. hopefully this is the end of it and i can just get the car fixed next week and go back to enjoying driving it instead of wondering if the sunroof is going to dislodge and fly out as im cruising down the highway. im half expecting another call tomorrow citing that webasto have declined the claim again or something. im currently on leave from work, and ideally id like to get this sorted out by the end of next week. waiting around on Ford to get back to me in 3-4-whenever weeks isnt good enough. though in fairness to them, when i spoke to the dealer it wasn't that they didnt want to help, it just seemed more like they had no idea what was going on with the stock and didnt know when it would be arriving. one thing i can say, is everyone i have spoken to regarding this issue (Ford, Paul from Prestige and the various Webasto consultants) have been very friendly and tried to help as best as possible. ideally, i want to get the work done at prestige, as ive had a sunroof installed in a previous car of mine there a few years ago. the workmanship was excellent and i remember Paul from back then and he was very professional and generally excellent to deal with. when picking up my current car with the so called "factory fitted" roof, i noticed there was alot more wind noise than the "aftermarket" one prestige had fitted to my previous car and the overall operation of the "factory" roof was far more clunky/noisey. i dont really understand Webasto's enforcement of getting people to take their cars back to Ford when a) they admit that Ford dont know much about the roofs b) Ford dont seem to have any stock so cant deal with the situation in a timely manner and c) maybe im missing something, but i cant imagine Ford paying for this issue with the sunroofs, id assume its Webasto that will ultimately be footing the bill for parts/labour, so what difference does it make as to where i get the work carried out. i do alot of driving from melb to geelong and back. the recall letter i received states that "until the safety recall service is completed, the vehicle should be driven with caution and at a moderate speed". what does moderate speed mean? should i not be doing 100kph on the way down to geelong every day? either way, i dont have the patience to drive considerably slower than the limit and currently i dont have access to a second car. both prestige and the second aftermarket installer stated that they have the parts in stock and ready to go. i want the car fixed asap, so i dont see what the problem in taking it to them is. sorry for the long rant guys, its just frustrating being stuck in the middle of this and recieving conflicting information from different sources. in no way is this meant to be having a go at Ford, Webasto or Prestige. As mentioned before, each have been very friendly in trying to assist and from past experience Prestige have been fantastic to deal with. |

Hi Mash85,
Can I say that I am really sorry thet you have been through the wringer over a simple thing like changing you glass panel for saftey reasons. The latest information we were given was that if you had a Ford roof, you must go to Ford. I am dissapointed and confused that you were then reffered to another aftermarket installer. In light of this, I am only too happy to complete your recall and as a customer of Prestige Sunroofs, give the sunroof a service at no charge. Please give Madison, Colin or myself a call on 9808 8966 to arrange. Paul - Prestige Sunroofs |

It does sound like some of us that got in early have been pretty lucky to get things sorted out quickly through Webasto agents. I would have hated to have been stuffed around by Ford over this, however mash85 does bring up a few good points on why the sunroofs HAVE to be fixed at Ford dealers if it's a Webasto issue anyway.
Also, i believe if the sunroof is fully closed, that it is safe to do freeway speeds. |

Hi. The local ford dealer finally came up with the new roof and called me on friday so this morning I dropped off the wagon and 3 hours later picked it up and they even washed it (note to self-must take photo of clean car). Only problem is the roof has amnesia ( I set the memory points and its OK for a day or so and then forgets what I have done) so I am hoping Paul can give me some tips on what to look for. Cheers MD

Well my partially finished recall does not close evenly Front2Back, Left2Right.
I'm not allowed to open/close/tilt (basically anything) and the replacement process broke more components which no one wants to claim as their problem/responsibility etc. Oh, did I mention that Ford almost accuse you of having a damaged sunroof to start with and why do I expect it should last longer than 5-6 years. Answer: 18yr old Prelude has perfectly working S/R and so does the 2004 Honda Euro with all its plastic components except the Japs know which order they are supposed to be assembled i.e. it don't break...ever. |

Just thought I'd post up that I got my sunroof replaced today. No issues with anything. Opens and closes without hassle and there is no air whistle that was previously heard.
Took just under 4 hours for them to sort it out. I suggest people go see Brad Garlic Ford at Top Ryde (speak to Mitch) if they are getting theirs done and are around the area. All in all, very happy to have the new sunroof and the level of workmanship.

So it was a beautiful day yesterday and I open my sunroof in the full slideback position...Half way through opening the thing makes this loud banging sound.
Spoke to Webasto today and they have never heard of it and told me to bring it back if it happens again Has anyone heard of this before This is the first time this has happened since the glass was replaced under the recall

No mechanical issues from mine since the replacement..........but still p*&$$#@ off about the ill fitting new style felt seal !!!!!
Basically - there should be no obstruction to the glass in any position - so if there is any sort of grinding or banging sound when the roof is being moved - it may be the rails / sliders etc jamming somewhere ? Have you checked to see if there are any marks on the glass itself anywhere.

I got my recall notice and rang the customer relationship number to see if I could take my car to Custom sunroofs only to be told it had to go to an authorised dealer for repair. I then called the nearest one which is 60ks away. (distance didn't bother me as I was prepared to take it to Melbourne 160ks away]. The authorised dealer told me to take it to a local automotive repairer who they sublet work to. The sublet repairer has broken my sunroof rail and will not admit fault, hence me having to pay out $500 to repair it. My beef here is that I couldnt take it to the professionals to do the recall but the authorised dealer can send me to any di**head they choose. I feel ripped off and want someone to pay the repairs either the sublet repairer or ford.
