I've recently driven a Falcon EcoBoost, and while my expectations were sky high after reading this report, I can't help but be impressed how a 2.0-litre four cylinder could power such a large car so effectively. On first impressions, it's quiet, refined and powerful. It feels quicker than my BF 4.0-litre, although my car has the old 4-speed auto.

The Falcon EcoBoost is a revelation. I defy anyone to drive one and not be impressed.

You will hear this tale again and again from people that actually drive them.

Latest N.Z. Autocar has a Kiwi test on the Ecoboost and a normal XR6 4.0.
"Spookily" (their words not mine) the acceleration times were absolutly identical 6.9 something seconds

Also noticed the 80-120 overtake times were 4.6, almost identical too.

Ecoboost is available only in XT trim in N.Z. Ecoboost weight was a whopping 104 kg's lighter than IL6 XR6.

Ford N.Z. need to pull finger and bring the other ecoboost models over here pronto too. They say if there's demand they'll bring them in...but hello if you put them in front of people and get them behind the wheel they'll almost sell themselves and they're getting rave reviews in the Motor and Wheels mag's which people buy In N.Z. and then go, where are these cars ?

Kiwis are paying through the nose for the falcon xt more than what we do ...
Even when you take exchange rate into account.

Is there an internet link for this review or is it just a magazine version only?

Thanks

Great write up! 'tho it does beg some questions, 2l + 4 cyl + turbo from Japan or Europe = serious performance, how long before the programmers rewrite the chips and get serious KW's from the engine ?

From a taxi fleet perspective will we see LPI as an option ?

Taxi fleets love the I6, where else can you run up 500K with just service intervals between, it will be interesting to see how reliable the Ecoboost engine will be.

This is a great article. I do wonder how many KWs can be gained by a free flowing turbo back exhaust. They have managed a 50kw gain with the V6 ecoboosted F-Series Trucks in the US.

Weaker gearbox might be the limiting factor (like the original BA XR6T).

Anyone know how much torque the new ecoboost version of the tranny can handle?

Could be fun

Rome wasn't built in a day! its a new model in a diminishing segment. it was never going to have an immediate impact.

good job.
