The thing people need to remember is most people aren't enthusiasts. They dont care one bit about 0-100 times. Features like reverse parking camera's, blind spot sensors, heated seats and the like matter to them. And rightfully so if you don't give a toss about performance then a comfortable car with plenty of gadgets focused upon increasing the safety of you and those around you is ideal.
And yeah A/C was once a useless gimmick how many technophobes in this thread have taken the A/C out of their cars because its a gimmick? |

Being a nice car to drive and having all the gadgets imaginable are not mutually exclusive. MAGIC Body Control is something that I would love to experience for myself.

And the price of the W222 S class is?
As I said, people want different things in a car and if gadgets are free, who cares! I prefer other things in a car. A Hyundai with trinkets ain't doing it for me! I am glad that some can afford a new S class.

It doesn't do anything for me either.
A Ford with all the gadgets, however .... I understand people want different things in cars. What I want isn't necessarily what other people want. Fair enough. I just don't see why a car can't be a great driver's car and one that's gadget laden too. The two are not mutually exclusive. And if people don't want to use the "gadgets", as it were, they don't have to - just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it. But if it's there, it might be more attractive to certain buyers who do care about these things. As time moves on, these "gadgets" become expected features, such that not having them could be a deal breaker for some.

It's foolish to try and say that some gadget laden cars like M3/M5, E63/C63, RS Audi's, Jags, Lambo's, Ferrari's etc. that have plenty of gadgets aren't also great drivers cars. They aren't mutually exclusive just because Aussie manufacturers never bothered with features until right now.

Again ..... some have different priorities when buying. Buy what you like and can afford. Again ..... A/C, power windows, air bags etc are not gimmicks or trinkets. They become a standard. There are some things that as the price drops, they will be available in lower priced cars. Power windows, A/C and airbags are some of those things along with colour screens and climate control are now standard. EVEN on a povo pack XT. I would say that GT's are one car that are targeted towards enthusiasts. Concentration is on the drive, stopping and going bits rather than lipstick holders? Built to a budget yes. More buttons? If they can put them in and not charge one cent more. Will they do that? Compare a stock BA 2003 with the standard FG GT and what are the differences? In 10 years, a hell of a lot! The price difference between a BA GT and an FG GT 10 years on? Bugger all .... if not cheaper now than then. Things evolve and as technology becomes cheaper, they will be included. Have a look at the list of techno stuff available in the link above for the W222 Merc. Add them up and if you want a hamburger with the lot, the accessories are similar price to a brand new FG GT 335. Everyone wants everything but they wont pay the extra in a Falcon.

It may be your point but its not the threads point. That point seems to be any car with modern features is just a lame gimmick for people who dont care about cars.

Only in Australia they're worth that much because of import duties, luxury taxes, tarriffs, and our almost unique "no LHD new cars allowed" laws...overseas cars that are "premium luxury models" here sold for big prices are just family cars and taxis...

Shame isn't it. Once 2017 rolls around as sad as it is that manufacturing is going, possibly govco might allow more competitive pricing and also scrap luxury tax ...... but I know. Dreaming

Would be nice too see Beemers, Audi's, Mercs, etc. sold for reasonable prices. Common cars everywhere else in the world, but they're basically supercars in Australia.

My car can graph fuel consumption and temperature over time of a trip in some sort of dot graph. Absolutely and utterly pointless given that it's a performance car. Probably the only thing it has that's not considered standard equipment in the POV boxes you could buy today.. and it's a $65000 car. |

Love the Push Button Start on my car.
No grabbing keys out of my pocket to get in, and then to start. Just open the door, press and off I go. Was it a factor in my decision to purchase? Yes. I could have saved a few grand on the lower model, with just about the same gear. Saying that; wasn't the button start a pre-1950's gimmick

It would be nice to think Ford can make a decent effort with the last Falcon to bring it somewhere near the VF's technology, but as mntioned previously I'm not holding my breath.
In my view a manufacturer is best measured against its direct peers in the same catagory so I think comparisons with the tech in the VF and SRT8 are most relevant and FG comes up well and truly short, albeit acknowledging its a six year old model now. Fact is nobody needs the tech per se, (in answer to the threads question), but people want it, that's why the VF is selling so well. FG1 in particular is now a long way behind current standards of available technology and to some extent I'm feeling that, (not even a reverse camera or GPS system in a top of the range FPV built in 2011 for goodness sake), but I would be the first to acknowledge the fact that for the money the performance Falcon vehicles, all of them, drive, handle and perform very well indeed and those fitted with Brembo brakes stop very well too so from a core motoring perspective they do the job very well indeed. Technology that really matters is what enhances the drive experience, IMHO and it will always be something of a disappointment to me that FPV didn't ever see fit to fit some form of adaptive or adjustable suspension. Someone remind me, for how many years have top range HSV's had adjustable suspension now ? |

Actually I think every one here needs technology packs fitted to their cars, I see heaps of members under all categories asking to how to fit this stuff to their poverty base model cars.

arent the technology packs going to make them nightmares as a used car.
with every little thing breaking and costing an arm and a leg to fix. AU falcon owners winge when there power window regulators give problems, imagine when these technology packs of current new cars start playing up... millions of things will be wrong with the car and make it a throw away item. The other day I looked at a mates BMW and it had some gadget to lift your seatbelt up for you when you sit in the car. I mean what is that? |

I couldn't care that the tech in my new car might be an issue for future owners. As long as it isn't for me as the first owner.

americans are planning for 30% fossil fuel transport between 2050-2070.
most other nations are similar plans,I like to see plans for iphones and blue tooth in 2025.
