has anyone used a Pizza stone in a gas powered BBQ? after hearing mum had one laying round at home I think it might be worth a shot, weather a barby can even get hot enough is another thing.

I'm test running the pizza stone tonight to see what it's like, hoping for good results , i have the dough in the bathroom under the heat lamps having a rest before rolling it out. also found some awesome herb and garlic triple concentrate tomato paste to try out as well. going with ham, salami, red capsicum and maybe a few other things. pics to follow!!! wish me luck!!!
also i checked out wood fired pizza ovens on fleabay, holy cow they are expensive!!! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/WOOD-FIRED-PI...item35a6b3841e http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Wood-Fired-Pi...item255890bff3 if you are a master of bricks and mortar i think you got it made when it comes to these.

Who here grows their own vegetables?? We grow 90% of our vegetables including potato, tomatoes, all herbs you can think of, corn, lettuce, carrots, zucchini, etc. Makes food you cook so much better knowing you have grown it yourself. The only stuff we can't grow is tropical things, mangoes etc, and our damn strawberry patch won't produce very good strawberries; although we belive birds are getting in under the net.
Mum won't cough up her quail recipe. Very peeved as it is a fantastic recipe. I'll score a good one from her soon.

you'd have to go with eucalyptus chips surely to really get the flavour Down at colonel light gardens shops you can go to Pappa Mia's and get awesome wood fired pizzas, nothing beats walking there after a long day at work and smelling that place : another awesome place is Grumpys Brewhaus at hahndorf. home brewed beers and wood fired pizzas, followed by a trip into hahndorf to get other munchies I'll upload the photos as soon as photobucket sorts itself out.

I'll ask dad how he got such good ones. Our cherry tomato plant has so many tomatoes on it, we can't eat them all. We also have about 4 others, all with good yeilds..
He also plants "companion plants" next to other plants, he did a heap of research on how certain plants grow better next to others, and it seems to work. I'll hit him up for some research.

some of the guys at work cook dinner on a thursday night and one of their tricks is they grow the really hot thai chillies and then dry them followed by a quick trip through the coffee grinder to make their own chilli flakes, I'm still not game enough to have my dinner burn at both ends. I do like a bit of chilli for flavour. but not for the sake of it heheh, but i'm interested to see what you can come up with vik, i can see the spices part of your pizza is sorted, what about the meat side?

When it's not a family pizza I give the chillies a bit of a shake... Meat depends on the day, ham, chook, prawn, proushouto, lamb,Barossa Fine food any stuff in those bags...even used bacon... OK... Say one of my Ham pizzas... Make me own bread, roll out a base,Leggos pizza sauce ,then Ahem chilli sauce Hot as you like, then chopped fresh Basil, cover base Sprinkle dried chilli to taste (I cover base) Then a light sprinkle of Mozzarella, dont want too much or you get too thick Barossa packet of ham,I never chop it,put a layer of the rounds to cover the whole base, this gives you another base to start again, and stops the basil from burning... Chopped onions, chopped fresh button mushies, red capsicum(out the jar for this one) Jalapenos, black Jumbo olives, again keep it all thin... Then thin soldiers of Peckarino cheese laid out like spokes, 10 max (grated the stuff once : much better when it melts like a blob) Then the trick ingredient... Ninos pizza sausage,it's a bit rounder than a two bob bit,put as much as you like it Then a very light snow of mozzarella again... I always do a spiral of ahem chilli sauce startin from the middle just go round about 3 times workin your way out to the edge Very last is another light sprinkle of pizza topper Oven for twenty or so still in pan,cos I wrecked my stone I just use a cast iron pan on the stove top to crisp up the base Get it hot and oiled while the pizza is still cookin, just before it's ready to come out turn off the pan. Check base, nearly always needs browning, slide onto pan and let it brown... vik...There ya have it...!!! |

Sounds great Vik - have you tried some Wintulichs garlic metworst on there maybe with or instead of the pizza sausage?
Oh - and WTF is used bacon? I thought that's what hung out after too much chilli...
