They really focus on changing driver attitude, and it is that which will save you, not how to drive defensively. When I say that I mean defensive driving cannot be practised on a regular basis, but you can practise changing your attitude every time you get in the car. Look under BAAMS Driver Profile. |

For the WRX to have spun out (given their grip levels) I would say he was doing a whole heap more than 100...

Aeron, you poor thing. However, you did a great thing and helped by being there and I just hope you don't feel the after-effects for too long.
For discussions of traffic policy, it's probably worth mentioning that the road toll has been barely reduced by the 'speed kills', 'every k over is a killer' campaigns which have mainly involved... wait for it: speed cameras. Speed is related to what we need to drive, to move, it is inappropriate speed that can result in problems. And it's the sudden stopping that results in injuries/death so driving 60km in an 80 zone can result in death just as much as driving 80 or more in an 80 zone... It's the focus on 'speed' that irritates me. Driver training, understanding the car, practice in hairy situations, and common sense will change the outcomes of the future. And hopefully fewer brave people like Aeron will have to witness these horrendous accidents. By the way, don't believe everything being touted about the scientific credibility of those Monash reports. www.roadsense.com.au |

Speed kills due to the fact that nobody is perfect we all make mistakes. The higher the speed the worse the consequence of the error.

I guess the thing is, suddenly without warning being confronted by the last thing you would want to see, ever. I drove cabs part-time for 4 years and the law of averages suggests one would see some terrible things on the road being on them so long. And I did. But a mate of mine departed this world when his car left the road at high speed and hit a gum tree some years ago. His body was absolutely pulverized. There's no two ways about it, he made a mistake. The mistake WAS his speed AND his drinking prior to the incident. It wasn't a particularly powerful car, just an old Holden. Anyway it made me humble on the road. For most of the time. Until I get a bit smart-arsy once in a while, then there's a bit of a close shave and I think.... settle down boy, what are you trying to prove?

I feel sorry for the family of Goran. They must feel so bad. I dont think I feel anger towards him. He didnt plan for this to happen.
Here is a pic off the news of the HQ. You'd have to be going fast to do that to a HQ. The WRX. The outer door skin from the WRX is stuck to the front of the HQ.

Aeron, I would like to extend my thanks and condolences to you for stopping and providing assistance to the victims of this road accident. I have too been unfortunate enough to be one of the first people at the scene of two fatal road accidents, both in which the deceased suffered huge injuries so I know exactly what you would of experienced.
Take everyones words of advice and if you start feeling a bit weird go see a counsellor. Even if you don't get weird, still go see one. It eventually catches up to you, as it did to me, and made my life hell. And I try not to be harsh but in all reality if the WRX hadn't of floored it this accident probably wouldn't of happened. At the risk of repeating myself it's all about driver mentality. No amount of increased fines, car reposessions or cancelled liscences will stop it. Once again my condolences and support to you Aeron. Hopefully you wont have to witness something like this ever again... *hugs* |

I think I need to see someone. I feel ok, then all of a sudden I feel like ИИИИ and angry too. I fell asleep in the lunchroom at work today. My boss told me I should have stayed there. Didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. I find my self just staring into space too. And I feel a bit nervous when driving. Also when I hear a siren, I stop what im doing and listen 'til it goes away. Sounds crazy I know. I still remember hearing all of the sirens coming. It felt like it took for ever to get there.

Definately go see someone. Especially with the anger thing. That is exactly what happened to me and it still happens sometimes. So yeah, go ASAP. Take some time off work if need be, I'm sure the boss will understand.
