But the question that your asked was why aren't Falcadores seen in the inner city? And I think you answered your own question. Falcons and Commodore's simply have the wrong badge on them. The inner city is in my experience populated by affluent people who feed on their social status and "stuff" is a way for them to inflate their status. A Jag or a Porsche is seen as a status symbol. A Falcon or Commodore is not seen as a status symbol, in fact they are often seen as the opposite. There has been a large amount of cultural cringe over the past decade towards those that proclaim themselves as Australians, whether through the products they buy or through their actions. Also bear in mind the buying public as a whole has moved on from purchasing large sedans and moved towards smaller vehicles like the Mazda 3 or Corolla. |

For some a car purchase is an aspirational decision, so they buy a Merc or BMW. Others have a functional need, so they buy a Hilux or Tarago.
Many dont really care, they just want a car that is easy to drive and reliable, they buy a Mazda3 or i30. Anyone who tows bought a 4wd many moons ago. There are just so few buyers for whom new Falcodores tick any boxes. BTW, how many people still buy Tooheys New? |

I love the falcon and commodore, great value, performance, easy to mod, spaceous etc etc.. But Im sort of seeing the light a little bit amongst certain circles of people... it can be a bit embarrassing to say you drive one (falcodore).
Consider this....If you were to go for a high paying job, if you turned up and parked in their carpark with an EL falcon (lets assume their office overlooks the carpark) they would dismiss you straight away. But turn up in a nice new euro car and they would think "this guy must be ok".. Im not saying its right but it happens...moreso in the inner city. A guy at my work had a pretty decent role and he had a EB falcon.. heckled by management. He then upgraded to a new VE commodore, received a promotion, but still heckled a little when he parked next to the other managers cars. Then he upgraded to a new grand cherokee and bam another promotion. Coincidence? |

Meh. Who really cares what people think of them. Hell I drive a GT with the biggest slowest Boss lump. Wouldn't buy a euro trash for a status symbol. Driving a well maintained car is where it's at for me.

It’s also no slouch in gear, its transmission isn’t a world beater but it is effective and the 6.2 litre produces plenty of torque across the range. A FPV might be a different matter. Still any car that can even scare a stock performance Euro’s is a good thing in my books. But enjoy it while you can. The Turbo Falcon is dead soon and the first orders for the new model C63 will arrive here in about 6 months and they’ll have 2 turbos strapped on board. And like usual the C model is detuned so it doesn’t steal the thunder from the E Class AMG but the C63S still pumps out a stock 375kW between 5500-6200rpm and 700Nm between 1750-4500rpm. And like most Euro’s, it’ll know how to get its power to the ground. I’ve been on the Mercedes Forum for a few months now and one thing I’ve noticed is there are Euro owners and there are car enthusiasts that own Euros. Don’t underestimate the AMG’s and the like at the lights as you’ll find the car enthusiasts who buy these cars are no difference to the Ford boys, they modify them. I was surprised at how many do. Europe, North America and even Australia have access to a lot of go fast bits and tunes for Euros. And now there are a lot of C63’s out of warranty, a lot more modding is going on. If the current model is any indication, the car guy owners will be having the Dealers drop in the E63 tunes or getting the aftermarket boys to work their mental magic with tunes, exhaust, intake and even supercharger mods. For the standard C63’s the Mercedes-Benz dealers now offer supply and in house fitment of the larger trans and diff coolers from the Black Series for the guys who want better reliability at the track. And these are not in your face mods, unless you listen for changes in the exhaust sound you probably won’t even know it’s been played with. A lot of the AMG owners on the forum talk about the large number of drivers who want to take them on and in some cases they'll play along a little for a tease. Given that many are out of their league, they only want to hear the AMG bark. So unless you are driving both cars at the same time you won’t really know if the other driver was having a serious dig. A modded XR6T or a modded C63 AMG, I know where I’d be heading if I could ever afford it. Like I’ve said in other threads, the locals offer good performance, especially the new Fords but the packages are a compromise compared to the deep pocket offering of the Euros. And when it comes to modding, the euro owners know how to do it just as good as the locals. And why are there less Falcons and Commodores in the city, simple, it an environment more suited to small cars. The brands themselves, locals and imports are spread far and wide, just like their owners. Last edited by LoudPipes; 03-12-2014 at 05:29 PM. |

Rock up to a s****y hotel in a EL falcon and you will be turned around. Turn up in a ferrari and watch them iron your shirts for you. Turn up to a job interview in a cheap suit and you will be rushed out the back door and pushed off the balcony. Im not saying its right but thats the way it is. |

The xr6t is a great car no question but put your boot into a AMG c63... You can see where the money is spent. I cant beleive how well they get the power to the ground...ridiculous considering the output.. Even a stock Xr6t leaves you with an unintentional lane change under boost, crossed up... Thats the difference. those with some cash just dont accept that as a characteristic of a brand new car, you cant just shoehorn a big powerful motor in and your done, they expect it to all work together in unison. I suspect that as you near the CDB more and more people have money and thus less and less people drive falcodores. |

Regardless of how much $$$ you`re on, get the car that you want (or what wife forces you to buy), not what you think others will judge you on. If we kept on constantly worrying about what others think of us, especially randoms, our lives would be doomed. Kind of like worrying about getting old. If you purchase a car to boost your status symbol, especially a c63, you will be in for a shock if waiting at the lights and a Mclaren pulls up alongside you. People wont even notice the merc, well maybe if it was on fire.
Never really taken any notice of the types of cars in the City. Only time I go into the CBD is for a pub-crawl with friends and a visit to the Hook...I mean Casino. Seriously though, I'd hate to commute into the CBD on a daily basis, but if I did, any small car that's good on fuel and easy to park would be my choice, regardless of make or year. |

Only the office people were allowed to park out the front, the rest of us had to park behind the shop, hows that for division of the workplace/snobbery. One of the workshop guys parked his car out there and came in, and he got told off and had to move it around the back right away, none of us were allowed to park there at all, even though there was 5 taken spaces by the office and another 15 spare spots. We even had three separate lunch rooms, one for the office staff, two for the shop staff. |

Quote Hulk: I wish the world was fair but it aint. People are not judged for what they can actually do, its who you know or the appearance you create moreso.
Off topic: So it's all about keeping up appearances? I don't have a lot of money, own a 3 bed lowset 40yo fibro 3 bed worth around $315k, own a '97 XH ute, don't have many nice clothes, work casually supplemented by the dole and I'm not very good looking. Does that make me a failure? Hell no! I have quite a few wealthy friends, and friends that are better off than me. They don't judge me by what I have, or what I look like. They accept me for who I am and the loyal friendship I have to offer. I'm a willing worker and try my best for my employers. I have some minor physical disabilities due to a stroke and a motorcycle accident. Going by your criteria Hulk I'd have no chance in hell of being anything to anybody. Thank **** I don't meet many people like you. Anyone who judges me by my appearance or wealth is seriously missing out on a kind and helpful person. Cheers!

I dont doubt that you are of great value..
but unfortunately the world dont reward good blokes. Good bloke or bad bloke... money talks louder. Just like society judges people for the car they can afford to drive. The falcodore is an entry level proposition (but a great car in my opinion). |

People automatically connecting appearances with money crack me up.
My best mate I have known for 20 years is a deadest feral. Strikes a very close resemblance to Charles Mansan. Is more then happy to get around in thongs and his Wozza the Rock Dog T shirt. Works hard in a factory and has nothing to prove to anyone. By Hulks accounts he would be a destitute , bottom feeding bum. When he bought his first house he set himself a budget of 400k. Found a nice place in a good area then had a major hassle with deciding how to buy it. Should he get a mortgage or just buy it outright? His concern was if he bought it outright it would NEARLY clean out his savings.................what a hassle to have hey. Him and his missus are now on to their 3rd house (they have rented out the other 2) and he is still the same bloke I met all those years ago. What does he drive as his status symbol? A mid 90's Landcruiser and a VS V8 ute on LPG. Some people just have nothing to prove to everyone else. Its only people that know him well that would know he can use a $50 note as toilet paper. |

The reason why you have uniform, the reason why white collar workers in Melbourne CBD seem to be angrily walking around in suits, from what cars people drive (SUVs?), look at fashions and the stuff people wear. What about the iPhone and apple computers? People line up around the block and camp out for them outside the store, its no better/worse than all its competitors. Everywhere judgment, everyone is quick to form an opinion on just looks. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 03-12-2014 at 10:23 PM. |
