I always use 98 fuel, but never stick to any specific supplier.
I mostly end up with Shell or Caltex as they are the two that are handy to home that sell it. Cannot state that I've seen any difference in the feel of either the Pursuit or my old AUII XR8 ute after filling with one or the other. I have never heard detonation from either of them, so feel the few extra cents for the 98 is worthwhile. |

Could well be, I know that my XH XR8 hated lower grade fuels, it did the 'dried peas in a milo tin' impersonation very well.
Was a big problem at the time as I did a lot of country driving back then and premium fuels were scarce outside of metro areas in '97-'98. |

Oh this thread's popped up again. Well, update, my Fiesta gets fed 98 RON most of the time, or 95 if there's no 98 around.

Always the best 98 for the AU.. but have shyed away from shell optimax in the last 12months for BP ultima the shell seems to variate to much.. gives her indigestion.. (rattle, ping, knock) :1syellow1 and if she is realy good a bottle of pro strenght boost for a treat.. :Up_to_som

I have a story for you guys.I changed the fuel pump on my eb and there was not one spec of gunk, grime or rubbish anywhere inside the fuel tank, on the pump or the little filter. I had been running Premium fuel in it for 2yrs (nothing below 95) mostly 98 though Vortex.
yet on the other hand my friends el when he changed the pump on his the thing was covered in crap. (std fuel) |

There is no noticeable difference for my car, from regular to any 98 octane fuel, whether it was bp ultimate or shell optimax 98... how about u people... do u notice any difference between 91 to 98 octane fuels? or if u notice a difference why would that be?

Was using Optimax 98, now trying Synergy 98, and have been advised to switch to BP Ultimate next fill by people on the WRX forums.

I use Premium (95) all the time in the Falcon and every second or third tank in the Mazda.
I couldn't see any significant difference in 95 to 98.

Sometimes at the drags, but mainly for circuit racing, its safer for the engine.
Even street drive it with AV,I cbf draining the tank before I drive home from the track, who would check anyway.... |

I used to be on Shell Optimax. With a recent switch to BP Ultimate. Such an improvement, and in economy as well.
However, I recently have been going Caltex Vortex 95. And as soon as that goes, in.. DTE instantly reads over 600 every time. Great fuel! I've just put in a tank of Shell 95, to compare the difference. AU6 by the way.

Filled up with BP Ultimate today. All I can say is that the fuel needle hasn't dipped to a noticeable level, even under loads of boost! It is claimed if you use Ulitmate you can get 43kms extra per tank when used for a decent time period.
Some might say big deal, but when 98 is costing $1.40+p/lt and your economy is say 13-14lt/100km you're saving roughly $9-10 (when rounded up to 50kms) 9X52=$468. Not bad for just switching brands. Of course this doesnt take into account fluctuating fuel costs. $468 is better in my pocket than the oil companies. Hell that just over 1/2 of what my next service is estimated to cost me. |

the gasoline rating there sounds like its different. i get 89 octane (the mid grade) gasoline here because my truck runs like crap on 87 octane.

I use ULP & occasional tank of PULP as a treat. Once I get edit etc will be using PULP pending on tune im running. My previous car a 2001 Lancer I always used PULP being a manual exhaust etc I felt it went better (it also became a habit). But with my current car I havent noticed/felt any differance on PULP or seen better fuel economy.

premium for me too.. some people tend to forget that you use less of a higher octane fuel then regular fuel... i get about 50 more km to a tank and the car runs better on it. i would put regular fuel in but feel guilty considering all up its like 3 bucks more to fill up on a better quality fuel. and thats in a 68 litre tank better performance too.

Man this BP Ultimate stuff is great. Put a full tank in on Wednesday and have done 220km+ and haven't even used 1/2 a tank. I'd say 80-100km of that was under heavy boost too!

you cant buy avgas due to the excise being lower. (ignoring the environmental stuff) You can buy leaded race fuel with a CAMS passbook. But I do notice a difference in the Ghia running 98 to 95 |

$1.25 for premium? Where? In Canberra it is not that low that's for sure. You also got to take into account the environment of where you live. In the city you have a lot more traffic/intersections and pay less. In the country you pay more but don't have such things. You might travel more but remember highway economy is far better. Roughly breaks down to be the same with the odd exception.
