I guess that those that can afford to buy a Bugatti wouldn't flinch at the up-keep costs = $3M to a billionaire would just be chicken feed

But even then, the problem is that they are nolonger functional.
Even a $50M jet has a purpose.

These cars are simply an item of Jewellery, and not even the type of Jewellery that relatively rich people might actually wear, but rather those items created purely for their expense, to be locked away in private collections.

Cars that achieved great results based on flair, experience, design skill, etc, are to be admired even when priced well beyond the reach of ordinary man. But in the modern era, when it comes down simply to computers and how much money you're prepared to sink in R&D, it just seems too easy to slip from aspirational to ostentatious.

Three years since the Chiron has been released and Bugatti have not yet unleashed it's full potential. Why the delay?

Last i heard was, because they are speed limited to 410?, they can’t then remove the limiter and claim the record for speeds above that. So if they can’t claim a new record then why bother?

Not sure why they speed limited them. Tyres maybe?

That is the common consensus on the internet. According to Bugatti the Chiron is good for approximately 465km/hr.

Three years since the Chiron was released and Bugatti have not yet unleashed its full potential. Speed is limited to 420km/hr which is lower than the 431km/hr achieved by the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.

Wow. Man first broke the 300 MPH barrier in 1935.

Now it can be achieved in a production car.

490km/h is a decent speed!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuS_bXJNync

I read this one is slightly modified to standard, with an extra tune up to give it another 100hp (but at those speeds that would only give you what 5kph?!
Also it is 25 cm longer than standard with a longer tail and has the air brake wing removed.

This is not technically true. Koeniggsegg beat them almost every time. This latest version is modified so not a production version.

There is some suggestion that this modded non production Chiron was running closer to 2000 bhp to achieve that result....
Probably the reason why it only did a single pass and not the expected double pass with average speed over the 2 runs used to calculate the speed to be used for the test. ( 1 pass in 2 separate directions to negate any tailwind advantage )
At 2000hp the wick would have been wound off the scale and a second pass would have welded the engine up.
