And that my friends is most likely why the 40th anniversary GT is so much less than what it could have been, instead of making it something special and doing something a little different with it they blew the budget on that thing and re intern got a under done GT.

Bat hay like it matters to them they will still all of em anyway, purely cause it a Anniversary edition.

certainly tacky looking, are they the wheels that are going to come out on them, I hope not. They look like those cheap 19's you can buy from TTF etc that every one has in 17's on there BA's.
anyway, the stripes over the car are way too close, they need 2 extra thin lines on either side of them, and you could really do without the side stripes, they are getting old and are UGLY!

Good one mate !

What are some people going on about ? Do they understand tooling costs, engineering costs, testing, manufacturing processing, etc etc etc.

The cost compared to the potential profit from all these 'wish lists' is disproportionate. The potential extra sales are miniscule !

Ford Australia is a tiny company (world wide), and they do a fantastic job of engineering and manufacturing a unique car in the Ford world.

The type of things people are requesting cost big bucks (in a really tight financial climate) for a manufacturer - apart from the fact that they divert limited resource away from core business.

Do some of you guys think that Ford have 100's of spare engineers siting around waiting for your next request ?

It is really tough for them right now - they have just layed off a lot of people and don't have the resource for this stuff right now !!

Test car converted by the team as an 'after hours' project, not a million $ concept car or a 'great idea' costing a bucket load of cash to engineer.

Money IS tight at Ford right now.

A lot of you guys seem to hate it but I sat in one today and I love it. I love the retro look. Its in the same style as the GT40, GT350H and Cobra.

How many here intend buying a GT? I am of to City Ford on Tuesday, If I can get fleet on one I may be ordering on novated lease (provided my company does the right thing when I hand over my company car). If not it will be the new blue, "Conquer" with white stripe package and leather.

No I think that HSV are sort've brushing against the ceiling of what people find an acceptable price for a local muscle car ($100ish k). $150k is a bit too steep.

My point was more that you can have a cheap acceptable "base" price car and then if you want to load it up do what the Germans do (>$70k for a Mini Cooper S JCW convertible - eek). There wont be too many people who get one with all of the fruit but if you get your numbers/prices/options right you can still be profitable.

Granted Aus is a small market and Ford (who have far more pressing concerns at the moment) still wouldn't be able to justify a fully worked over car but I'd still like too make the choice on too hard/too soft or be able to pick a few tweaks (and accept the tradeoffs) that would really sharpen up a car.

p.s. What were HSV asking for the 7 litre Monaro that never went in to production? Around 200k wasn't it? They had customers for that car but the numbers didn't stack up in the end.

Hey guys....EASE UP!

Get off Ford's back, go back to bed and start dreaming about 400kw, V10's and supercharged engines

Do you really think that a car with any of those would be financially viable for Ford/FPV...not a chance. The fact that people are willing to have a crack at Ford Oz with their current line up and power outputs is a joke! Grow up

Why would FPV make a significant power increase when we're about 12 months out from a completely new product, have a serious think about that. FPV have done what they could, without losing buyers for Orion, and trying to catch a few more for this year. Oh, by the way, they already have 25 sold prior to launch, so some people seem to like it.

Great looking car, R-Spec is a great idea, and hopefully should sell all 200 of them.

While we're on the theme of Ford Oz not doing enough, check out the XR4, Diesel Focus, Convertible Focus, 5 door Zetec and Ghia Focus, SR Territory, and Rip Curl Ute. NOT BLOODY BAD FOR A COMPANY WHO IS UNDER EXTREME FINANCIAL PRESSURE

Grow up Idiots!

If Ford build a 350-400kw missile, what about the export potential, and potential reputation of Ford Australia! So what if the OZ market is small, the rest of the world needs good aussie Ford MUSCLE!

All I am saying is if they were going to release a anniversary car you think they would have spent more on it seem that it was a limited run and they can charge a bit more for them hey I would have traded my GT-P on one but I think I wouldn't get much better than what I have got apart from the suspension upgrade. Before you bite my head off and call me all sorts of names I love my cars like every one on this forum I just wanted to see more improvement for the anniversary that’s all. As for my HO comment maybe I was getting excited with my figures (don't we all) but if they do release a HO they need to do it proply or leave it in the past and call it something else. I am sorry for the negative comments its just I would like to see more for such an important anniversary. Also I don't know how FPV or Ford operate I am just a customer who is very passionate about his cars.

HSV SV88, 89, 90, 91, LE and god knows what else ring a bell? It almost seems like Ford needs to tell Prodrive to bugger off and start again.

oooooo 40th anniversary Falcon GT

5 years and still 290 kw.

45th anniversary Falcon GT...still 290 Kw, but 50 kg heavier with a revolutionary stripe package of one soild and one dotted line just like the roads. Done in the same paint too.

Reflectors on roof optional, so HSV's can still drive all over the top of you.

What a disgrace.

Give us a Ford GT (or shelby cobra) 5.4 FFS!

I've seen an EL GT a few years ago at my local Ford dealer in the second hand yard and it still fetched a decent price, obviously not in the hundreds but its only a young car in comparison to XY GT's.

The wheels would look far better if they didnt have the black inside them.

Anyone else notice how uneven the stripes are at the front of the vehicle?
Maybe this one is a prototype or something like that, but check out where the stripes finish up compared to the license plate indent on both sides. Also it looks out of whack with the Ford badge - but I think thats just the angle of the photo a bit.

ok the badge is a bit skew, but the stripes, FFS, close enough isn't jesus.

For the record I have nothing against EL GT's, just thought it ironic of a EL GT owner calling this not so good.

How many of the people whinging in here have now retracted their $60k cash sum due to the release not meeting your expectations?...........Some how i think Ford/FPV/Prodrive couldn't give a ratsarse how Mr/Mrs I wasnt going to buy the car even if it had 375kw feel.

Looks good and the badges are neat but still another another poor effort, especially when you compare it to how they built other anniversary GT's ie EB and EL, there power outputs were a tad above your regular V8 (XR8 in those days) A little bit more thought ford???

An interesting comment. Even though the 25th & 30th anv EB/EL GT's were a pathetic showing they still had 35 & 25kw more than the equivalent top of the line performance vehicle. This was achieved not though big dollar one off product development, rather by reaching into the 1993cobra parts bin.

PS. I have the same colour combo on my GT, and I just can't imagine it with those big stripes over the bonnet, the roof, and down the back. Overworked.
The Shelby Mustang, GT40 and Cobra cannot be called "Bogan". In the flesh its stunning.

No pics but, seats are GT-P style with all leather, no suede like GT-P and standard GT. In the head reast it has "GT" rather than "FPV".

In the standard GT leather is just under a grand and stripes are 500. That would be about $63700 retail. The special addition was $65200 from memory. So for the additional $1500 over a leather and striped standard GT you get the upgraded suspension and the GT-P seats. Not bad in my books.

The problem for me will be the fleet discount. I can get almost 6k of a standard GT. City Ford dont think they can do fleet on this special edition so if thats the case its not worth it for me, it will be about $7500 over what I can get a standard GT with leather and stripes.

That new blue "Conquer" is stunning by the way. Looks like the XB GT in Apollo Blue. Thats what I will end up with If the deal works. If not it will have to be a lowley XR8, sigh.

I think FPV did an OK job with what they had available, which is next to nothing. There was no way in hell it was going to get more power, with Orion only 12 months away and R&D money rightly going towards that why would they bother. They only plan to sell 200 and that won't be too hard for them. I like the stripes, but surely they could have done it in gold with black stripes like the original XR GT it is celebrating. That seems to be a big oversight.

New trans cooler could be a valuable addition to other models that see the drag strip, track or are modded.
