I honestly don't understand how this could be deemed offensive. Like all the other BS going around at the moment about being offended at the names of things, context matters
Do they really think people pay much attention to number plates in the first place? A car person may, the average person wouldn't. I saw a bloke with the plates LS362 today. Means nothing to most but I only noticed it because I'm a car guy. How is that any different to WEPN? It could be initials for all anyone knows |

Plenty of these decals I've seen. Not sure why as opposite ends of Aust.
Doubt it would be ok in other States if "WEPN" is somehow offensive..... |

The first personal plates allowed in WA (1980s) had to retain the 3alpha.3numbers format, they were a different colour (blue background) but you could choose your own.
I remember 2 favourites I saw. On a Sandman panel van: YAH 000 (He had a sense of humour) On a plumbers van : POO 000 (Him too) I am also sort of guilty of "snowflakeness", back around 1990 during the first Gulf War, I was chief scrutineer at Wanneroo (Barbagallo), a young guy turned up with a street car (maybe it was a Torana) with number plates FAQ IRAQ. I made him remove them before passing the car for racing. I don't think they were proper road number plates. So shoot me! Cheers.

Just need a heap of stickers made with the offending WEPN plate on them, everyone can stick them on their car, Vic roads can then do nothing about it.
Just seems to suck that someone takes offence to a number plate, and it can be seized, but I can put a sticker of whatever I like on my car and they cant do ****! |

He obviously liked fat chicks.
Like I said to him its a personal preference, I would not complain if a fat chick had a sticker that read no tow truck drivers, he didnt like that so he got me for the mandatory oil leaks, and i didnt get the tow, as he said the law states that a tow truck has to be in roadworthy condition, blagh, blagh, blagh. |

So it wasn't public complaints that led to these plates being recalled. Unlike my plates which was a result of 3 public complaints, these plates were deemed "inappropriate for public display" by Vicroads head office.

Surely some compensation is involved?
Can't be fine for years then suddenly have to give them up for nothing? |

Have to wonder if the trend lately for lone terrorists to use a car as a weapon to kill people had anything to do with their decision?
Had Mr Hansen been radicalized? Is he on AFP/ASIO's watch list? On the other side of the fence, if Mr Hansen did indeed do the unthinkable mentioned above, there would be people having a massive hissy fit saying the authorities had ignored the signs, and did nothing about it. |
