To those owners who have actually stumbled upon a barn find i have one question..
Did you find those cars whilst out purposely searching for them or did you just 'come across' them...??? Reason being many people have told me that they come across them accidently and when they dont have $$$... I hope to one day find something special in a hidden Barn....

When i was working for my old man in the wrecking yard in wangaratta a few years ago we were offered from an old lady's estate A VE VIP Valiant that had only done 10,000 miles apparently her son had bought the car new and then crashed the car into a big gum tree killing him instantly the front was totaled but everthing else was in great nick as the old duck would clean it every month inside and out. They wanted $1000 for it at the time but the old man thought it was too dear(moron). You should have seen it everything as new once in a lifetime buy.. :togo:

My uncle has an XU1 Torana and a HQ Monaro with NOS fitted rotting away in a shed. Someone about 13 years ago asked him to respray the Torana, then ****ed off to Sydney and he never heard from him again. The Monaro is his though, and it just sits in the garage rotting away, as well as his Ford Fairlane 500 which is just rusting in the driveway. He prefers to drive his mum's old Nissan Pintara station wagon :(
My Dad's XE Falcon used to be there too, until it got taken away for scrap metal. |

I found mine thru my booses friend ..it was her fathers..been sittin since 2003 when he passed..heard about it months ago..but she didnt want to sell, still had an emotional attachment to the car.
But las week she said i could come and have a look..my boss told me it was green and had 12 slotters so i thought it may of been played with a bit.\ But you should of seen my eyes light up when i walked into the garage...silver and original hubcaps..could of sworn i was in a time warp.. |

My mates dad recently pulled his geniune 1968 HKS 327 Monaro (bathurst edition) out of retirement after 26 years the other week. White leather interior, maroon in colour. All original badging, etc.
Car hasn't been moved for 26 years after the gear level snapped off. We would have put money on the engine being seized and not starting. But sure enough, after we fed some fuel in through the carby, she fired and ran! Didn't sound at all healthy, but she went! I'll try get some pictures up!

My uncle out at Warren NSW used to work on the Irrigation Scheme out that way in the 60's/70's. His job meant he spent a lot of time on various properties in the area. It allowed him to scope the properties for cars. He now has a decent collection of Model 'T' Fords he's restored.
For those who regularly travel the Pacific Hwy through Grafton, there is what appears to be an old abandoned wrecking yard 10-15k's south of the town on the eastern side of the highway near the overhead illuminated RTA sign. It's owned by a wrecker in South Grafton who wanted to move his business to his property outside the town. Somebody complained it was an eyesore so the council stopped him from operating there. In turn he left the cars there as he wasn't going to move them twice. He will let you tour the yard (at a fee). 10 years ago he still had a stack of 40's to 70's stock. Unfortunately, some of the cars visible from the highway are rusted beyond repair. It's the stuff you can't see that's worth a look. BTW, if anyone comes across a barn or paddock with a HX GTS Monaro in Sierra Tan (dark brown mettallic) with Chamois interior and vinyl roof with HJ GTS stickers on the rear quarters, please let me know. I've been trying to track this car for 20+ years. It once belonged to the family. Last edited by Kingsley; 16-01-2011 at 11:18 AM. |

A mate of mine has heard of a mint Charger or two sitting out our way at a farmers property, problem is nobody knows exactly what farm and we can't seem to find any direction beyond what town it's near.
Beyond that i found a XB coupe at a caravan park rotting under a tarp, the thing has already had a roof put on it at some point and has more rust than metal left now sadly otherwise i would have snapped it up. A few years back i found another XB Coupe rotting under a tree that had sadly been sold only a handfull of days before i was at their property, although once again this had more rust than steel and the new owner in WA was in for a hell of a suprise i think. |
