I used to work in the Pilbara.. Its not worth the money when you compare it to being home with the family.

I hear you there, I'm residential and home at 5.30 everynight, even time roster, no eating from the pig trough!! Most people don't realize how remote wa iron ore mines are, they in the **** end of nowhere, no popping to the shop, no let's take a bus into town, you're on site for 2 weeks 24/7 with nowhere to go

we got the speech last night about how the company needs to offload about 25% of it's workforce to compete on the world market. the dropping Aussie dollar wasn't enough to save them.......apparently. time to say goodbye to real estate values around the central QLD region. |

I'm in the hunter valley. We've just put 20 contractors on at work & our pit seems to be one of the few going against the trend atm. Hopefully things start pick up soon for everyone out there!

Get plenty of people in the area complain about the pits but there wouldn't be the towns with people the way they are if they weren't here. The industry supports a lot of jobs that are totally unrelated

We haul in the same region, for a different mob. We've been cut down from unlimited tonne per day first half of the year, to 8,000 from about May. Last month all us contractors got knocked down to 4,000 tonne per day. As a result we have about 20 road trains parked up and a lot single shifted... a lot of money not making money. On the plus side a good excuse to eff off some of the dead weight, a one way ticket outa here. Last edited by smoo; 27-09-2014 at 01:26 PM. |
