Has anyone used the home test kits, tested positive and had it confirmed or not via a proper test at a testing site?

They were approved for use in SA last night and my Daughter just used one and it gave a strong positive result within minutes.
She's off for a proper test now but wont get the result for a couple of days they're saying due to testing numbers.

I have a home test here that I am to try.

Our local Qld teating centre became so overwhelmed with people today and shut it down. They then advised people to buy home test kits if they felt necessary and if they showed a positive to go for a proper test.

I take that there is obviously a level trust in these tests to be really taken seriously.

There are also 3 different level of sensitivity on offer. 80%, 90% and 95%.

Maybe look up your test kit on the TGA website to determine quality and how seriously you should take it.

Id like to think any positive they give should be accurate and taken seriously.

It is what it is, at some point every person in the country will get it, its not a matter of if but when.
We've been well sheltered here in SA, as Marshall said a few weeks ago we haven't had our pandemic yet but just like is happening in NSW etc. now, it'll rip through the population and hopefully the vaccine will do its job.

I understand that doing the test again increases accuracy. That would just be a probability thing.

But I think the danger with them is a false negative, so wise to get a test

She used the rightsign kit which is deemed high sensitivity so 90% accurate.

She was in denial to begin with and suggested it wasn't accurate but in the end she agreed that the right thing to do is get confirmation one way or the other and we'll deal with it from there.

When they advertise those home test kits they say some fine print at the end regarding their accuracy and that they are only for personal use, ie results are not deemed official.

Or words to that effect.

I assume the second part has more to do with the fact that the person that shows the test results may not have been the same person that actually did the test.

According to them, this Omicron variant is spreading like wildfire and no-one will be able to stop it.
Yet in her latest dribble, Yvette D'Ath has said there's 2147 people in the state with coronovirus (765 in the last 24 hours) but only 151 are the new Omicron strain.
It just doesn't make sense...

The timing is quite deliberate in my personal opinion. The QLD government have already said since we've met our vaccine targets that covid needs to now rip through the community... right in the lead up to christmas. I'm quite sure they'll be pleased that people are visiting their families, it'll ensure a rapid spread over the christmas/new year period. Why else would they keep repeating that there will be no more lockdowns?

Just received notice that our Daughter has tested positive to Covid so we're heading in for testing now.

A housemate of my youngest son tells them late on Xmas Eve that he's had a Covid test.
Results were expected sometime Xmas morning. Turns out he's positive so instead of coming up for Xmas as planned, he had a test and is now isolating for 3 days at least.

The TGA website sets out how accurate and sensitive these tests are supposed to be.

To provide an indication of the performance of COVID-19 rapid antigen self-tests, the table below includes information on the clinical sensitivity of each test. What offers greater immunity? Getting the virus or getting the vaccination?

Is it such a crazy idea that those already vaccinated can volunteer to get the omricon strain in a controlled and regulated environment to then recover from it and perhaps be better off in the future when out and about?

The jury is still out on that one although scientific opinion is starting to lean toward vaccination if only for longevity (and not all that long as we've seen).

So yesterday my Wife, 2 youngest, myself, Mother, Sister and inlaws all went for a test due to either living with or being casual contacts of our Daughter who tested positive on Xmas eve.
Heres the rediculous part, my Wife, 2 youngest and myself live with our Daughter, we were told to isolate until we receive a negative result by the person who took our details at the testing site.
My Mother, Sister and inlaws who were in the car behind us at the same testing site and only casual contacts due to briefly visiting us on Xmas eve were told to isolate for 6 days and get retested on day 6.
Also heard today that SA Health wont be doing follow up calls to notify positive cases or close contacts of their isolation requirements and without that SA Health directive you cant claim pandemic disaster payments as an isolating close contact or caring for a covid positive case.
My Wife works in aged care and cant return for 14 days, my work has me entering aged care facilities, medical facilities and hospitals so i cant work for 14 days either and it looks as though neither of us can access the support payment even though were under the same roof as our Daughter who can receive it as she was contacted and directed to isolate before they changed their policy.

For the record my Wife, 2 youngest, Mother, Sister and Inlaws have all received negative results, the first 3 who were told to isolate until receiving a negative are now free to go out into public places despite living with a Covid positive case, the other 4 need to remain isolated in their homes for another 5 days and retest.
I've not received a result yet.

Bit of an update, so apparently the result notification is sufficient to satisfy the pandemic relief payment so eligible people are ok.
The Wife and I are both on annual leave until next week but working in aged care means shes unable to return for 14 days anyway, I'll have to wait and see as to how my employer views the situation.

Got my result, negative.
