ACT has reached 80% double dose rate for 12+. More announcements tomorrow but they will be under pressure to allow non essential retail to open up.

I get that they want to wait out that two week period for full effectiveness but people are going over the border anyway to spend money in NSW rather than in the ACT which is absurd.

To me, it does not add up how NSW continues to decline, when more and more are getting about each day since the NRL grand final basically.

Testing rates are falling away, that’s got to be part of it. We’re well down on less than a week ago in total tests.

You and me both. No where else in the world has seen case numbers drop so dramatically after opening up.....vaccinated or not. Those Polish Pfizers must have been something special?

We are probably at the stage now where number of cases aren't really that critical. Time to move the key indicators to hospitalisations and deaths.

So, Queensland has released its road map to “Life with Covid”.

The thresholds seem quite high, if the reality of NSW’s situation is any barometer. I have to wonder if they’ll bow to pressure as the end of 2021 creeps closer and targets (especially 90%x2) look less likely.

I read an article today that Japan has bugger all cases seemingly 'overnight'.

Daily cases in the hundreds, near no lockdowns after the huge immunisation push for the Olympics.

Of course, can't find the article now...

You are right. But their vax is only 67% 2 dose.

Their new daily case 7 day avg was 23,000 on 7th Aug. On 16th Oct it was 550.

Why do people act so weird about ivermectin?

Victoria’s hitherto steady climb in coronavirus case numbers, seems to be faltering, while NSW looks to be stabilising (even if briefly!).

Re the marked drop in case numbers for Japan, waiting for the conspiracy theories that this was part of the virus’s “engineering” by its creators.

NSW/VIC

NSW records 273 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 0.9370 (from 0.9242) while the actual line remains a bit more above the predictive trend line but is heading downward.

VIC records 1,749 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate decreases to 0.998 (from 1.0148) while the actual line moves further below the predictive trend.

Week 14 in Victoria ended today with 49,179 cases to date compared to 18,912 at the same point of the 2020 outbreak and 51,068 for the NSW 2021 outbreak. Weekly case numbers see Victoria now passing NSW and I expect that those numbers will continue to grow for a while, bearing in mind that we are comparing historical data for NSW with current data for Victoria as NSW is about 3.5 weeks ahead.

When having my second Pfizer shot last Friday in a NSW Hub in an old Bunnings building, the lovely nurse administering the shot told me that she was very excited about Moderna developing a joint vaccine shot.

Apparently to be administered as a joint vaccine, acting both against Covid and the predicted Flu strain.

We had a general chat and she agreed it had been a terrible look for Morrison and Paddleshiits to take Pfizer when at the time they were in the age bracket for Astra.

I heard on the ABC/BBC radio this morning numbers being thrown around about efficiency of the different types and that a third shot or "booster" will more than likely be required within 6 months of the 2nd jab!

Based on results from other countries that have opened up and their waves 6 months in.

I am sure one of you would have mentioned AZ was not available when Scotty got his Pfizer shot? He got his in Feb, AZ started in March.

I think there were more terrible looks elsewhere, especially QLD that did have a leader choose when both were available, and a CHO not helping at all.

This will be interesting to watch, and how the Vaccine certificate will take it into account.

I have seen other countries have their certificates lapse if no booster (Israel) and also others where a negative test (Italy - gives you a 48hr pass) with these on top of the vaccine. Italy also gives you a pass for six months after recovering from Covid. I think we will see all of that here in the end.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT October 18th 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

2,110 new cases for Australia and 11 deaths so the CMR is 1.062%.

64 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.554%.

The UK had 48,703 cases yesterday and 45 deaths for a CMR of 1.631%.

66,637 new cases in the USA yesterday and 823 deaths sees CMR at 1.626%.

Other notable points:
Russia passes 8M cases;
Asia passes 78M cases;

Russia (34,325)
... recorded new highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for the 10 day period and none drop below.

Yep. Double vaxxed former secretary of state Colin Powell died of Covid overnight. It doesn't make you invincible being double vaxxed. People are still getting sick and dying, just at a lower rate.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/pol...tions-n1281746

WASHINGTON — Colin Powell, the retired four-star general who became the country's first Black secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, died Monday due to complications from Covid-19, his family said in a statement on Facebook.

Other countries are offering un-vaxxed people the chance to prove they don't have covid, by taking a rapid test before they are given entry. I don't know why we aren't doing this, as a person who can prove they don't have covid is safer than a double vaxxed person who might be a carrier.

This is true.

And the 6 month pass after having Covid will be one to watch, I can already see anti-vaxxer covid parties, catch it and get you 6 month pass!.

Potential invitations......"Bring a plate or someone with Covid!"
