I agree in a way, the regular GT already has a lot of room for improvement when it comes to handling. Did you see Top Gear Australia's beat up review on the 335 GT? That's right, noone watched because nobody cared what they said.

i didn't realise 2 letters on a boot would actually change history, or alter peoples perception of history

Im just glad this thread as some good civil discussion, and not a FPV bag out fest.

Lots of interesting views in both directions,

At a rough guess, "GT 351" is the most common suggestion, how ever, i think after the Boss 260, 290, 302, 335 etc...it might be a bit of a farce.

And as we know, what the sticker says isn't the truth, thanks to the Miami.

fg falcon/FPV i6T's have been a bit notoriuos for under quoting power figures before the Miami came along. -Better than being under!

GT 351 closest to a "HO" without being a "HO".....

All other car makers keep their model names. The older HOs will always be classics no matter what happens now. Its a modified GT it makes sense.
Yeah, it's stupid to think that reviving the HO moniker would be anything but good. It's like some think it won't be as fast or something as the original.

Was HO "High-Output" or "Handling-Option"? Either way, there are plenty of things that can be done to upgrade the GT, and plenty of options for some kind of track special.

Increase the power of the brakes, turn up the boost, and tune the suspension to keep it planted. And for goodness sake, add some magnetic ride control, for tune adjustment.

fastest 4 door in the world? thats just creating a category that limited the competition. fast cars back then didn't have 4 doors. the more criteria you add, the more you limit the competition.

i don't think anyone is saying just resurrect HO on any old sticker pack evolution of the current GT. everyone wants to see those 2 letters on a decent performance car, and the car in question is a modified GT. wider tyres, modified suspension and possible engine tune/upgrade etc. given the current poor economic climate and poor sales of the FPV cars, what better couple of letters to lift the sales and create a new lust amongst the baby boomers (and cashed up bogans).
Now were catching on...

Heres where the problem lies.
The original HO's were built especially for series production racing, as the old saying goes 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday'.
For a current version of the HO to fit the bill it would need to be a limited build with its criterior capable of holding its own in a modern version of series production racing.
It just so happens that every year there is a race weekend held on the hallowed ground that is where the HO legend began...Bathurst.
If Ford were to release another HO it would need to be able to hold its own against the WRX's and EVO's etc. etc. around Bathurst, and capable of being driven home afterwards
Anything less would not live upto the Legend that most Ford fans hang their hat on, the P3HO.

Question is, what would it take to make a V8 Falcon GTHO finish first in a 'production car' race under current regs...
I believe it would become to expensive to ever see realisation...W427...

Atleast thats what they'll tell ya.

i believe it was simply 'homologated option' or something along those lines. for it to be able to compete at bathurst it had to be produced in certain numbers from factory.

actually thats not exactly what i meant. at the time, it wasn't the fastest car in the world, so we added in the no. of doors to the criteria, and then it was top of the class.

Yeah, i got that bit.

I've said it myself, but got flamed down by the enthusiasts.

Everyone else was racing 2 doors by then.

Ford are running out of time. Either they put out a modern GT-HO within the next 3-4 years based on the Falcon or it is going to be consigned to history forever.

They wouldn't DARE but GT-HO on a Taurus.....................would they?

No Badges other than - FPV on the boot and grilles and Supercharged on the sides . A bit like Merc do with Kompressor. I would not offer a stripe pack either.

Just for the record, GT-H was registered because of the possibility of a limited number of vehicles being made available for rental by Hertz. Whilst still possible, this has not, as yet, eventuated.

How about GT-T? The T for Tuned or Track also a small throwback to the T-series.

No it wasn't.

The GT-H was going to be the intercooled version to sit on top of the range. Was put on hold as far as i'm aware.

Also like the first ever FPV concept revealed at last year’s Melbourne Motor Show – but not the production-ready GT Black limited-edition released a month later in August - the Panther is also expected to feature firmer ‘R-spec’ track-tuned suspension and a performance brake package, making it the most focussed GT ever offered to the public.

FPV’s Mustang-inspired GT will look as fast as it accelerates (to 100km/h in less than five seconds, if recent reports prove correct), with an all-black paint scheme featuring red decals and highlights like the Mustang Boss 302 and a more aggressive front bumper design worn by last year’s limited-edition GT Black.

FPV included a strategically lit teaser image of the new limited-edition in its media launch invite, in which a red grille surround and wing mirror caps can be clearly seen.

The more aggressive front bumper design doesn’t feature the larger brake cooling ducts seen on the Black concept, however, and it remains to be seen whether the limited-edition features the Mustang Boss 302’s black-painted Brembo brake callipers and bold red side decals, red wheels and red roof.

While just 125 examples of the GT Black were built – priced $3000 higher than the standard GT at $74,290 plus on-road costs – it’s believed about 185 versions of the GT ‘Panther’ will be made available.

The good news doesn’t stop there for FPV fans, however. Motoring understands the Panther will be a precursor for another, hotter limited-edition, this time dubbed ‘Tempest’ and motivated by a more powerful 375kW intercooled version of FPV’s locally developed ‘Miami’-spec supercharged 5.0-litre Boss V8.

Like Panther, Tempest is expected to ride on firmer R-spec suspension and 275-section rear tyres, which will also help make it the quickest production FPV ever.

Sounds like the Panther is more of a stop-gap...

Doesn't make a great deal of sense

"hey, here is the GT-XX edition, same power, but with things painted red and wider tires, and 2 months later you can have the same thing, but with more power..."

Don't get me wrong, this is great news, im just a little confused lol.

Makes sense to me.

Limited editions sell and for top dollar.

So fpv spend a few grand per car on some new stickers bigger rims etc and sell them at a premium rather than discounting the carp out of them like they are now with regular gt.

Ford and fpv need to sell more cars, and if that means using the gtho name, so be it! From the above post, it should be for the tempest...

Otherwise another option is to simply call it the "beast"

Realistically if it had better suspension, wider tyres and 375kw what else does it need to justify the GT-HO name tag?

Fastest four door is never going to be a likely option. So what else?
