Default Re: Depression, Anxiety

As long as ya feeling good about yourself, that's what life is all about really, and I'm quoting from the " Billy book of life" not another's opinion on it!
But all my help comes from within, and on occasions I have had to seek outside help, but its very seldom I do that, once it was about my severe untreated ADHD, I dident even know I had it, I wish now I never knew about it, you may wonder why I said that?...well it's because everytime I failed at some endeavour I put it down to just "that's the way life is" after my diagnosis of ADHD and my refusal to take amphetamine based treatment, well I used my diagnosis to make excuses for all my prior ( I was 60 yrs old at diagnosis) failings, but during the past nearly 9 yrs since I found out, I was tending to blame everything from my past on a diagnosis that did not change me in any way, shape or form!

But I realised very early on in lifIe that people are not all the same, not looks or gender but how we perceived our surroundings and the folk in those surroundings.
But, I also knew that I was the only person who could influence my situation, it was up to me to be happy and satisfied not others!,
They were part of my life and had some influence on the outcome of all my endeavours but I Billy was the Captain of this ship, the rest were my crew, not I theirs.

Life is not easy for anyone, it's a very complicated maze of other individuals thought processes that you have to sort into the proper place and order in your life, I at present am very happy and content with my life so far, I do not blame others for my failures, but I do think about it, it's a fleeting moment only, then I realise who and what I am!.....and I am me!....not anyone else!...

I thought I was going to be ok this year in the lead to Christmas, but the crushing pressure that has me despising anything and everything has me wanting to retreat and hide away.

Well you are not alone. I know a few who get anxious around this time. Just remember, at the end of the day, no one can make you do anything you don't want to.

Take it easy DFB. Next year will be better!

It worries me, DFB, when people talk like this. I just hope your "safe place" is not suicide. I'm hoping that I'm just reading too much into it: that's better than the alternative.

Have you got someone you know you can talk to about how you are feeling right now? Someone who can help you through this difficult time?

Please know that there are people here, and I'm sure elsewhere, that care for you and want to see you come out of the hole you're currently in.

You've reached out here, so that's a great first step. Please reach out to someone who can help you through this, mate.

For what it's worth, I hope everyone can find a place of solace and support where ever they are this time of year.

I tend to sink deep into the belly of my own personal sadness sometimes, but then I try and think of others out there doing a lot tougher than me. I find trying to help others in my community, friends or colleagues, even in the minutest of ways can help them and me achieve a level of self confidence and support in ways that cannot be often described, but gives me a sense of purpose.

To all my fellow human beings here, I support your individual endeavors in being the best you can be and just surviving each day as it comes. We are living in unprecedented times, and no matter our differences, if we can rise above the pettiness, be united and help one another in a time of need, I know we can achieve great things.

Keep fighting the good fight!

You haven't seen him around here because he is banned.

However, I know some were in personal contact with him a while ago. Not sure if anyone remains in personal contact with him. Hence my post.

I got sent this link today on how our "Safety Behaviors Feed Anxiety".

https://www.psychologytoday.com/au/b...s-feed-anxiety

“Safety behavior” is a term for acting protectively when you don’t need to.

Safety behaviors can interfere with acting your values and learning that feared outcomes are unlikely or not as bad as you think.

To change anxiety over the long run, you have to learn to recognize and reduce your safety behaviors (tolerate anxiety in the short term)."

Hi all,

I hope everyone is travelling well.

I heard about this service on the radio the other day and thought it would be worth sharing. I hope that it is of some use to at least one person....

NewAccess – Mental health coaching support

What is NewAccess?
Developed by Beyond Blue, NewAccess is a free and confidential mental health coaching program for anyone feeling stressed or overwhelmed about everyday life issues, such as work, study, relationships, health or loneliness.

If any of these feelings are getting in the way of you living your life, then NewAccess could be right for you.

Available in parts of NSW, QLD and VIC, check out the postcode search to see if there's a service near you.

Eligibility
You may be eligible for NewAccess if you:

* live in an area that delivers the NewAccess program
* you’re the correct age for your region (some regions service 12+, 16+ or 18+).

Unfortunately, you will not able to use the service if you are;

* currently seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist
* dealing with severe/complex presentations.

Sometimes it’s not evident until the initial assessment if NewAccess will meet the needs of the person. If NewAccess is not suitable for you based on your circumstances, symptoms or condition, you will be referred to a GP or another service better suited to your needs.

Why you'll love NewAccess
* It’s free, so no out of pocket costs!
* It’s completely confidential.
* You don’t have to visit a doctor first to get help from NewAccess - just enquire directly
* It’s available via phone or video call
* Face to face may be available - please ask when you enquire
* Progress is measured every week, so you know how you’re tracking.
* The six structured sessions give you practical tools to manage whatever you’re facing

More info available here:
https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/newaccess

Hi everyone,

Thought Id check in.

Not much to report. Things are steady which in my mind is a good thing as long as Im not going backward.

One thing I have learnt is to keep thinking positive thoughts no matter what. It's helping.

It's my birthday today also. The big 45. Not doing anything extravagant. I never do. Its just another year down above ground.

Im not letting the worlds craziness define what I do or who I am. As long as I have my closest friends and trusted family with me, I can continue on.

I hope all is well in FF land with you all. I know I dont say a lot here but at the same time, keeping busy is not a bad thing. As long as it's constructive and it has purpose.

A few days ago my pretty but desperately sad and depressed neighbour ( aged 44 ) was so sad, no sleep, sore neck, period pain etc, etc, well I let her vent at me, but this day I told her that Tom Waits was really a ********, he's not of course, but she likes rap I hate 90% of rap as junk, we argued for 15 mins, just gentle banter, nothing heavy, I looked at her and she said " what " and I said how you feeling now?.....she said good, and put her hand to her mouth in exclamation.

She realised that I had taken her mind and thoughts from one place to another, she said later that "I know you love Tom Waits" and, I understand what you did and why?

She was good all day!

I have always been a moody, sensitive person. However I did not feel the true affects of depression and anxiety till my late 20's, chronic pain and changes within my family really set the ball rolling. I am also now aware of how diabetes impacts mental health.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4863499/

"Depression occurrence is two to three times higher in people with diabetes mellitus, the majority of the cases remaining under-diagnosed."

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...n/faq-20057904

"Though the relationship between diabetes and depression isn't fully understood:

-The rigors of managing diabetes can be stressful and lead to symptoms of depression.

-Diabetes can cause complications and health problems that may worsen symptoms of depression.

-Depression can lead to poor lifestyle decisions, such as unhealthy eating, less exercise, smoking and weight gain — all of which are risk factors for diabetes.

-Depression affects your ability to perform tasks, communicate and think clearly. This can interfere with your ability to successfully manage diabetes."

Like anything in life, there is always a cause and effect.

I never really read the newspaper like I once did, especially the births, deaths and marriage section. For whatever reason today continued on to that section and noticed something that really shocked me.

One of the people who used to be in my circle committed suicide two days ago. He was one year older than me and was always a friendly, outgoing and confident person to be around. He always stood tall and made people feel valued.

I can understand what drives people into this dark place and why suicide feels like a way to stop the hurting. But what gets me upset is knowing he was suffering in silence.

Guys, please, please, please find someone to talk to, you are not alone and we are all here to help one another when in need.

Its crazy that something kept you reading to find information like that that relates to you.

I would very rarely browse the newspaper page of Deaths but on 2 occasions I did both times I saw a name of someone I knew who had passed away... one was a lovely lady, a mum of one of my school friends, the other a mate from high school.
I stopped looking after that.

Helped a relative out that lost everything in the Lismore floods.

Found out yesterday she took my money and everyone along for a ride, scammed a guy selling a car with her sob story, fitted rego plates off her waterlogged falcon and then drove to Victoria !!

Commonwealth bank even gave her $1000 so between her and her ex and all the lies she has told us they seem to have done well out of this Natural Disaster thanks to the government and peoples good nature.

She called me this morning like nothing was wrong or had ever happened ??

Turns out she left all her meds behind as well as her pets and personal belongings that survived and now wants her mum to post the meds and clothes and birds ( LOL ) down to her in victoria.

I had no idea she has issues, but i will not be ever helping her again !

I guess sometimes tough love is the only solution...
