The engine is the spritual heart of any racing derived kit car and for something as iconic as a GT40 it is hereacy to power it by anything other than a Ford . The reason we have a kit car industry is because of legendary cars like the GT40 and AC Cobra , where either their extreme rarity and or price precludes mere mortals like us ever affording the real thing . NOTHING like a repro Homogenised Generic Hot Rod . Powering a GT40 kit car with a Chev is akin to doing a ground up resto on an XY to look like a HO and powering it with a Lexus engine or an XU1 replica powered by a 300 ZX engine . I suspect if I have to explain this it is probably a lost cause . Some peopole understand and get it some never ever will .

If he wanted an exact replica, I'm sure he would have used a Ford engine, but I don't think that's what he was going for. I think people get a bit too uptight about what engine goes into a car. It's the persons personal car, and money they are spending. They have every right to do what they want. Specially with a GT40, were balance is important for handling. A light engine makes perfect sense, and smart considering the aftermarket support for such an engine.

Doesn't look to me like a slapped together car, so the build would have been a very thought out process and well engineered. Any person with a real passion for cars wouldn't care what motor is in it. They appreciate the car for what it is and how well it is built.

Some people like exact replicas, some people like to build a better car. Some get it, some never will.

As has been stated. Its personal preference. Its their money they can do what they like. Everybody has different tastes and thats what makes the world interesting. Whilst I appreciate the engineering, a chev in a Ford, kit car or not makes me vomit in my mouth. But hey, I'm not even a fan of clevelands in mid 60's Fords! Just dont look right. Each to their own.

vomit in my mouth to, he could have put any ford engine in it there is a huge choice including alloy engines, just makes me wonder why bother lifting the engine cover for people to admire it when most people (ford fans) are going to be surprised negatively, if it was my car i would like everyone to admire the car positively and if it had a ford engine in it, job done, nobody would say it should have a chev in it, crikey even drop a turbo 6 in would be better (maybe not)

My sentiments exactly. I like it when people think outside the square. Dad and I built a BMW with a turbocharged Lexus. I am thinking of my next project which may be a turbo 6 in an xb or xc. People like this build cars for themselves, not the nitpickers and critics. I like the engineering nous involved and the lateral thinking.

Well said. Its not his fault that the LSX is a good motor.

I saw an old Kingswood in Strathpine, Brisbane the other day with a carby bolted to the top of the hood. I thought it was a joke, I was laughing so hard at it I nearly crashed. The bloke driving it scowled at me, then planted it and disappeared into a plume of blue fog.
