Take it easy man, I was just having a joke. I know all about torque steer as I have a Ralliart Magna.

although its not an exact comparison, I have a Mazda SP23 (auto), and its absolutely awesome. Best daily car ever. Its got plenty of punch for traffic, good on the highway. Only downside is the road noise.

Well, after being a passenger in my friends new GTi (its an auto with the sexy box as well), I wasn't blown away. Im not sure if he was driving like a woman or what, but it didn't throw me back with a smile on my face. I know its hard to judge being shotgun and not actually behind the wheel though. I understand the Golf is probably the better "all round" car, but do I want that?

In comes the Mazda MPS.....

Finally found one down on the Central Coast to test drive. went through all the usual chatter explaining I was comparing all the cars and wanted a test drive.

Finally got behind the wheel with the car sales man beside me and wife in the backseat. pulled out of the driveway and put my foot down to accelerate. Holy Crap!!!!

This thing is a rocket, yeah it torque steers, but for a good reason. It zoom zoom's.

Despite what reviews have said, driving this car normally was comfortable and easy, the clutch will take a few drives to get use to because it lets go so early. You can just putt around all day though, but as soon as you press the accelerator, its a totally different car. I loved our 06 Mazda 3 Neo, great to drive and great on fuel, loved the look inside and out, which was also a plus. Exactly what OED666 said, best daily driver car ever.

After arriving back at the dealership, and talking figures, it was hard to resist, certainly the best of the 4 in my books, with the XR5 second and the WRX dead last. Hard to rank the Golf as I didn't drive it, but my Wife didn't want one and its a little smaller then the other cars.

Pick it up mid-late January in red!!! ;)

Good choice well done, the Mazda ownership experience is great (or in NZ it is) quarterly magazines, damn it I even got a Christmas present last year & I didn't even buy the car new. Throw in the 3 years fee scheduled servicing and the build quality/reliability and it really does make me want to buy another.
