Sense be buggered, I-6T means more work your way Boss..
What about low boost non-intercooler, kinda like a Miller cycle with a bit more punch....

A low boost turbo motor would be nice...still keep the intercooler. Bassically the Same motor under a different tune. This could help with prices, as the turbos engine cost would be absorbed through more products.

1984 XE ESP was the last of them, I used to ogle a red one at Byrne Ford, she was around $15,000.

Stupid assumption.

I made it clear why I think someone would like the 5.4l XR8, for the exhaust and bonnet bulge... if that meets yours and other V8 fans credentials for a car, fine. I also mentioned that the SS is a great best of both worlds package if XR6T isn't for you.

BTW, stick with the topic rather than primary school jokes... credibility wise.

They may not of had much power back then but they were on par with the Holden offerings so performance wasn't an excuse.

Why not a boosted version of the turbo 4 instead of a detuned turbo 6 ?

Holden seems to sell plenty of NA's.

The only thing that separates me as a "second hand" buyer and a new is probably about 12-24 months. Just because I am not signing now doesnt mean I never will.

If people want to debate the XR8 then maybe they should read that epic thread in the Modular section.

For me a XR8 is about having a V8. I dont want, nor need a s/c'd weapon that capable of 400rwkws with a little tweak.

I have a young family so right now even though I could get a GT, I just have other priorities. Doesnt mean I have to commit myself to a bloody ecoboost falcon though.

Having a blown car also brings added costs of ownership aswell. So even if they did drop the GS price it would make no difference to me. The FPV brand doesnt really attract me either.

In my area there are many SS's used as family cars, that phoney wagon is a prime example. Its not really a modern V8, it has f all space in the back and yet they sell well because your normal aussie family bloke gets it past the missus because its "family", doesnt cost alot and keeps him happy with a engine and note to have some fun.

So if anything I am probably envious of what the commy guys get, even if our XR6T and Miami's wipe the floor with them...no one really cares.

the ss is so popular and i think why is becasuse you know when a ss is coming down the street it has road presents where the xr8 is not
and that where i think ford went wrong compare a sv6 to a ss there differnt in so many ways
sometimes its hard to tell a standard xr6 and 8 apart if it wasnt for the red 8badge sometimes i wouldnt even notice it, so if ford dont change the style of the xr8 then dont bother releasing it the general public wont even know anyways

just my 2 cents
I see plenty of SS's on the road. But almost all of them have a SIDI badge glued right underneath.

I just ran some interesting numbers off www.redbook.com.au.

2012 VE II SS $49 790
2012 FG II XR6T $48 235

2012 VE II SS-V $57 290
2012 FG II GS/XR8 $57 990


I don't think there's any reason why a GS, simply rebadged as an XR8, with NO other changes, wouldn't be a positive step. The pricing, as we can see, would be competitive with it's natural opponent. And to say that it would steel sales away from the GS is just dumb - it IS a GS sale.

BADGES and STICKERS. That's ALL it would take to revive the XR8. Period.
