Android users here is your ultimate safety accessory if you get off the beaten track (ie not needed between home and the latte boutique)
Would even be useful for the well-equipped aviators. http://findmespot.net.au/SPOT-Connect.html

I was going to ask the same thing.
There's a few on ebay ... cheap enough to try out ... and then there's the scantool.com item which is about $150 Tempted to get a cheapy just to see how it goes.

mine is just one of these
ebay linky It doesnt read all the outputs unfortunately so I would recommend one of the more expensive units ($100 ish) but to get the basics and read the fault codes it does very well! |

For anyone trying to root their Desire HD, it's friggin painful. Have had to download nearly 400mb of crap I didn't have in the first place and only now am I getting somewhere. I may have found something that has been successful for some users without having to use CMD prompt to force some programs to work, but will not post it until I have installed ClockworkRecovery and ROM Manager.

However can the software actually clear codes? Or is that also related to the bluetooth transmitter? BTW would you mind listing what outputs your transmitter actually works correctly for?

I presume it would be down to the software that the adapters use. The scantool for example can be flashed with different firmware.
As for clearing codes, Torque states that it does. I havent had chance to test this yet as I have no codes to clear atm but it does read for them. I am just waiting for my bluetooth adapter to turn up so I can use my laptop with PCMSCAN to see if that reads any different to the Torque app using the cheapo reader. This would rule out if its the app or the reader. |

For anyone who is into cycling, running or any physical activity that involves speed and distance, try an app called 'My Tracks'. Very good app that keeps a record of your journey, elapsed time, elevation, time on the move among a heap of other features. Works in conjunction with Google Maps. I just got back from a 30km cycling ride and had it going and it gave me km by km run down of my average speed, distance and time spent in the saddle.
Check it out http://mytracks.appspot.com/

A quick update on the torque app.
I have now got my bluetooth adapter for my laptop and hooked up PCMSCAN to the ODB reader. I can confirm that Torque displays the exact same information that PCMSCAN does! One final test would be to get a more expensive OBD reader and see what they read as it states that quite a few PID's are unsupported. I would like to scan a few cars to see if it does pick up fault codes as I dont have any atm but I think the torque app would be a worthy addition to you android phone. |

I've got Torque on my Incredible S with a Ebay cheapy adapter. It reads the Bosch ECU on my Disco V8 and also clears any fault codes that I get. This app is well worth the money for basic shed diagnostics and a bit of fun with all of the information that it gives.

Anyone got a good app that can get rid of those unsightly Vodafone apps? I have Easy Uninstaller but it cannot find those apps.
EDIT - Also if I factory reset the phone, do I lose anything?

Just an update.
I upgraded to version 2.3.5 today with Sense 3.12 software. Nice little upgrade that brought my DHD inline with the Sensation series of phones. Things I have noticed. - New Unlock feature - 3D home page transition - New version of Market - Camera UI updated - App menu updated - Weather widget updated with new sounds - New HTC clocks - Task Manager (able to kill unwanted running apps) It's a 226mb upgrade so suggest download via WiFi.

Did Voda, HTC or Google notify you about the upgrade or did you go digging to find it.
I've heard nothing bout it

I did think it might be like my trusty old Nokia N95, updates were available ONLY when Voda let you have them

To remove stock apps you need to be rooted and use titanium backup.
Currently running Ice Cream Sandwich on my SGS. Teamhacksung's build12. SGS 2's next update will be to ICS but not just yet. Personally I never run stock roms. I find them slow and laggy. Compared my SGS to the galaxy nexus and the custom rom is slightly better speed wise, just not quite working fully yet. |

Updated build 12 to build 13 this week and I have to say... It's a complete rom for me now. Zero fc's, everything works except a few options in the camera.
Installed cpuspy and aLogcat to keep an eye on what the phone is doing and i am very happy with what teamhacksung have created! For those with an SGS, I would be checking this rom out! A few caps.. Build details Home screen App/widget drawer Dialer Lock screen And samsung said it couldn't be done... Ppffft! Last edited by creative; 13-01-2012 at 12:27 AM. |

anyone else having problems with android after the last system update?
i have a HTC Desire HD and after the update a few weeks ago the phone has needed a "force close" on the app.phone. yep that's correct, the phone crashes when trying to receive a phone call... only done it a few times but it is annoying.

Which browser is everyone using? Stock or app browser?
Had a task killer installed for yonks on my Defy, uninstalled a fortnight ago and found no noticeable difference in battery usage at all. Anyone else notice this? Cheers Daz.

Does any play the 'words with friends' app? It's like scrabble.... very addictive, but it chews battery power.
