I think prices will get to the point where driving unnecessarily will be a luxury or something we have to budget more for.

Might have to dust off my old push bike

Yes... Filled up with U98 for $1.95 yesterday.

War breaks out... Petrol prices drop. (Week before the war - $2.15)

But surely as the Easter bunny delivers my egg, the 4 day weekend will be upon us and prices will rise.

Go figure?

Seems to be all over the place at the moment, but the trend seems to be pointing UP. The next suburb over from Lilydale, it was $2.10 for standard ULP! Out Healesville side it was $2.00 for standard ULP.

It doesn't look like it has deterred many from venturing out though.....yet. Shed loads of cars heading out as I was coming back in the afternoon.

My missus was complaining to me that the price of fuel was bloody expensive (which it is), she felt a bit better when I broke it down to her that her car usually takes 45-50L per fill every 1.5-2 weeks. So it works out about $20/month more if she buys it at the highest price of the cycle.

I told her to not have a coffee at work one day a week and that will cover the increase, she didn't like that hahaha!!!

Oil companies are testing the market to see if people will tolerate +$100/barrell by keeping oil prices tight,
they know that the US has restricted new oil fields and causing a big shortfall in US production, forcing
them to buy up any free oil on the markets, that in turn forces up OPEC and Brent oil prices.

I know it may be nonsense but pursuing E85 and sunflower/rapeseed oil for diesels may be a way of easing prices
and the amount of petro dollars going out of our economy,. Perhaps natural gas to methanol or Butanol
are also other possible avenues now open with high prices

Strange, my local sleven has dropped their prices today. $1.70 for standard, $1.90 for 98. Go out to the regionals, its still $2.00+.

Yeah regional areas aren't hitting the highs of capital cities. Not even close. It's still in the $1.70's here.

I wonder if this has anything to do with covid lockdowns in melbourne, sydney etc and the servo's are now trying to recoup the money they lost during the lockdowns?

Think I was about 1.70 something last week too, regional. But tbh we hardly use the cars as much since covid (dovetailed with kids finishing school and all the teenager driving for sport & social ending)

91RON hit 221.9cpl in my neighborhood today, crazy stuff.

98RON @ 244.9cpl

I dont know if theres any correlation but everywhere I drove today people we're getting around well under the speed limits possibly trying to squeeze a few extra k's from what they have in the tank.

Question for those in the know, obviously 98RON Premium Unleaded is a higher octane fuel providing better combustion but what is the difference between normal diesel and premium diesel?
The Premium diesel is generally only a few cpl dearer than the standard diesel so Im thinking it cant be much different.
Anyone know?

Paid $1.88 for 98 in Canberra today

If you work it out over a year, even paying 50 cents extra a litre if you do 500km a week is around $1000 a year if your car averages 10l/100km. That’s actually not that much when you think about how much interest rates etc could rise.

I’m lucky, my commute is only 40km each way and I work away at least 4 days a fortnight.

I paid 1.88 this morning for 98 at 0900 at Costco

I’ll go to Costco every time, always saves me around $15-$20 a fill.

BP at Fyshwick is regularly 40 to 50 cents dearer than Costco for 98.

Cool, I was simply stating what I paid for 98 today. I thruthfully don’t pay attention generally as it’s something I need and will buy regardless. Nice to see our prices still lower than Sydney though. We used to be 20-30 cents more 10 years ago

A lot of Sydney prices are actually cheaper atm, Around the Eastern suburbs it is $244.9.Out west as you go out of the city it is much the same as us, some just over $2.00 some just under a lot around $2.10 & mid teens.I filled up a couple of weeks back for $1.90.

Didn't think you'd have to worry about petrol prices for the next 12 months?

You're completely right,

Perfect timing on not being able to drive, well I can still drive, it's just not worth getting caught

As much as I like to think the entire world actually revolves around me, high fuel prices effect everything, from what you pay to get to work, to what you pay for the goods at the shop.

This is going to send freight costs upwards.

Losing my licence is probably the best thing that's happened in my life as it's completely changed my perspective on how much I value my time

Oil prices down 17% overnight & gas down 30% after UAE & Iraq agreed with OPEC to increase production.Sky News UK:The price of a barrel of Brent crude which had soared to $139 a barrel @ the start of the week, slid to below $106 as two key OPEC producers signalled they were ready to turn the taps on, easing the inflation fears that have stalked the global economy.

Gee, they were super quick to go up, but the prices at the pumps sure seem very slow to go back down

I just went to My local servo to fill my car and the jerry can. This servo is always much cheaper than everyone else. Today they are 40c/l cheaper than others. It was absolute madness. People are filling up multiple jerry cans (one bloke had Atleast 10 20l cans in his Ute all being filled. Then these tradies arrived in a small truck. Pulled to the front of the pumps, waited for an opening and reversed in. Cutting the line massively. The station attendants wouldn’t unlock the pump and then it was an absolute screaming match, other people getting involved, thought it was gonna be a brawl.
Meanwhile the line is getting longer and longer out to two streets.

Filled up with 98 for 1.98/L. Nearly everywhere else is $2.45/L
