Why the big drop in value though compared to the rest of the market

Sounds funny but if you're looking to buy aussie cars at a realistic price facebook marketplace is probably the best. sure there are some troll asking prices but most want to actually sell their cars

People can ask what ever they want for their cars, they dont need anyones permission to list it, at any price.
All this sounds like is some folks missed out on grabbing some cash on a nice car they had.

I had a customer wanting to trade in a VF LSA Clubsport this week with only 4500kms on it.
As we do in the car trade, we called around to a number of wholesalers to get their thoughts. The main wholesaler in whom I'd approach for such a car didn't want to know about it, citing a huge amount of money they have burned with HSVs and other performance cars of late. The peak is past, it seems

Could be the economic conditions at the moment having a say as well, the fuel prices didn't put a dent in the performance car market but the toys are going in fire sales with the inflation and interest rate rises which seemed to stop it in it's tracks.
There's a bright pink VN V6 going in Bendigo at the moment and the owner is asking $11.5K. I'd be half tempted at $3K |

I had it saved as i was half keen. They (car yard) purchased it, went over there. IIRC it sold for near on the same money that it was advertised here, after it was advertised for 10-15k more. I think it was just before the lurgy hit. I mean if people have been able to make some coin by selling cars thats fine (sometimes thought about it myself, but couldnt) but it was kinda good to see that happen to a car yard

My Nephew has been on the hunt for a tidy BA to FG XR6 ute for work and camping.
Found a nice white BF with stripes on marketplace but gave up after 3 weeks of trying to arrange a viewing and being continually held off with BS excuses. Probably just some dreamer who wants affirmation that its actually worth reasonable coin but too scared to let it go when it comes time. Very hard to find any decent BA/F/FG of any kind in SA now, reckon id still get $6k for mine. |

Been watching FG and FGX turbos with over 125,000km come down drastically. Cars that were selling for 30-35k 6 months ago are now advertised for 20-25k. Nice to see the market stabilise.
Unfortunately for me, Mustang prices have continued to go up in the last 6 months, cars that were 60-65k are now 70-80k

Of the ones that sold, you can't assume they sold for the asking price of $30-35K...that's just the advertised price.

I know someone who recently paid $37,000 for a 2009 G6ET but it had 50,000km on it. Reason being is I asked if $37500 was unrealistic for mine and he sent me a private message saying what he just paid for his and he was looking for 6 months for an unmodified one with full service history.

Yep the interest rates are beginning to bite.
If you remember the thread, my pick for a covid buy with about 20K was as many XG to XH Panelvans as I could get my hands on. The fundamentals were sound: travel within the country was only option, half of young Australia bought a malibu surfboard... They were going for 7s to 15s for best/dreamers - a quick scan last night saw many rough to honest ones in the 3s and best in the 7s. So I guess I blew up that hedge fund. As for the fundamental certainty: the young all got hocked to buy a $70,000 VW Transporter on ridiculously low interest rates instead, who could have known? Just noticed BA-BF Fairlanes are back to reasonable pricing, most sub 12K, unicorn examples and low km LTDs still asking 20+. The best BF XR6 turbos asking around 30s now. The E series scan reveals the odd bargain, great original sub 5K cars; V8 Fairmont wagons ranging between 7s and low/mid teen asks. Then there's the story of an F6 Typhoon owned by a family workmate about half a decade ago... a bit run down, wanted 15 for it. In Covid the best ones were 60+K asks... these seem still up there in their asks. So it's beginning, I'll let Mr Churchill end the post: "The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays is coming to its close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences."

Ideally I'd rather the XR6 Turbo because its less complicated under the bonnet, but its not worth a $10K difference. I'm concerned about EL XR6 values, seen people trying to offload them for the $20K-$30K mark, you've got to be joking. |

I agree with some cooling, but these are some current results posted onto FB by muscle car stables. 105K for a 335 GT (albeit very low KMS). The others i wouldn't call bargains either! Thoughts?

Beginning to notice some drops in the covid-tax asks on common garden variety Aussie stuff here in WA - some slight concessions, some are big % drops.

Six pot Fairlanes seem reasonable value. Although some sellers havent got the memo yet.
