Driving up the Hume today, I passed maybe 6 trucks carrying Everest and Rangers. The Everests had plates on them but the Rangers didn't. Press cars?

You'd be able to go for more profitable private sale markets rather than being fleet queens, Ranger always sits in number 2 or 3 position but I reckon a good percentage of that position is through private buyers on high spec very profitable models rather than the Thailux and it's 2.7L Workmate.

No doubt at $30K with a 19 year old 2TR-FE engine in their 2.7L Workmate with a 5sp manual box sold in big numbers to fleets is very profitable but not as profitable as a $60K-90K Ranger to a private buyer.

Given Toyota reliability issues with this generation diesel Hilux wonder if they're going to wake up and put some effort in with the next generation, surely they'd have a new Ranger on its way to Japan by now

You can see technology sharing arrangements going on

Mazda in bed with Isuzu
Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi three-way
Ford and VAG sharing swags
The Chinese wild-card

Toyota? Ball is in their court now that Ford has fired the first HIMARS.

I'm hoping they all pull the finger out of their asses to be honest, for everyone's sake otherwise 2.7L 2TR-FE and it's 5sp manual box going to be in the year 3022 Hilux at this rate

Toyota was/is in bed with BMW with their diesel tech. They shared their hybrid tech with BMW.
But there is nothing wrong with the current Hilux reliability wise. We have dozens currently at work and never an issue. They did all get recalled for a crap design number plate bracket on their trays.
But the DPF issue has been a non-event for us.
Sorry, there was one which did a radiator recently. I think it had 150k kms.

The same can't be said for the reliability of the two Rangers we had.

That's interesting, what did you do on both Rangers? One of my customers fleets they all did injectors that lead to engine damage, was the 3.2L I5 but none of them did autos, go figure.

I hope they do, but I doubt those engine bays are long enough to house an I6.

A mate was telling me, they have a Ranger at work been good so far, very comfortable.

He also told me his Father in Law has an RACV depot in Rural Victoria and has a done a few recoveries of Rangers recently.

What about the 2.4 and 2.8 used in the Hilux? Isn't that a 100% Toyota engine?

Yeah they’ll be press and event cars. There’s dealer staff and Ford employee drive days on at the moment as well as press events.
Raptor drive events are also happening next week.
So the Raptors are currently clocking up some km to run them in before getting thrashed by dealers and Journos. So you may see them out and about. I believe they are all Code Orange.

Bit of a comparison. Numbers like this are obviously not relevant to everyday driving but interesting nevertheless.

Is that good in something with a much higher CoG.
Be amusing to see tools ejected out of the back, as the local tradies drag race to the job site.

I don't think it matters how fast they accelerate. Two of my friends who I felt the least safe with both were driving utes that probably take about 20+ seconds 0-100. The problem was it took a while to get up to speed, but once they were going fast they never wanted to slow down for anything. That's the scary part.

Will yourself or anyone else please tell what the importance of being able to get to 100 km/h in 13seconds when 16-18 seconds doesn’t add very much to the overall trip time.

If you have to have it explained to you then I don't know what to say

Better tell anyone with a quick car to not bother buying one then.

And 13 is for the 1/4 mile. Not 0-100.

How many times does anyone, in any car, hold their foot flat to the floor from standstill to 100kmh, or even worse, for 400m?? To me it says more about the driver than the car.

It's a useless stat, esp in this category.

Got our first next Gen yesterday, drove it home 4 kms and thats about it.

This one is only a Bi Turbo Sport, should pick up the V6 today or tomorrow.

Good cars but Ford still does some odd ****, e.g. no auto park brake when the drive selector is put into P. That new shifter is also useless as I had already thought.

Got back in my Ram and yeh, wonder what all the fuss is about.

Ford Australia still couldn't organize a raffle in a pub. Bugger all spare parts in stock and no tonneau covers... Ended up getting a tonneau today from Tuff tonneaus in stock and ready to go. I remember we had the same issues with PX1 when they first came out. Most people want a tonneau cover on a ute of some description. No floor mats or weather shields in stock anywhere, they have had months of planning but couldn't execute, yet the the aftermarket can already deliver when they have only had access to cars for weeks.

Well really I can’t see much benefit in having a car that can accelerate that quickly.Yes you do want to get moving but again what is the real difference between 13 seconds for 400 mtrs or 20 seconds for the same distance.Still can only drive at 50 or 60 round town and 10-110 on the highway

If 0-100 sucks then so does 80-120 which is nice when overtaking.

Oh sorry I forgot you weren't supposed to exceed the speed limit when overtaking

Ah well, after 12 years running the gauntlet Ive only been caught once, if I got caught for everything I'd have no licence for 50 years not just one

At least it was a marked car and not a mobile or fixed camera, none of those bastards had snagged me.

I've done my fair share of driving on single lane roads and overtaking has never been an issue in any car. Even towing a van. Just need a bigger gap. It adds very little to a trip time if you get stuck behind a slow vehicle for a bit longer. Trucks manage, and they're speed limited.

This whole argument shows up who payed attention in maths at school.

Meh, had an average speed of 106km/h over 732km last time I drove from Adelaide to home, 6 hours 52 minutes from the hotel car park to my driveway.

Makes a huge difference over an interstate drive.

Speed kills, so how come I'm still alive?
