Pretty certain Vic Gov would have gone through all the legalities before making such a big call. Would not surprise me if they also find a way to bring the SOE in line with the rest of the country i.e. runs in perpetual, no interval extensions.

Whenever a supposedly impartial article mentions the phrase 'Big Pharma' it loses that label.

BTW What's 'Small Pharma' then?

Its just they haven't uploaded the latest document yet. I am sure there is plenty of "fine print" in the Authorised worker list to be worked through. It will turn up before on the DHHS site before the due date.

NSW/VIC

NSW records 623 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate decreases to 0.9539 (from 0.9587) while the actual line remains below the predictive trend line and based on the 3rd order polynomial, that trend line now has a downward curve again.

VIC records 1,337 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.0834 (from 1.0662) while the actual line is now slightly above the predictive trend.

Gee, good result for NSW today with 'just' 623 new cases reported. Sadly, there were 6 deaths.

Those results are from 'only' 76,892 tests. Whilst that number is lower, it may be a reflection of less tests being needed, more so than less tests being processed.

Just typical Sydney weekend slackness, glorious weather and the NRL GF. Road down Botany yesterday and it was party/BBQ-central all along the Cooks River and Sans Souci beachfront. Remains to be seen if we get Victoria's GF spike in 4 days time.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT October 3rd 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

1,905 new cases for Australia and 13 deaths so the CMR is 1.197%.

33 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.620%.

The UK had 29,666 cases yesterday and 44 deaths for a CMR of 1.733%.

47,089 new cases in the USA yesterday and 690 deaths sees CMR at 1.618%.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)

Only Somalia (597)

... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period while Ethiopia drops below.

Yes, low test rates - and if the social media chatter is any gauge, people whining about power outages spoiling their Grand Final parties…

It seems like Australia was onto this new treatment medicine very quickly. It seems like it was only in the media last week?

Greg Hunt says new treatment sotrovimab is being used in Australia
The Federal Health Minister says the new medication sotrovimab which has been used on those infected with COVID-19 is being used in Victoria, ACT and New South Wales.

Mr Hunt said he spoke to former Deputy Chief Medical Officer Nick Coatsworth about the use of the treatment.

"His message was that it's saving lives already, it's making a difference to the health of patients and they are using it in the ACT," he said.

On whether it was being used in regional hospitals, Mr Hunt said the federal government made it available to the states and they decided where it was allocated.

Ooops, got my medications mixed up:

Australia negotiating for order of anti-viral pill Mulnupiravir
The Federal Health Minister says Australia is in the final stages of pre-ordering an anti-viral pill that slashes the risk of hospitalisation from COVID-19.

Greg Hunt says the government is negotiating with pharmaceutical giant Merck for supplies of its pill called Mulnupiravir.

The drug is yet to be approved for use in the United States, but early trials have shown positive results.

Mr Hunt says he's encouraged Merck to also apply for approval from Australia's drug regulator.

"Our expection is it would be available it if gets through all of the clinical trials, the registration process and then supply, in the first half of next year and then I would hope we might even be able to ensure it is available in the first quarter of next year," he said.

This is what we need. A proper medicine, not this rubbish "vaccine" that isn't even a vaccine at all, cause it doesn't stop you getting the virus, or stop you from spreading it.

They are both experimental. But one actually does what it's supposed to, while the other doesn't.

vac·cine

a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.

It's not even a vaccine by the very definition.

Lol, still doesnt realise theres a difference between the virus and the disease.

The virus is like a flu, you can still get a mild flu if youve had the yearly flu vaccine, it just doesnt get as bad as it could.
The Covid vaccine doesnt stop you getting the Sars virus, it prevents it becoming the Covid disease which kills so that definition if you read it carefully is exactly what it does.
The causitive agent of the disease is the Virus, the vaccine imports dead virus cells into your body to stimulate your immune system to recognise and act against them before they take hold.

The problem is actually calling it a Covid vaccine because it doesnt work against the disease but rather the disease trigger ie. Sars corona virus.
This is why people on respirators at end of life begging for the vaccine get told its too late as they already have passed that stage.

The new pill i believe fights the disease, to lessen the chance of death.

But you have me on ignore so you'll still be clueless..lol

Am I reading that right?

A vaccine that reduces hospitilisation and death by 80-90% = rubbish medicine that doesn't work.

A pill that reduces hosptilisation and death by 50% in trial stages = exactly what we need.

Interesting conclusion....

If the pill is proven when the study is reviewed and can be used as a prophylactic it will be a step in the right direction, ongoing transmission or R Value is the main issue here, once the vaccine numbers are where they need to be, it will be products like this alongside that will progress the fight.

The pricing is quite steep at around $700.00 for a 5 day course, Pfizer has something using a similar concept currently under development.

You misunderstand what a vaccine is.

It's not even a vaccine by the very definition.
Note the word "disease" in that definition, and not "virus". You can't gain immunity to a virus, only the disease it causes. So of course it doesn't 'stop you from getting the virus', or 'stop you from spreading it'. It's supplementary to your immune system preventing the virus becoming a disease.
People who took the polio vaccine were still able to catch, transmit, and test positive for poliovirus. The vaccine prevented the virus from infecting you with the disease.
In the same way now with this vaccine (by every definition of the word), you can still catch the virus, spread the virus, and test positive for the virus, but it helps prevent the onset of the disease the virus causes. No medication will 'stop you from getting it', that's not how medication works.

The pricing is quite steep at around $700.00 for a 5 day course, Pfizer has something using a similar concept currently under development.
Agree. I was of the belief from the beginning, that we would find an effective treatment sooner rather than later. Vaccine + pill or whatever, it'll be managed just like any common illness.

Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

Slow Sunday for NSW Covid vaccinations. Totals now at 88.5 / 67.5 percent of candidates. With the weather and festivities, have to wonder if there were a number of no-shows.
