How does my comment give you any insight into what I do or don't understand? I think you've completely misunderstood my comment. The comment of yours I quoted earlier said that these cars aren't good value for money. Like it's that way for everyone, not just based around your own sense of value. But what you consider to be value could be completely different to the next person.

The second comment of yours that I've highlighted above just proves my point. People are buying them, not just because they are cheap but because they consider them good value for money. Quite clearly, there's a growing number of people who consider them to be good value for money at the moment, otherwise they wouldn't be buying them. I don't know about you, but I've never bought anything if I didn't think it was good value for money. It may not be the item that was the best. or cheapest, or most expensive, but I considered it the best compromise between what it could do and the price that was being asked for it. Again, value for money varies depending on the circumstances.

I was not making any comment about why they are priced at the level they are now.

Cars these days are disposable items, its just the Jap and later Korean stuff (exception of Kia K2700/K2900/Preggio, they're total POS) which can go the distance.

The Chinese business model could be make something to a price point and then replace it once it flogs out, they've got huge amounts of human capital that's cheap so they can still make money on stuff that costs SFA.
Absolutely, the Euro’s really suffer in our weather conditions. But with the Chinese it is all about dominating our market(very successfully I might add) pricing things accordingly. The things are still cheaply made. But what it does do,is get people into a new vehicle @ a reasonable cost.Toyota etc..are way overpriced.

As I alluded to,they are ‘perceived’ as good value. In fact they are not really, depreciation is a killer.Does that make them good value?Only someone purchasing one can answer that.Sink your money into a Japanese brand,it is better value in the long run.Depreciation, service backup etc…

Who said cars have to be an investment? I don’t care what my couch or fridge is worth when Im done with it.
Top spec Jolion is 10k cheaper than Seltos GT line, what is the cost of borrowing that 10k just to chase some extra resale value at 5 or 7 years mark?

You know how everyone abandonned the micro car segment because there's no money in it? Left the market to Kia and MG with the Picanto/Rio and MG3.

They probably made no money on the WS Fiesta I bought new, but I bought a new LV Focus shortly afterward, the plan was buy a new FPV F6 ute after I was qualified, but I never did unfortunately

Its an entry to a brand for a young kid, the MG3 buyer might be buying an MG ZS SUV when they buy their first place and reproduce because the trusty MG3 did them well.

That micro segment is a loss leader, its like Safeway/Coles with bread and milk, they don't make money on it but they're always on the opposite end of the store from the entrance, so you have to walk through and you notice more profitable items while you're in there and buy other items.

Same with the servo and fuel, you rock up there for the fuel which they might make a few cents/L on, but then the junk food is always tactically placed that they make huge margins on.

I use to own a micro car(KEI car) to be more precise.Purchased a Daihatsu 360X Fellow Max way back in 1972.$1,999.Two cylinder, two stroke.Rare as hens teeth now.

My brother bought a Grate Wall when the Diesel ones came out, not the frog looking petrol rubbish.
Now it had everything on the GW Top class spec, the Holden was the same 4x4 body and a mate had 2 of them new at the same time and I drove both and my brothers as well for a fair bit of km and I liked the GW better than the Holden, the GW was better over all and for the money value ! Only thing I did not like with the GW was taking off turbo lag and that's it.
The Holden had a rubbish manual box setup that you had to change slowly or it cut the engine out for a bit, what a dog ! but mate ranted about the power of the Holden, I could not give a rats about power as it's only a 4x4. And the GW did fine power wise I thought.

But for the quality of the GW down the track was 3rd rate and the depreciation was horrific and warranty worthless from the start.

I have heard that service & warranty backup is terrible, they are just interested. The jury really is still out on these.

Was it the Great Wall V240 that was their first ute in our market? Those ****boxes are down right impossible to get parts for, good luck fixing one of those

Maybe it's changed now but 5-6 years ago forget it, turf the car because you weren't getting **** for those things.

Didn't one of the very early GW utes use an older Mercedes car front cab section.

Might be thinking of Ssangyong who had some dodgy Mercedes partnership thing they tried leverages.

Points awarded to someone throwing an image up in this thread of that absolute turd on wheels.

I think GW V240 was in bed with some Mitsubishi componentry.

Who wouldn't want to have this parked in their driveway?

I don't think they could have made it look any cheaper if they tried.

I mean, doesn't everyone aspire to own a cheaply made, no-name product?

That model was very much a bitsa, the basic body a knock off of an Isuzu, the front is a direct copy of VW Magellan concept with a Mitsubishi petrol engine. I believe the diesels were GWs. This basic car lasted until last year with the steed.’

In fact, I believe that the headlights actually still had VW branding on them.

I think the body is the old RA Rodeo. Interior and dash is the same too.
Chinese truck JAC also use old Isuzu N series cab, chassis and driveline with Chinese made ISF Cummins engine.
Use their old **** and undercut them in the same market.
Yeah it wont happen over night, but watch this space.

GWM has a twin turbo unleaded V6 engine, code '6Z30' as an option in their 'Tank' SUV.

260KW/500NM - chuck that in their knock-off Thailand Special and they've got a unique point of difference against all the big boys.

Can I still call it a knock-off 'Thailand Special' or do we start calling them 'Chinese Special'?

I think they used a really old mercedes engine and gearbox in them. I knew someone who bought one ages ago and tried to tell people he bought a mercedes. What a clown.

One of the biggest piles of excrement to be foisted on the Australian market was the MB110 van. It was built in Sth Korea by Ssangyong in a deal with M/Benz & even had M/Benz badges. It was about the size & proportions of an older HiAce.

Also I seem to remember seeing quite a few Ssangyong Mussos with M/Benz badges fitted.
