Polyal..How to save the Falcon ? manufacturing need to start talking to marketing,
Marketing need to advertise, heavily, the advantages of the Falcon over Holden and similar priced cars. Then, revamp the dealers and service departments so they are customer focused. Non-performing/participating dealers get the boot.
But, that should have happened years ago......

AFF has over 50000 members and you'd be lucky if 1% of them had bought a new falcon recently, and yet everyone thinks they are the 'customer' that ford should be listening to!!

Comments like this to nothing for the thread, got anything constructive to add?

late edit: also I hope your not implying that creditability through this forum can be brought? That would be a sad state of affairs.

I know its been said before but I really think the problem is marketing, very rarely do you see any kind of advertising at all, at least in Adelaide. When I take my holden mates for a drive in the G6E they are blown away at the quality difference, yet they had zero knowledge about the car, I actually managed to turn one of them in a new Territory buyer..
On a personal level I rekon the FG's are damn good cars, enough so that Ive bought 2 in the last 2 years. In fact my 2 brothers have also bought new falcon XR6 and tezza titaiums and my sister just bought a new focus titanium...all in the last 2 years.
Im doing my part

So what exactly would all of these Falcon diesel buyers be getting that the EcoLPI doesn't offer? Apart from a dirtier, less economical, worse performing engine and other typical diesel shortfalls?

Its what the buyers want and will pay for. That's all Ford needs to care about.

Diesel means efficient, EcoLPI means..... well Ford has to tell the market.

Diesel is easy, people understand it and it means Ford doesnt have to educate the market.

dirty yeah if you use a truck stop.
twice the economy of gas.
porformance well slow out of the gate, but in gear acceleration very much dust the petrol/gas equivelent.

I don't think poeple care about Co2 emmisons per Km...

All they care about is MPG...

Let's qualify that,
Territory RWD
TDCI 217
I-6 Petrol 249

XT Falcon:
I-6 Petrol 236
EcoLPI 199
Ecoboost 192

Territory to Falcon has a drop of 13g/km so it's highly likely that diesel would achieve a similar drop for around 204 in Falcon...

Oh, oh actually 2009 Jaguar XF had the same diesel and had a combined of 7.5 l/100 km or around 199g/100km
Remembering that the Jag is still around 100 Kg heavier than Falcon...

true, although many fleets run to a strict criteria. one of the reasons for releasing a 4cyl and a sub 200g/km co2 rating.

you can't sell to fleets if your car isn't eligible. obviously this doesn't apply to all fleets but its an increasing trend, esp in govt departments.

My comment re: emissions was more in reply to the guy who commented that diesels were dirtier etc. This simply isn't the case. Modern diesels have DPF's (diesel particulate filters) and NOx filters too which greatly reduces their emissions and almost eliminates soot under acceleration. Some of the lower tech diesels like Hilux, Navara etc still blow smoke because they're such old tech.

I've done my bit. Purchased new Falcons in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2010. Next new Falcon will be purchased in 2013.

We know, no offense intended, just adding info...I do that sometimes.

Actually one positive we can all take is that things won't remain the same at Ford, if things have to change then that will happen,
I think Holden is committed to VF regardless of what happens but with Ford, everything is being looked at to improve sales.
So Ford would hardly change things for a worse vehicles set and if anything, head office is bending over backwards
not to axe Falcon...maybe to give us something that works much better for our market in the future...

I dunno, but as a Ford fan I refuse to descend into the mist that Hagen and others want to paint....

yep, they won't want to leave a gap in the range, like they did with lpg. they'll keep falcon going until they know exactly which direction they want to take.

Do some research on what diesel engines pump out into the air other than CO2... they are not cleaner than petrol/LPG engines. I still laugh at all the people I see putting gloves on at the pumps before they fill up.

Line up your diesel car of choice against the EcoLPI Falcon in any gear and see how it goes....

No doubt EcoLPI is a powerhouse but why isn't it selling its head of?

Around 3,500 diesel cars sold last month to 355 LPG cars, I think that is of more relevance than comparing performance,
the fact that only Holden bothers to compete in LPG cars shows just how limited the market really is.
