On topic the BA GT is a $23-28k car depending on options if your after a decent one.

Tell ya what, coming home from work on the highway, seen a Venom red SIII XR8, lowered full factory kit. Honestly these cars still look stunning to date in my eyes. Gave him the thumbs up and he gave it a boot full, sounded awesome and looked great. They still make my neck snap when i see one.

The car you define as decent is well above that standard. There are a bunch of BA GTs on carsales.com.au and for what they are seem outstanding value.

You want a car as you describe then be prepared to pay a little more.

i was looking for months for an XR8 6sp before i bought the BA GT
best price i found was $8500 for a 230km 6sp in black on ebay but it sold before i could see it
next was a shockwave (was resprayed) with 6sp and 180km for $10500(sold for $9000) and a yellow 6sp with 180km for $12880 (now $10880) at penrith
and that was scraping the barrel for cheapies with a 6sp
you could get an auto (4sp) for less but its auto so why bother

i got my GT for a little more than an XR8 but in a lot better condition than all the XR8's i looked at

I recently Yella Terra S/C my BFGTP and I couldn't be happier. Best of both worlds in my opinion, a great looking late model GT with the power to match.
The torque is sensational runs modest boost at 7.5 psi and pulls like a train.
Don't under estimate BA/BF GT's they have been around long enough now that a fair share would be modified and performing accordingly.

Buying a well maintained modified example is a great way to save some bucks too. I love my AU's, but i'd be more than happy in a BA GT at their current prices should I be in the market.

He Sold it.. it might be for sale somewhere around the $16k mark, who knows.

At the risk of throwing fuel onto the fire I'd like to clarify some of my earlier points.

1 - I agree that the BA GT is the better looking B series. Plain but tough, understated but plenty of presence. I love 'em and would never say no to a Phantom one with no stripes, manual and sunroof. Awesome cars.

2 - BUT, irrespective of whether you own/have owned/thrash/have thrashed one, you cannot deny by any means that the BOSS engines (not just the GT ones) are a significant step forward in technology from what they replaced. This in turn brings with it problems that were found (and still are) i.e. tensioners, oil pump gears, diff bushes etc which when compared to 'simpler' SOHC Windsors cost significantly more to repair or replace. Hence my comment about a $16k GT potentially costing an owner a lot more, especially evident if no service history (or not a very good one) or a careless previous owner. Windsors and Clevos do have their problems yes (every engine does) BUT they do on average cost a lot less to fix. Simply because there's less work.

3 - Having owned both I still maintain that Windsors use a lot less fuel and sound better doing it - personal preference yes but no BOSS i have ever heard has sounded better than a Windsor or Clevo. Anyway neither here nor there and not related to the topic at hand.

4 - BOSS engines are a good platform to work with when modifying yes, but you cannot deny that the maintenance and modifcation costs are more than previous models, again because of various factors but probably the biggest being that when it arrived the BOSS was a 'new' engine whereas the Windsor has been around in various forms for decades. Things have changed now in the last 10 years the BOSS has been around, they're now very well supported in the aftermarket but this wasn't always the case hence dollar for dollar in terms of output the BOSS was not always the best choice for everybody.

But hey as above, if anybody has a Phantom BA GT, manual, sunroof with tensioners and oil pump done and is looking to sell - I'm listening. Until then I'll keep looking at AU XR8's

My Boss can drop into the 10ltrs per hundred range when on a gentle cruise. My old au 3 xr8 wouldn't come close to that. But I will admit the Windsor sounded awesome doing it.

unless you stuffed Clevo style heads on it

That's it, the stroker 250 is pretty much it, keeping reliability in mind.
The boss has a much higher ceiling for mods, but having to pay for four cams instead of one. Makes a big difference to the bill...
I'd like a b series gt, they look tough, and realistically they're just a big goofy v8 with a bit of grunt.
Doesn't matter what you buy these days there will always be something on the road that's quicker.
