to me that doesn't fit the statement they made about 'eliminating the packaging issues'. surely they didn't just mean removing the spare??!! |

The only way that Ford can free up the spare wheel well is to reduce the size of the LPG cylinder(s). This would compromise full-to-empty range. A 90L (usable) tank in an LPI Falcon would give a range of approximately 700km assuming average consumption of 13L/100km.
Remember that with LPI, you cannot run the tank empty. You need to have 3-5L of LPG remaining in the tank to satisfy the fuel pump.

In Europe, cars fitted with LPG from the factory or by factory-approved installers come with an electric pump that plugs into a car's power outlet and a can of tyre sealant. There's generally no need to have a spare unless you're going bush.

It needs a spare, esp. for highway driving. Have you ever seen the result of a blowout at high-speed? No amount of goob is gonna fix a shredded tyre.
If something like that happened, what do you do if you're in the middle of the sticks?

Space savers arent rated for high speed, so i guess in that respect the can of goop is no worse there.

Let's face it. The majority of car owners wouldn't have the slightest about how to change a tyre.

I was forced to change all four tyres on my first car by my father. I wasn't allowed to leave my street in the car until I could do them all. I won't buy a car without a spare. I don't even like runflats.

Nothing wrong with roadside assist.
It's not like a punctured or flat tyre is a daily occurrence.

in the engine bay, a lot of work was done to make the plumbing a lot neater. I doubt that anything much has happened with fuel tanks and spare tyre well, there's a real problem with finding room and I doubt FoA have bent the laws of physics.. |

I would have though the Holden motor would require less work for a factory lpg option. It already has direct fuel injection.
Modern diesel engines will fire up straight away theres no wait. He's a thought why not use a small 'surge' tank under the bonnet, when you turn the key an electric high pressure pump fires up to provide Llpg until the main system has a chance to purge? |

LPI is not direct injection so why would the Holden motor require less work?

I have had a look under the bonnet of a developmental FG EcoLPI and I must say that if you don't know what you're looking for, you'll have trouble seeing the LPG gear!

Still hoping for the mid-year release for this as well. Will be interesting to see the vehicle in the metal though ... and get some real-world figures from it ... and reviews as well.

A Question:
What is the octane rating of GAS in Australia? Is there a particular standard for that fuel? What is the quality/consistency level of GAS fuel in Australia? A while back I used to fill up with 95 octane with added ethanol petrol from one of the local Taxi United petrol stations … after seeing what it did to my fuel filter my mechanic said to never go to these petrol stations again … I never did and never had an issue since … I wonder if GAS will be good from these stations? Thanks |
