Totally for it.
We saw that case recently in South Australia where the man died on his honeymoon and their marriage wasn't recognised so the partner could not make any decisions. It's an equal rights issue. Sanctity of marriage? What's that thing about the Kardashians making millions off a marriage then divorcing? TV shows where people marry near strangers? What sanctity? As for a perversion of nature, there's sex between same genders in a myriad of animals, it's pretty normal. Then you have the people claiming that if we allow gay marriage, EVERYONE will get gay married, then the human race will die out. Pretty sure only the people who are gay will marry people of the same gender, so anyone who follows that theory really has some of their own issues they want to work out. As for the plebiscite, they don't want it because: 1. It's going to cost millions 2. It's not binding, and a number of LNP members have said they will ignore the outcome in any case. 3. Bringing it to vote means the anti-gay propaganda will skyrocket, and people who are already marginalised will be even more so. 4. It's a basic human right. We shouldn't have to vote on it. |

Here we go again... It is all us old bastards fault!! Maybe because when homosexuality became in vogue, most, if not all participants got AIDS. Now that the medico's have a handle on that it does not seem relevant anymore so it is back to game on. That is/was the only issue this old bastard has. Do any of the younger generation you speak of know anything about AIDS?

woman + woman and man + man = unbalanced environment for off spring, is that not a fact? did the op think this question is black and white, these so much more to it than answering a poll. i,m speaking out for the children too of these backward situations. all of those examples that you posted, to me that comparing apples to oranges. i thought same sex unions are relatively new, (well i never heard of it when i was a boy)and do you think that if gay rights and co push and shove into the media (just like they do) and push to get it passed in parliament, then gay marriage is acceptable to every body. there are a huge percentage that are against. but if your against, then i get the feeling that theirs some pressure on you, your old fashioned, narrow minded etc. theres one guy on here saying that the against voters are this and that, that type of remark only alienates against voters, and then it can become a control conversation. well i have to add, when i see a kid with two same sex parents on tv, i think , how is that kid going to get a balanced up bringing? its not normal. Honestly what is normal exactly? Isn't it lucky that every single thing you do in life is normal. What are the odds of that Gay marriage has zero affect on my life, so why would it worry me of gay people are together or even married. A happily married gay couple is a much better couple to be hanging around than an unhappily married straight couple. |

This may be anecdotal, but I knew three blokes who were fervently anti anything gay. They would rabbit on ad nauseum about the virtues of heterosexuality and publicly deride anyone they perceived to be gay.
Turns out all three were as gay as (insert non-PC gay joke here). Two of them even shacked up together. |

Just like all religious people aren't fanatical, and not all vegans are lunatics, etc. There's plenty normal people media whoring and agenda pushing. In any case, the gay marriage thing is a hot topic and controversial at the moment, of course it's gonna be everywhere. That's also in a big part the medias fault. Sensationalism and all that. Quote:

Argument 1- a child has a right to a loving home, whether from mum and dad, two of the same or either one. Kids from hetro households are abused as well, I'm one of them, and working in retail for 10 years I've seen plenty more. Argument 2- I can't even respond to that, it's beyond logic. So when a dad ditches mum and baby that's ok? Where's the loyalty? I'm willing to bet a far higher percentage of hetro couples ditch their kids than gay couples. Argument 3- yeah because damaged kids are exclusive to hetro couples. Argument 4- See above. Argument 5- see above. Also can you provide evidence? Argument 6- see above. Argument 7- seeing as this is so common I'm sure you won't have any trouble providing links to cases. Argument 8- Ireland is still standing, so is the USA, and every other country where it's legal. They haven't collapsed. That's my point, those against just spew out statements with no evidence to back them up, none what so ever. And before anyone tells me to provide evidence of my own just look at the countries where it's legal. They're all happy, healthy and their sky hasn't fallen in. |

As I've said before, you need to actually look at the history of marriage, polygamy was common, not one man, one woman. Women were seen as property, they had no rights. Geez, even in the holy book, if you were to rape a woman, you paid the father and she was forced to marry you. How's that for tradition? It's only been the last couple of centuries where women started getting rights in a marriage. Prior to that, they were simply the man's property. You seem to have the same rhetoric that Abbot used, here's an article fact checking his position. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-0...rriage/5053844 Quote:

I imagine this roundabout argument we are having would have been similar to the ones people were having when they decided to let women have a vote or even something as recent as the 'White Australia Policy'. |

Conscience vote it and get it over with already. A member of parliament should at least be able to gauge support in their own electorate if nothing else.
All a plebiscite is likely to achieve is to waste millions of dollars to be exactly where we are now instead of moving on and spending that effort on issues that really need more thought than this does. |

Adamz Ghia, deflecting my arguments as hetero problems does not make them less valid.

You know it would be as funny as hell if it was put to the vote and it got voted down, I think I would laugh for a week (only because of the media hype around it)

And you base that conclusion on...?
You do realise that this so-called "gay agenda" isn't perpetrated by the gay and lesbian community; the current amount of attention the gay marriage issue is receiving from the mainstream media is due to those much higher up in the food chain than Jane and Julie Punchclock. |
