So, I may have just added to my collection......................
This is a Victa Corvette 500 InStart, a steel base 19 inch mower fitted with the 150cc Briggs & Stratton engine. During the wetter winter months, having a smaller and lighter mower is desirable. I specifically tracked one of these down, for some reason I just wanted something with key-start. The smaller engine should be fine for winter growth, if not, well I give it a little 'tweak'.

So… My BG75 blower. I still haven’t got it running (can’t rush these things ).
Last try it coughed and almost went but no further for any number of pulls. I didn’t try with ether spray. Is it worth grabbing one of those “overhaul kits” that has a counterfeit carb, filter, plug, fuel hose etc or better to work around the original Zama with an appropriate kit and name brand plug? |

QUESTION re Ride on mowers
I understand the deck is the first thing to die on these machines, due to no cleaning underneath and buildup of wet material etc. So what is the most practical way ro clean under, simple set of car ramps and drive up them, scrape underneath or what other suggestions please. Dont ask why I am seeking this info....

The deck on our John Deere X300 was easy to remove for cleaning and servicing, took less than 5 minutes to drop it and slide it out, same same putting it back on, otherwise we just connected the garden hose to the fitting that is on the deck for this purpose, run hose and blades for a couple of minutes and it's done.

This video gives the impression that you can just replace the whole carb.

so thats what that little pipe is for, on the deck? how effective is connecting a hose to that?
That gets confusing, because both the ones I am working with as soon as ya bum leaves the seat, the motor is killed. Please explain how this all works.

Last week I was thinking about coming on here and praising my Ego equipment after I went full battery electric early this year.
However I started to mow my lawn last weekend and the mower died after 20 metres and said it was overheated. Tried all 3 batteries and also let the mower cool for 30 minutes and it still didn’t work. I guess it couldn’t handle the 15c outside temperature. Good job Ego. My dad bought me a cheap Aldi petrol mower 7 years ago that I treated badly and it never missed a beat. 6 uses of my Ego electric mower and it’s not working. Awesome. I have to say I did enjoy not having to worry about petrol, oil and all that other ICE stuff. Shame it was short lived. |

Pretty standard to have a dead man switch, good idea but can catch you out when your bum bounces off the seat when mowing the rough stuff.

-Plug a running hose to the wash port. -Get back in the seat, revs to max, engage blades for 30 sec or a min -Squeaky clean deck and blades. [edit] I also get the blower onto the top of the machine, the engine bay and top of deck to remove the clippings after each use. This keeps the belts clear of crap.

will be fun doing this considering 1 mower is about 5 years old and Id wager never been cleaned underneath, might take couple of goes to get this clean.
DFB FGXR6 you would have a stroke looking at the condition of this one.

An acquaintance usually has a couple of ride-one in his workshop alongside the cars. From what I’ve seen, gross neglect stops most of them - people expect to start up and go, forever! Maybe sheltered with a couple of sheets of tin, maybe not even that.

Whilst it’s off, you can check blades, remove and sharpen, check the belts, clean up underneath….much easier without the deck. Don’t be ashamed, mowers are a work-horse!

I needed a replacement return spring for my bg 85, my stihl shop could only offer a complete carb for $100+. I went with a $20ebay replacement. It fitted and ran well ootb.

You’re probably right. I’ll try a gasket set and fuel lines (etc) first. Bought a new plug yesterday afternoon ($7 NGK @ Repco) and it then would start readily on ether.
My budget is it’s part number. If I hit $75 excluding fuel and it’s not going reliably as my Shindaiwa trimmer, it’s scrap. |

That paint de-bonding on your masonry corner seems to be getting worse. (Apologies to RokWiz, I cannot correctly name this part.)
Or maybe the increasingly clean mowers are making it look so. |

Incidentally I put on YT last night and there was a new “free lawn mowing” video from that fellow Tim. It was an eye-opener to see how many of his fans commenting, were women. He must be on to a good gig.

I wonder if it’s any cheaper from Stihl!
$40-odd correct primer hold-down for my project blower (mine is shonky). https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/294989509101 |

Got my BG75 reassembled after carb kit, fuel hose, grommets arrived yesterday. Very decent of the chap to throw in a suitable primer bulb retainer as well.
Blower is still misbehaving, doesn’t prime properly and therefore won’t stay running. I suspect a check valve in the carb top is faulty, as it part primes - enough to get fuel into the carb chamber - but under crankcase impulses won’t pump fuel sufficiently. |

My baller property is being redeveloped, with the lawn area cut down, new access to the lawn will be though a pool area. There will not be wide enough access to keep the husky TC138T rider on the property. Ive suggested to the owner that we get a self propelled pushy to do the lawn ongoing. Which brings me to a dilemma, do I offer to buy the ride on from him? Its just over 12 months old with 50hrs, Ive serviced it all myself. Decisions, decisions.......
