Be interesting when the dedicated LPG Sportwagon comes out. The LPG tank is where the petrol tank used to reside. Which I think is a first for a LPG car made here and it means it can keep the full sized spare.

Holden have the Series 2 Equip wagon at $38990 drive away.
With $9500 extra at no added cost.

3.0 litre SIDI Direct Injection V6
6-speed automatic transmission
Dual-zone climate control
Touch-screen Holden-iQ system~ with Enhanced Bluetooth®'
Rear View Camera
Rear Park Assist
Leather appointed seats
Front fog lamps with chrome accent
18" alloy wheels#

We can only dream of what FORD could have done with the wagon....

Big mistake ford dropping the wagon. Too many rushed decisions by ford, there are still people out there who want a normal wagon not a four wheel drive.

Ok all, what do you think of this? Just did this tonight...Not completly happy with it but its the idea that counts.

Rear end is taken from the Mondeo, then completly remodelled. Wheelbase extended. Everything from the rear doors back is different. Though the rear lights i have nicked from the Falcon ute.

But this is an actual wagon, not a sports hatch. Thats the idea of it.

Thoughts?

Two questions:

1) What is wrong with the mondeo wagon?

2) Where were all the people who want a falcon wagon when Ford actually DID make a V8/manual/XR/Ghia wagon because they sure were not at Ford dealers buying them..........

1) too small, fwd

2) they were probably buying land cruisers. SUV were the rage back then, back before ford made territories. Times have changed efficiency is now more important, but people want their luxury too. Ford is out of step.

umm, someone is out of step and it isn't ford.

1) mondeo has one of the biggest cargo areas for a current wagon, and wagon buyers (or most car buyers) don't care which end the driven wheels are.

2)the 4wd/suv market is currently the biggest growing market. wagon sales have always been low, as most people that buy wagons are families that can't afford new cars anyway. this is why the falcon wagon ended up being a base model only as only fleets were buying them.

Looks good so far, I think if you shortened the rear a bit to bring it into proportion, it would look sportier. I'm not talking alot but just a little.

Also maybe angle the side of the rear light a bit more, make the bottom longer towards the front of the car, similar to the ute. This would give the impression that the wagon is smaller.

Then send it to Ford Au for comment...

Exactly, Ford has to supply cars that sell in reasonable numbers and give a good return.

I'm starting to see a lot more Mondeo wagons as reps cars, sign writing down the sides and what not.
A big part of slow take up is due to unique Aussie ADR wiring causing our cars to the end of the queue,
and lengthy delays in deliveries.

IMO, building Mondeo S/W and hatch locally would be more justified than either Falcon S/W or Focus.
Perhaps Ford Aust. is positioning itself to be seen as an efficient builder of cars in the +$35K zone...

Mondeo hatch, wagon and Ford Edge.

Now that trio would keep the assembly plant humming along nicely.

Yes and for those of you that are not aware, the next Edge is being developed by
Ford Europe for global markets, it's kinda like a CX-7 but a fair bit wider...

All three of those vehicles could be built and sold in reasonable numbers, giving good returns
because development costs are amortized elsewhere in the world and Broadmeadows is better utilized
without having to build $20,990 drive away specials to survive, how long can Holden stand the pain?

I don't like the roof line. i think it looks like it curves down to the C pillar, then goes flat to the rear most D pillar. it might look better if the C pillar (back of rear doors) was a bit higher. (less sporty tho).

I have similar thoughts.

The roof needs to be raised behind the B pillar to keep the roof flat, it droops down a bit and doesn't look right.

Maybe they were at Holden dealers buying the better looking VT et al which wasn't seen as a carryover of a carryover, had more power, better looks, crap irs but considered more modern....

The Mondeo wagon is very good and I'm seeing more and more driven by service techs for office equipment etc...

Well in that case they either did not buy a wagon at all of have been holden drivers for over a decade.

What is this fixation that some people have that all holden buyers would buy fords instead if only there was a [insert fantasy model combination here].

Bottom line:

This thread is full of angst and whimsy about a vehicle that will never be made. It is interesting to note that most if not everyone in this thread have a lot of things in common:

1) They do not drive an old falcon wagon.
2) They do not drive a new or old holden wagon.
3) They have NEVER bought a new wagon of any type.

I started this thread as a hypothetical "what if" deal, not to complain about no FG wagon. I thought I made that clear in the OP...

No but other people do. The reason that Corolla is still available is that people actually buy them, LOTS of them, as opposed to just fantasize about them on an internet forum.

If and when people stop buying Corollas Toyota will make something else that the market actually wants to buy.

Shame there's no FG Wagon similar in spec to the sedan. If it existed I would like:

- IRS
- XT and XR6 models
- same load carrying area as AU. Mondeo is not big enough, I need to fit two large dogs
- sports suspension
- stereo with great sound, harddrive, DAB, USB, SD Card and IPod connectivity

If an FG Wagon existed with the spec above I'd buy it. I still have my VY Wagon I intend to keep as there's no worthy replacement. The current Holden wagon is not big enough and I'm not into SUVs. I'll probably buy another car and keep the VY wagon.

Nice try TheInterceptor,
Just a few htoughts, think about what changes Ford made to the previous Falcon S/W over the sedan:
1) Wheelbase was longer by around 100 mm
2) Roof line, you'll notice BA-BF has a much flatter line

If you were to movie the back wheel rearwards a touch, I think the change would be surprisingly good.

Every second week someone brings up a thread about a FG wagon. The simple fact is, Ford is a struggling company. The wagon wasn't a profitable concept in the last few models. There is no reason to spend the money designing, engineering and producing a product if nobody is going to buy it.

I agree but but this thread is not about that discussion or insisting that one be made,
it's a "what if" design scenario of how an FG Station wagon would have looked...

because the windowsill bodyline kicks upwards so much as it travels back to the rear, the wagon quarter windows would have to be wedge shaped, like on the commodore's.
