Sorry to hear about FPV, and along with Tickford, they have contributed to the Ford performance story. For a few years, it was nice to know that the best FPV had more power than the other local v8, even though most of the media were in the red camp. And, of course now there are countless F6 and xr6T rocketships that the red people can't even acknowledge. BTW, Tickford still goes on in UK.
Also while everybody is talking kilowatts, did anyone notice the story on the Ford stand at SEMA, the FACTORY Fusion with 2 litre Ecoboost motor making just on 300KW? Same motor as the one here in the Falcon. Cheers

You COULD. I can only imagine how many have been sold today. The announcement has done exactly what Ford wanted, lit a fire under FPV sales.
I was expecting an FH GT, and hoping to get one with all the bugs ironed out for a decent price.
I will definitely be getting a V8 Falcon, as a keeper, because I love the Falcon and even now I have a thing for old cars. But the big bird isn’t aging gracefully, they just haven’t had the money to keep pace. Which is ok, I love it for what it is, but whereas Holden have gone one route to try and move sales, with good equipment levels and sharp pricing, it seems Ford just wants to do the opposite.
I mean why the hell should we be ordering 2014 GT’s now? Is the Ford production line suddenly swamped with demand?

I have not understood a lot of what FPV has done, I think their branding is ***** and their planning poor. And now, DESPITE their warm & fuzzy rhetoric, rather than look after fans they are just trying to manipulate us.
To be honest I have never cared about the “FPV” brand, it’s meaningless. The original GT’s were simply Ford Falcon GT’s, and that's how I have always thought of them.

So why is Ford killing the GT badge with FPV? The answer is simple; cynical manipulation. People will rush out now to buy the “last GT,” then the FH XR8 will arrive, and people will want to buy that, then in 2016 (or 15) we’ll see the “last V8 Falcon” and another opportunity to fleece customers.

Just part of the slow death which has been coming since 2007 when Ford announced to drop the local I6 and use an imported V6.

After fpv we buy the xr8... basically get the current GT and expect to pay xr8 price.. nothing wrong with that.

Shame to see FPV go, but as others have said the writing has been on the wall for a while now.

I am looking forward to see what sticker pack they can come up with in 2014 to clear excess FPV wheels and bumpers.

They haven't said they're killing the GT, only FPV.

That's okay there will eventually be 4352 R Specs in 40 years like there are about 10 times more HOs now than were ever built :-)

Now they need to announce their plans for the final models to give current owners and prospective purchasers firm ground to stand on to make buying decisions. And discounts for three-time FPV buyers :-)

If we are told nothing we complain we are kept in the dark. If we are told something we are being manipulated. Where's the win for Ford Aus in trying to interface with the community? There are no surprises in today's announcement, just confirmation and timeframes. I think the more worrying factor for current FPV owners is how good will be 2014 XR8 be? It may lack the cachet of FPV, but how will it shape up with a 2014 interior, if they give it decent brakes, if they tweak the steering and suspension, throw wider rubber in the rear, keep the GT tune (memory of the 290 ending up in FG) and sell for a value price?

I see there descisions as more of a forced thing, due to costs and logistics. It's easier to do an XR8 and spec that up to meet the price point standards, then keep fpvs and spec them up.
They will no doubt sell a lot of GTs now it's leaving...and then a lot a
Of XR8s due to the price.

My head is spinning a tad thinking of a base model XR8 with that awesome SC 5.0 in it(if that's the plans)

Default Re: Ford to close FPV?

I am not sure that any of that will worry current owners to be honest. An XR8 will always only be an XR8. The only thing we look towards is a last one off special if it is something more than sticker pack, if it is sticker pack then bleh not interested in the slightest. If something truly special then interested, but FPV never did anything really special full package wise thus it is a no brainer that Ford are not going to do anything special like a W427 or the latest GTS with all its smarts and diff/box coolers etc. They have never been interested in doing a halo model or a loss leader of any sort, thus why they have always sold a trickle while HSV wiped the sales floor with them time and time again. Never any investment in brand cachet etc.

Agreed, if money is tight best we can hope for is recycled features (r-spec) with a new sticker pack.

I'm surprised you are they only one who has suggested this so far. I was thinking this right up until your post.

I do wonder if it is something they would consider.....

And WHAT exactly have we been told???
The FPV GT will finish next year, but zero details on what models will be on offer until the end date, but “by the way” you can order a 2014 GT for $20~25k more than what they were struggling to sell the 2013 model for. Oh, and this will be a “limited edition,” limited to the number of people we can con out of $90k.
There WILL be an XR8, “because that’s what the public asked for” bahahahahaha. (Just like we asked for 10 years for the return of the GTHO…) But we’re not going to tell you what the XR8 will be, in fact we won’t even confirm that it will actually BE a V8 (unless we find some more cheap engines sitting in a warehouse.) Chances are the XR8 will just be a poverty pack XT with God knows what under the bonnet, but at GS/GT prices.

The wording put to me (in an email) by my Ford dealer after he exited the Ford dealer presentation (and he is a generally a stand up guy) was that the GT WILL be the LAST chance to buy a super-charged engine. SO interpret that how you will.

Oh, great so after fleecing people once for the "Last GT," they can reintroduce it and then fleece people again. They can call it the Nelly Melba special.

I'd be really surprised if ford spent the money needed to r&d the na 5.0 At this stage of falcons life, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

But then, neither does killing of the cash cow that is gt.

I agree, but maybe it'll be something like a crate mustang 5.0. Get us ready for the mustang.(doubt it)
It also has to wind down somewhere.

Oops, definitely missed the earlier post.

Personally dont think the turbo six fits in with the Sprint hertiage. But then again it won't even happen as much as some of use would like it to.

fpv have the basics to do a decent last one off.
gtp seats = great
six piston brembos= great
sc engine=great
staggered wheels set up=great

with what few new improvements on the shape with the new model.=great

bloody, out source some decent coil overs. dump that puppy on its guts and put an intercooler in it. ( both of these two things are widely available and even tested)
dont need them to move the earth .whats it matter to them, the consumer wears the costs anyway.
and off course tickle the tune. we all no what the sc engine makes with a tickle up.

you cant tell me that would,nt compete with the new gts. and be 10k less. more than likely quicker

The last GT will be an FG2, it wont be a new model. FPV will be wound up before the FH arrives. You have to also think about warranty. The reason Ford didn't do the ball tearing intercooled GT (Code name Tempest) a year or so ago was because the firewall needed to be strengthened and re crash tested. Millions of dollars. They wont do it now to sell 200 - 300 cars. Putting any extra power through the car means means offering it with a warranty. Again just not going to happen. We may get higher sticker numbers and maybe a slight tune but it will basically be the 335 we have now.

Cheapest new GT on Carsales today is $62,990 which is auto. Cheapest new manual GT today is $68,500.
Interesting to see if this changes over the coming days-weeks!

Perhaps the special deals have ended, but i know for fact that a brand new GT to order could be had for cheaper than the cheapest one you just listed...

Interesting to see if prices stay a little more solid now

If you pay a premium for an FPV today, you are mad. They just finished telling us that they will still build them in 2014 and have limited editions as well. Buy one today for early 64-66 and you're doing ok. Pay much more for one and you're no different to all the Cobra muppets out there.
